Try Michael Crichton... he exhaustively researches his books, and the science in them stretches a bit beyond what we can do now, but not to the point where it is unbelieveable. Also, this stretches from physics (Timeline) to Biology (Jurassic Park, Next). Highly recommended
Orson Scott Card - The Ender Saga... consider the fact that he wrote this ages ago... then read about everything he came up with based off of quantum entanglement and AI and the stretches he makes with technology... its a really fun read.
You totally miss the point. The reasons to go are exactly the reasons you said not to go. The things we learn from permanent outposts on the moon will enable us to live on aother planets that have potential to be more than a base.
Besides, we need a platform for launching large ships... much cheaper to assemble them on the moon, especially if you can use materials made there rather than stuff that we keep blasting off of the earth.
Sweet. Now us chronically overweight Americans can not only process our shit to get biodiesel, but when we get lipo we can process the fat for additional fuel. I sense a solution to fuel shortage, wastewater processing, and obesity all in one!
I, an accomplished geek myself, never was socially active until college, where I found people that were on my level intelligence-wise and social wise. We have all gotten together and formed our own little club. He doesn't need to be cool or socially accepted. He needs to accept himself and be happy with who he is. He will just start naturally having a social life. People will notice his confidence. You don't have to be popular to be successful by any means. The most successful people I know are not popular at all.
Wow, I just found out that the seller is from Ann Arbor according to eBay. Another University of Michigan student trying to start something up? I wonder if you are in the law school there?
With all the protection for minorities I would think that it is easier to be a minority than a majority. Oh wait, that only applies to race, not to the rest of the topics that actually matter. Minority views are respected, they are not crushed (although these RIAA tactics may do just that), but they do not actually effect laws. That is why it has taken so long to get some action on our part. I wonder, is this politician is a member of the majority or the minority party in the house?
"a kid who grows up playing violent, realistic games could tend to be lsss affronted by violence"
I suppose there is a precedent for this in medieval times when 30 was old and 50 was ancient. Violence happened every day. Hunting for food was a necessity. Was there more brutality? Unquestionably. Do video games provide that same desensitization? NO. I myself am divided in this issue. When swords were the weapon of choice, everyone knew what it was to be cut. Death was something you saw, not something a doctor came and told you about. With bows, and now guns, people have distanced themselves from the pain they inflict. It is not desensitization as it was then. I also enjoy violent video games, I play them daily in fact. However, I would never, ever, do something so atrocious. Would I think about it? Yes. Who doesn't once in a while? The idea of taking someone's life is something terrible. It is simply that young people in America do not have the values or the morals necessary to make choices properly. Something must be done. Until then, stop blaming videogames.
I brought a gaming rig to college and I have to say that while I have had untold hours, days, weeks, and months of gaming, the laptop is by far the better choice. With current technology you can play almost all the games available, and with many modern college campuses going wireless, the ability to download the online notes posted by the prof while studying in the library without waiting for a public computer makes the laptop the best choice for the modern college student.
Well, I have heard about this for some time, but I never manage to be watching sci-fi when they have the ad for this on, so I have no idea when it is. Anyone actually bother to find out so that they can enlighten me?
