Erm. I can watch mpeg/avi/divx and a few others on my T3. Ask google about mmplayer. And I have a 144k connection to the 'net too, via bluetooth to cell phone. And QVGA is plenty for porn on the go (least that's what I use it for). It's streaming music right now matter of fact, as I'm using it and a portable keyboard to type this comment.
Storage? Between web, music, ssh, and ftp servers at home and apps on the palm to use them, it's a non-issue. VNC too if I really wanted. And the connection is as fast as it would be on a powerbook over bluetooth. Now, we get wifi as well.
There's even a few very well done games as well. Thief3D comes to mind off the top of my head.
Even have a lil Scheme implementation.
Yeah, there's nothing here you can't do on a powerbook. But a powerbook wouldn't make it any faster, so why would I spend the $?
I own a Palm T3, and I'm quite happy with it. There was a huge bug in the beginning, with SD cards 256MB and over getting trashed, but the patch works fine. And there is a freely(beer) available upgrade for the included browser for T3's, some things were missing. Like support for frames. Java is sopposed to be handled a bit better too. And they shipped the T3 before the DIA (dynamic input area -- you can hide it) API was complete. Often you have to load a couple of support PRCs for apps to be able to use it to get the 320x480 screen. But, I'm ok with all of these. Other than having to load a few things that should have already been there, the unit has performed flawlessly. With my bluetooth phone I can use pssh and PalmVNC to get to a "real" OS. However, if I have to deal with this sort of crap with OS6, I'll be looking for a linux based PDA next time, or an iPaq. Check out familiar.handhelds.org, linux on quite a few iPaqs. If I want an OS with problems, I at least want to be able to see the source too!
But, for now, I'm happy with my T3. I accepted OS5 is basicly what DOS would have been if it was GUI to begin with, and that's all I need. And physicly, it is a work of art. If I want a laptop, I'll buy a laptop. If OS6 turns out to handle multitasking well and is easy to work with, I'll stay with palm.
Most 5mm LED's I've seen are 3.6 to 4.0 volt. But anyway, you'll be intrested in this. Take off that piece that says do not remove. It just pops off. Remove the batteries, the "switch" will fall out. Now, bend the + contact straight, and push it out the other side, or wiggle it off (you'll see what I'm talking about). Ok, now that piece that said do not remove, is simply held in by 2 posts. Break one off. Put the resistor in the post hole, coil one end around the bottom where the + contact used to be, solder/superglue it into place. Stick the other contact into the hole where the + contact used to rest, or where most of it is still resting. Reinsert switch, batteries, tailcap. Replace the do not remove piece. Squeeze it down, pop in the LED, attach head, and you're good to go.
Anyone know how these two stack up againsed eachother? MagmaLED and NewBeam Is bigger/more == better in this case? They both look sexy... Going with an EverLED for my club. Eer, 6-D Mag. (ya sold me n1ywb). Oh, and what of my poor little Maglite Solitaire? Or is there just too little room? Obviously, I *really* like Mag, but that Arc AAA is looking like it's worth a shot if not.
"I already described a couple flaws." Which missed the point.
"LogicFlow: Why the hell would OpenBSD think they were making a tank?
I have no idea. That is what the parent post said, not me: vesamies: Even OpenBSD realizes it is a tank."
The point was the logo has nothing to do with the analogy, another one you missed. "If the OpenBSD team thought they were making a tank, they just might have used a logo of a FREAKING TANK."
"You completly missed the point. No, I have to say I think you missed the point." I have to say you still do not understand what an analogy is.
"what exactly does a generally hostile blowfish make you think of? Portability?
No. From the first time I saw their logo, it make me think of blowfish encryption. That was before I knew about their extensive use of blowfish, or even their whole encryption slant."
Missed again. *sigh*. This is getting rather dull. So, you see a logo that reminds you of encryption. What exactly would that tell you about the OS? Even with your strange ideas of the logos somehow matching an analogy, this still makes sence.
No more with this inane bullshit. Look up what an analogy is, and read it again. There logos mean shit in this context. NetBSD _does_ run on the most platforms. FreeBSD _hauls ass_ especially on SMP boxes. OpenBSD _is_ the most secure. And unless you want to spend quite some time hand tweaking your OS this is how it is. Dont give me shit about securing NT or such either. See above. It will have missed the point. At that, don't give me anything. You missed the point, and I suspect it was on purpose simply to initiate a childish pissing contest. Go piss on yourself. I'm done with this thread.
How is the analogy flawed? It's an analogy. Daemon/Daemon/Blowfish wouldn't do very well. Is FreeBSD making a little red man with a pitchfork? No, there making an OS. Why the hell would OpenBSD think they were making a tank? You completly missed the point. And besides, what exactly does a generally hostile blowfish make you think of? Portability?
There's a diffrence between ignorance and ease. They'll still have to learn about the OS underneath to get much done. If in fact they do not, why switch at all?
Seriously though, Why? If you want Windows, use Windows. Better OS behind the GUI? Hell, 2k/XP aren't *that* horrible, especially just for desktop uses. Is there a reason so many people are trying to get joe sixpack to use *nix instead of Windows? I'm not an elitest holier than thou 'cause I know a bunch of arcane commands freak, it just seems to me if you want a Windows GUI Windows just makes more sence. Why copy them? Are we going to go as far as to make look alike replacments for most of the more popular Windows apps? It just all seems silly to me. *shrug*
I think NetBSD falls more into that catagory. I remember hearing a good explanation of there "roles". This isn't exact, but close enough. FreeBSD, a sportscar. Hauls ass. NetBSD, a hummer (or a jeep). Can go anywhere. OpenBSD, a tank. I'd feel safe in one.
Anyone know who originally explained it similar to this? I'd like the original quote.
*cringe* Sadly, I have to listen to these sort of buzzword parades often. Can I get a copy of that corporate buzz word generater? Mabey I can rig it to translate wtf they're saying, or use it to get a promotion to somewhere I don't have to hear it...
Wow. I doubt the techniques themselfs are patented (again wouldn't be surprised) but the artical seems mostly about what it does, not how. Even if it's useless to GCC, I learned a couple new things. Good artical.
First, keep in mind I don't prefer one over the other. However, it isn't required that Emacs be so heavy. Yeah, it's the default, but if you happen to like emacs lisp, it isn't too horrible. Emacs was a good idea. It's just gotten _way_ to carried away like the Windows registry. You can fix it if you want. I would though love to see a 'real' emacs that just didn't come with a news reader, web browser, eliza-type bot, fs manager, calender, etc... And I have to wonder, if the little toys were rewritten to not need an underlying OS, and a kernel added to it, how popular would it be? At it's current state it might actually be feasable. You know EOS sounds cool. Real sick if the supplied editor was in fact vi.
This is what I thought at first. Reading the artical though it makes no mention of it, or am I just blind? It seems the robot works more like 'hotornot':/
Linux runs on an X5. Still work to do, but it's almost useable.f aq.html

http://www.lumileds.com/ Check out the recent docs, and try one of there 5 watt leds. You can make tree tops light up, no prob.
Most 5mm LED's I've seen are 3.6 to 4.0 volt.

Turn it on and have fun ^_^
red + map = bad. Unless you get a map specificly for it, or use one that just happens to not have any red labels.

If I had mod points at all, I would blow them all on this. I loved that show. Do you know if it's still on anywhere?
The stories themselfs are black on white.
Of course it's stupid. That's why it's so damn funny.
And just in case -- think of the cars nick name.

I correct myself. This 'robot' is purely subjective in method. Rather disapointing, all this is good for is a receptionist.
