    I'm not arguing that. Yes, they were allowed past security with stuff they should not have had.

    My question is this:

    Given that the 9/11 guys had valid tickets and boarding passes, exactly how does barring non-passengers from the gate area prevent the occurrence of a 9/11 type event?

    Those are irrelevant to my question.

    I agree with OP that the reinforced and barred cockpit doors are good for preventing a 9/11 style attack.
    I'm disagreeing with his assertion that allowing only passengers past security does the same.

    I can attest to this. We were at the Orang exhibit at the San Diego Zoo, and everyone there got a lesson on where baby orangutans come from.

    Even some of the Navy guys who were visiting the zoo were blushing.

    Have you ever heard of entities?

    &lt; generates a < less than symbol quite nicely.

    Similarly, &gt; generates a > greater than.

    And if you need an ampersand (&), &amp; does the trick.

    One exception this time around. I held my nose and voted for the major party candidate who wasn't Carly Fiorina, on the theory that that particular race was going to be very close, and I don't believe Carly's reward for running Lucent and (almost) HP into the ground should be the US Senate.

    Sigh. Great, now the pea-nutty people have more ammo for declaring nut-free zones (from which they do not remove themselves, ironically) in schools, camps, clubs, etc etc.

    How is a kid, who is legally required to be at school (and often required to be at a certain group of tables during lunch) supposed to remove himself from that place?

    Also, you make it sound like "oh, he'll sneeze and itch". This is *DROP DEAD* stuff that we're talking about it.
