I don't think their performance would degrade significantly, frankly. The Intel architecture is good, but Windows has at least in the past been lacking.

Merg! I'm stuck in a bad karma ditch and I can't get up. The moderators probably all read at 0+ and miss my -1 comments. I'm never going to be moderated up in this way. Slash admins, with this system you're just begging for me to register a new account.

Replying to myself, what I was trying to point out about this is that Intel could probably just remove their emulation layer, remap the instruction set, switch a few registers around and not start entirely from scratch in creating a PowerPC compatible chip.

I understand that Intel's processors have actually featured a RISC arcitecture for a long time, but they run a CISC emulation layer on top of it. Some information about RISC vs CISC can be found here, and some info on the CISC emulation in Intel chips here.

Well I personally feel that 90% of what I was taught in school was BS that I'm never going to use for the rest of my life, and heck, I write computer programs. They could've just compressed all the essential bits down to a few years. The only useful things school taught me are:

    - To read and write
    - Basic arithmetics
    - Trig
    - English

Computers taught me so much more. School just seems to be a giant waste of time and tax money in my opinion, at least the systems most commonly implemented.

This is off topic, but have you ever thought about the fact that doors are rendered useless by windows? Breaking into a house with windows is the simplest thing on the planet. The only preventive effect a window has is the noise it makes when it breaks. Heck if I'm a neighbour and I hear glass breaking in the middle of the night, the last thing I'm gonna do is get involved. Doors are mere symbolism. You might as well put up a sign that says "Please don't walk into my house."
