Standard procedure for ordering from a lot of European webshops, especially on international orders.

  2. Scratches on Ars Technica's iPod nano Dissection · · Score: 1, Interesting

I'm so sick of people moaning about the scratches.

It's called the "travelled" look. Learn to love it. My iPod sits in my pocket with keys and change and whatever else, and it's scratched to hell. And it looks good.

Battle scars, if you like. My phone is the same.

As long as it doesn't impair function, it's all good. Hence my owning a Clie TH55 - no chance of damaging the screen.

  3. Re:The Beeb on BBC Opens TV Archive to Remixers · · Score: 0

    Wrong.

I've had huge arguments about this :)

If you are not receiving or recording TV programming then you don't need a license. Regardless of whether a tuner is incorporated into the device.

A console + TV doesn't require one, for example.

Of course, getting them to believe you is another matter...

  4. Re:He seems a dangerous driver (serious) on LA to Oregon at Mach 9 · · Score: -1, Flamebait

If anyone flashes me (UK) in this fashion I deliberately make their task of passing as difficult as possible. The flashing is normally accompanied by excessive speed, and tailgating. Normally the driver behind me will make an attempt to undertake on the left when they see a gap that I'm not prepared to move into (since that would put me too close to the car in front on the left of me - doing exactly the same as the guy I'm trying to wind up) - when they do this I simply accelerate into the gap I've maintained in front of me. Don't usually see them again.

I don't speed (I might get 5mph over the limit doing this trick which is perfectly fine), but while I disagree with the limits set here if someone is driving dangerously (guaranteed if they flash me) I'll make sure to wind them up. I won't stay in the lane if it's safe to move over :)

  5. Re:Looking for an LCD myself on Making Use Of Old LCDs? · · Score: 2, Informative

Check out the Lilliput range. They do a fantastic 8" 4:3 LCD (with VGA/RCA/S-Video inputs) which includes a touchscreen. Bit pricey - was 220 for me, but incredibly easy to use. 640x480 native res, interpolates up to 1024x768, built in speaker.
