You can make up any reason to call any candidate vile and frightening. McCain scares me because he is old, has serious temper issues, and says disrespectful things to women (including his wife). He has totally flipped all his views in the past 5 years to pander to the religious right. "Conservatives" are spending more than Dems and reducing taxes causing us to go in to a deficit that is destroying our economy. "Liberals" allow for social rights and are not trying to push the Bible in to the government. And you are worried about the word liberal? Grow up. It is just a label that morons like Rush or Savage like to place on people to scare slow witted people who are too lazy to actually pay attention to the issues. I guess it works on even the supposedly intelligent people that read Slashdot.
I don't know why everyone is objecting to BMI so much. It is fine for the majority of people...and for the small percentage of the population it isn't correct for, they already know the limitations of BMI. Pretty much everyone I know understand BMI and its caveats. It is like everyone on Slashdot is trying to sound smart by parroting off common knowledge. For the people who are going to get a tough work out from Wii Fit, it is going to be fairly accurate.
Just because people are taking the Wii fit to one extreme doesn't excuse you from taking it to the other. Yeah, it is exercise and this is good. But to say that it is going to give you the same workout a gym can tells me you don't go to gyms. That, and $30 a month is hardly a used car payment.
In other words, it's fine to defend your game. But you are just as guilty as the people who say it isn't a real workout by exaggerating your bias against gyms.
This is not a movie. There are no voice actors that drive sales of video games. No one says, oh, Bob is voice acting in Final Fantasy XXX, I am going to get this one for sure! The creativity comes elsewhere. Sure, great voice acting improves a game, but it doesn't drive sales. The money should go to the programmers, artists, and creative talents. Getting paid 100k to do voice acting seems fine to me. There are plenty of good voice actors out there and if one wants more money, they can simply find another who is reasonable.
You live in a world I don't understand. Guilds are a way to meet new people and make friends. Guilds all have different objectives. Some are for leveling, some are for end game, some are just so you have people to chat with. I don't feel any pressure to level any faster than I want to in a guild. I choose to play the game the way I want it. No one pressures me...if I felt like that, I would join a different guild. All MMOs rely on co-op play and friendship to keep you playing. Not because of peer pressure, but because you want to hang out with the people you like. If you are afraid of peer pressure, just stick to single player games. If that question was asked about any MMO out there, joining a guild would be a valid response for any of them.
Nice reply. I read what he wrote and I can't imagine anyone who didn't play WoW would understand half of what he was trying to say.
But I do understand what he means. Basically, your +5 insightful post really isn't insightful at all. It is just an insult because you -insert whatever reason you hate WoW here-. While any MMO has a grinding element to it, the end game instances are challenging. It requires skill and coordination since each boss is unique and requires different techniques to defeat.
I had a taste of end game raiding but a friend of mine was more serious. I asked him why he enjoyed playing so much and it was because of the challenges that the end game instances provided. So while I understand your comment, I don't think it is accurate. On top of that, you never played it so you have no idea what you are talking about. It just seems you made a comment out of spite.
You really have no idea what you are talking about, do you? Most Americans I know say things much worse than what you wrote and no one is arrested. I know it is popular to bash the US on Slashdot but come on. You are just clueless.
What gives you the right to tell him what he should and shouldn't see? Indiana Jones is something a lot of Slashdotters grew up with and would love to see a new episode. Should they have stopped after the first Indian Jones? I am sure glad they didn't, I enjoyed all three movies.
In other words, get a life and stop telling people how they should live theirs. Your attitude is exactly the problem with many Slashdotters. You are so judgmental and narrow minded.
Actually, WoW is easier to catch up to other players than Eve. Eve pretty much guarantees you will never ever catch up with the older players unless they forget to train or don't use implants.
You don't grind levels, but you grind missions to earn enough money to buy ships (that you have to train before you can fly) and weapons (that you have to train before you can use) etc. etc. The grind to me is worse in Eve because the PvE is so mind numbingly dull.
Pretty much all MMOs (including WoW) have free content upgrades. The expansions that WoW have actually bring a huge amount of content and are worth the price IMO.
It really makes no difference. They are just changing in what area the grind will be. So you aren't doing levels anymore...you are grinding realm pride. Maybe it will be more enjoyable to you to grind in that manner...but since it isn't even implemented, it is hard to praise such a thing. Eve removed the leveling grind to a real-time based system. But you have to grind for money in such a way that is more tedious than WoW. Just depends what you like, but I would hold off singing the praises of something that doesn't exist yet.
That's fine if you are talking in general. But we are talking about Apple which we know would love to increase market share. They aren't like a Porche or some other high end maker that is only targeting the elite. Apple wants their product in every house, every college campus, and every workplace...so I think it is fine to talk about how they can increase their market share. Removing context is just arguing for the sake of trying to sound smart.
If you already hate MMOs, why bother posting. Personally, I thought the Burning Crusade expansion actually improved a lot on the original game experience. Quests were more interesting, there was more to do, and they had some neat ideas.
As far as the other garbage you spew, even if they change significantly (and they actually did past 60), people will just do the math and figure out how things have changed. So they are free to deviate as much as they want and balance in the future if necessary.
When people buy these expansions they are really just paying for additional artwork of the new monsters.
Again, you are just talking out your ass. Dungeons, raiding, mounts, quests, abilities, world pvp, etc all saw large (or at least interesting) changes in the last expansion. Don't talk about something that you didn't experience. And if you did experience it, you weren't really paying attention.
I don't think something that targets a completely different market will make a difference to MMORPGs. Completely separate customer base. I am sure the future will see something that replaces WoW for the top spot...but I am betting it would probably be made by Blizzard. They just polish, refine, perfect, and balance better than any other company I can think of. Plus, they have the funds to make it happen. Who else can do this?
You don't like them but you feel the need to post in a thread about them. I doubt you have really played any since all of them really do have skill-based combat. Just reading the feature list of any game is going to make it sound new and groundbreaking. Just speculating about a genre that you don't play is pretty ridiculous. With the number of players that WoW has, I have a feeling Blizzard knows what they are doing.
Yeah, if you read 10 pages a book and stop you probably won't get it either. The first part of the game starts very slow for casual people to get the hang of playing. Getting to level 6 takes about an hour so you really don't have much of an idea what is going on after playing so little. The higher level you get, the more skills your learn and the more interesting combat becomes. Some classes are more interesting than others and some suit different types of play styles.
I don't think everyone has to like WoW but your analysis after barely playing it is a waste. But you know, all RPGs are going to be about killing, leveling, and doing it again. The people you meet and the combat make it fun (and you aren't qualified to talk about the combat since you haven't even scratched the surface). Essentially, people just modded you up because they dislike WoW, not because you said anything new or insightful. It's like reviewing a movie when you only saw the trailer...just silly. Or, you are a troll...if so, good job.
But is he protecting himself or is he murdering? In this case, we are the aggressor. They aren't defending innocent civilians on our soil. They are fighting a foreign war on foreign soil based on false information. But the troops aren't there by choice, they are ordered by the President and those higher in command. So is it ok to murder someone just because you are commanded to? That is the problem with the military. It is controlled by people with interests that may not be the right thing to do. So does God forgive you if you murder people based on others commands? Or should you stand up and do the right thing? Or maybe just not join the military so you are allowed to make your own decision on what is right or wrong instead of becoming a machine that just accepts order.
It's funny reading Slashdot these days. Everyone wants to have no DRM...because it is punishing your customers. In the lawyer article a few postings down, everyone is talking about how it is ok to pirate games. Do you see why they want DRM? I can't blame game companies for wanting to do something. If they read Slashdot it would seem the general consensus is that pirating is a victimless crime. That would not give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
So, does that make it right not to pay people for their efforts because it isn't defined as property? You guys argue in circles over definitions and you all miss the point.
And Mormons were the same for Romney. Why does it matter?

What comes with Wii Fit is a scale. They have an optional balance board that you can purchase separately (this is what I gathered from other comments)

That doesn't counter any of his points. The death of one old guild in WoW means nothing to the future of the game.

This sounds like something you would want to do if you wanted to addict someone even more to the game. It is interesting, but I think a bad idea.
It really makes no difference. They are just changing in what area the grind will be. So you aren't doing levels anymore...you are grinding realm pride. So much wrong with this post! If you don't care about what other people think of your stuff, then why post defending yourslef?
Then, you don't want people to judge you based on what you buy, but you judge people wearing $49 blue tooth devices. The word hypocrite comes to mind.

Except Spore is meant to be played online even in its single player form so your argument really doesn't apply in that case.

You are depriving him the cost of the game. If enough people think as you, no one would make software anymore.
