Yes, I read this, but the article doesn't explain what basis they really have to say that the other natural forces have a reason to be compared to gravity.
Because if they want to unify all four forces (this is generally considered to be a "Good Thing"), then any unified-field theory must come up with an explanation for the relative strengths of the different forces after the symmetry breaks.
Besides, if MS HAD bought Unix, do you REALLY think they'd have let the major competitor to NT out of the bag by selling it to their major competitor in networking? Get real!
I got some of the pix to work. They had blanks in the spaces, so if you right click (Netscape) the pic, and say "View Image", you get a 404 error. Then go and replace all the blanks in the filename with %20's.
"Sledgehammer" is a completely cool name. Don't change it to some marketroids idea like "Athlon Pro". I want to be able to tell people that I've got a Sledgehammer!
That's one of Clarke's Laws (as in Arthur C.), I believe it's the second.
Clarke's Laws (from memory - exact wording may vary):
1. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
2. If a respected scientist says that something is possible, he is very probably right. If he says that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
3. The only way to test the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.
I'd have thought that this law would only apply in the US anyway (naive or what). Also wasn't it mostly to prevent commercial exploitation of children online more than anything? (umm I mean advertising, email gathering etc, not bunging them down t' mine)
COPA is not about privacy. It was "CDA II". COPA is the Children's On-line Protection Act, aimed at bowdlerizing the net. The privacy thing was COPPA (Children's On-line Privacy Protection Act). It's easy to see how the two could be confused.
No no no. That swaps the DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT between SDI and MDI. The question was, you are developing an SDI project and used MFC. Your requirements changed (again), and now your customer wants your project to be MDI. How do you change it?

MSVC6/SP3 does not support exception specifications.
It has applications in vertical markets, such as the military, where weight is paramount.
At one point in time, we had to create a box that weighed 8 pounds, counting the batteries for 72hr operation, AND could take a 3 foot drop operating and 5 foot drop nonoperating. That 175g operating spec that someone mentioned sounds REAL nice!

With my Win98SE and DSL (using EnterNet 300), PGP gives me a BSOD every time.
Any Ideas?

Bzzzt! Thank you for playing, here's your lovely parting gift.
Novell bought USL from AT&T USG. MS never bought the Unix name from AT&T (they licensed Unix for their original version of Xenix).
IIRC, the history goes something like this... AT&T spins off USG/USL from Bell Labs. Novell buys USG from AT&T. SCO Buys Unix from Novell.
I've put time.com in my IE "Restricted Zone" list. I really wish Netscape had something similar (but better!).
Time pops up those annoying advertising Subscribe To Time windows when you leave their site. Don't they know that it makes them look like a pr0n site?
It's a script kiddie
It's not an elite hacker
What an idiot

Two old jokes:
Q: How many software guys does it take to change a burnt-out lightbulb?
A: None -- it's a hardware problem.
Q: How many hardware guys does it take to change a burnt-out lightbulb?
A: None -- we'll just work around it in software.

Is old news. Slashdot posted my submission of the story on June 22.
8) Fnordium
Here's the scoop on the Fnordium(tm) chip...
The '86 Buick Regal Grand National kicked butt on everything except a Porsche Turbo Carrera.
Test results remembered from Car&Driver
0-60 4.9 sec
12.something sec standing quarter
Buick Engineers reported that they regularly trashed Corvettes on the test track, and that's why GM cancelled this beast.
I hope they keep the name "Sledgehammer". Now, THAT is a cool name.
"'GNU' without using an acronym."
The book was "The Fountains of Paradise". He wrote about the building of the first space elevator.

Those cool tires (C button?) that allow it to go up vertical cliffs?
Why would it have anything to do with the National Association of Marlon Brando Look-Alikes?
