I hope you remember posting this comment in 15 years time and realize that neither nation won the cold war. It's just going to take the US longer to feel the full effects of it. 15 years from now Russia will have reformed a stable government while the US is only slipping more and more into the debts that killed the USSR.
I so wish that wasn't true. It would be awesome if IPV4 stopped working right now and we all had to go to IPV6. Then finally file transfers would start working well.
It is a stupid idea to not buy Made in China products for the same reason it is stupid for Google NOT to serve China.
Buying Chinese imports has only caused that nation to become more free and capitalistic. Google can only bring MORE information to the Chinese people. There is no way for Google to take away information. Therefore buying Made in China products and Google serving up lots of information can only help the people being oppressed by the government.
Every person badmouthing Google is a hypocrit. Every single one of you support the Chinese government. Your keyboard, your monitor, your desk. That chair, your clothes, your TV, all those toys you bought for your nephew. Every time you buy an item that has a Made in China label is you are supporting the oppression of the people. Google is one upping all of us.
Not only are they providing the Chinese people will a powerful tool for finding most of the worlds information but they are also letting the Chinese people know what is being blocked. Get off your high horse and realize while google is doing this primarily to get a foothold in a huge market, there is also a very real benefit to the people of China.
China is only going to become more free and google wants to be there for it. You lazy hypocrits just want cheap, crappy products that some foreigner who will be making more than you in 20 years.
I'm Sorry your family died in that terrorist attack. We could have easily prevented it if we stripped away this nations civil liberties and freedom. While I feel every individual, painful loss in these trying times and wish they could have been prevented in a reasonable way, I am sure you understand that to take away the freedom of the people of our great nation would be a much greater crime.
Please accept my condolences and understand that justice will be brought to the peopole responsible for these attack. Justice will be brought, and it will be done within the confines of the laws that govern this nation and it will be brought without the loss of the freedom or liberty which make this country great.

It is "the theory with the least assumptions is more likely to be true.
There are examples of what you call interspecies evolution though. North and South America were not always connected by the Panama isthmus. Fish could freely swim between the Atlantic and Pacific side and you can see in the fossil record the same species on both sides. Then after the isthmus closed and it was no longer possible to take the easy way between those two oceans species on both sides began do diverge from each other. The fossil record after the closing of the isthmus shows clear drift (called speciation) where the fish on one side became a distinct species from the fish on the other, when only a few million years earlier they were the same.

My personal definition is that species are subjective categories which scientist group similiar organisms to help classify the flora and fauna of Earth. It isn't so important that you have a solid definition of species but that once you have a group which you call a species you know that specific group will change over time. After enough time if you look at the same group it will have changed enough for you to subjectively (or objectively, in the case of no ability to interbreed) call it a different species.

As of now there is no allegation or even proof of malice. It is quite plausible that Diebold did indeed screw something up, but there is no reason to believe they did it on purpose.
Yes it is possible for Diebold to generate a fake file. This would take an actual act of malice with the intention of decieving the public. While plausible, for Diebold to do this would be a larger risk than simply handing across an incorrect, yet real data file.
Canada spends more per person on healthcare, even with cheaper drugs. Canada also covers 100% of it's citizens.
The USA spends less per person, even while paying more for drugs. The USA has 45 million uninsured people.
Here comes the kicker. The USA spends more per covered person than Canada does. That's right. Here in the good ol' USA it costs more to have health coverage than it does in Canada per person. 45 million people can't afford it here and therefore when you think Canada spends more than the USA you're right. But Canada keeps everyone healthy, just not the rich.
The simple solution at the moment is earplugs. If this goes in to effect i plan i purchasing a large bag of them and always having a pair handy for flight. Does wonders on isolation from the environment and after 15 minutes you forget they are in.

Why would you think terrorists of any kind are operating on pure emotion? That is one of the stupidest things I've ever read about terrorism. Do you pictures terrorists as running around screaming JIHAD ALLAH ACKBAR with bright red faces from all the blood pumping and emotion waving their arms around until they finally blow themselves up?
You don't think they are capable of calming down from their religious driven rage long enough to plan an attack and have calm logical discussions where they work out intricate details?

Of course there are no games from Japanese developers when they know there is going to be no demand for the system. There is more money to be had from developing games for the gamecube and ps2.
Now it is true that the lack of developed games for the Japanese market is a large part of the xbox failure, but this is entirely Microsoft's fault. Either subsidising or completely funding some Japanese games may have created a market for the XBOX360, but "Generic FPS 3:The Return of the Main Character, Again" with upscaled graphics certainly isn't an intelligent launch plan for a gaming culture like Japan's.
Reiser uses much more CPU for file system tasks. ReiserFS is a modern filesystem meant to run on modern machines. This machine is only 500mhz and therefore Reiser performs poorly. Had this machine been a 2ghz (standard now, 4x faster than the test machine), or even a 1ghz (Outdated and 2x as fast) machine Resier would have performed much better.
If you want to use parts from 1997 to build a computer, Reiser is not for you. 500mhz is at least 8 year old technology if I remember correctly.
Good idea. You should get right on that. Don't forget to keep accurate logs as well as make us pretty graphs to show us how well each filesystem performs?

There have been several comments I've read regarding Military installtions in the US made by military personel browsing slashdot. They claim that the images of bases are actually fake. One such base had a golf course where no existed and so on.
You can already do this with SSH keys! I can connect to several servers and I'm automatically logged in thanks to a nice keypair file between myself and the server. No need for hardware.
