What you fail to mention is that broadcasters get multiple channels of bandwidth or the fact that HD signals (not DTV) take up a lot of bandwidth. Those add up to roughly the same amount as an analog signal so it is really more of a shift in spectrum, not making more efficient use.
I'm not sure how you rate "reliable" but with analog, you could get full clarity or levels of bad all the way down to snow. Digital is either all or nothing. So much for emergency weather alerts.
The clarity of HD signals also comes into question when you consider the MPEG compression artifacts that plague the format. Many P2P.avi's have less artifacting.
You find me a God damned $50 converter box. Try $200+ (more than most TV's)
These people have their heads planted so far up their asses that they don't have the slightest idea what the market is like. At least they are finally figuring out that 99% of their advertising cash was about to disappear.
Consumers don't give a shit about HD. They want better programming and cheaper TV's. Period. Videophiles want better quality but that's only a small percentage of the viewers.
It is a completely fabricated banning of a technology so that electronics companies can sell everyone a new TV at once.
For one thing, going from a "have not" to a "have" is damn near impossible in the US. The separation of classes is getting farther and harder to cross. You are either born into money or get extremely lucky.
Dealing drugs is a quick way to temporarily become a "have".
Our children look up to drug dealers and thugs as role models. Prison time isn't a punishment, it's street cred.
The death penalty for murder is "unfair" so many states don't use it. Murder is an option for more people. It isn't even shocking anymore.
I'm sure there are many more reasons but I'm too depressed to think about it.
The article is pure speculation, i.e., OSX for x86 MIGHT emerge directly from Steve's ass.
There is nothing to back up the claims, thus no reason to read this.
Even if this hardware dongle was true, it would be quickly bypassed just like every other dongle. With Darwin source I'm sure it would take no time at all to replace the components needed.
Wow, this is the first post I would mod as insightful.
Seems obvious, doesn't it? I'm all for thinking outside the box, but come on, social pressure to perform and a locked down gene pool make much more sense.
This is directly opposed to the situation in Texas where you get a huge gene pool and football.
I see many posts saying how bad the actors were. Most of them are some of the best actors around. In other movies they are extremely talented.
The problem is with the directing. Lucas seems to MAKE them do such a bad job.
Elsewhere in the posts there is discusson about how good the Spanish version is compared to the English version. I'm sure that was because the voice actors didn't have Lucas directing them.
Does anyone know why the acting is so bad in 1-3 and decent to good in 4-6? What made him go this route?
CEOs are laying off thousands to make the company look temporarily more profitable. A CEO can run a company into the ground, get fired and still go home with millions in severance pay.
No wonder people don't want computer related degrees. Those are the first to be laid off.
How about kicking the current crop of CEOs and investing a good chunk of that money in the people who actually produce something. Save money by not retraining the staff every 18 months. Having increased productivity because the people working for the company know each others capabilities and the task at hand.
While the stock market is all that matters, the job situation will not improve.
I've never heard a non geek complain about picture quality on an average broadcast TV. Unless it's a signal strength problem or a failing TV, consumers don't care. NTSC is good enough.
Look at the number of people who download TV shows. The quality really isn't as good as a broadcast but people love it anyway.
The electronics companies needed a way to revolutionize the industry. The consumer isn't driving this revolution.
Just like IBM's Microchannel and Intel's Rambus fiasco, this "improvement" will probably be rejected by the consumer. Online (streaming and/or downloadable) TV may take a big chunk out of the broadcast TV market.
The Canadian or UK boxes don't help.
Where is a $50 US compatible box available for purchase NOW?
I don't think there is a single source.

Performance OR low emissions is cheap, easy and short term benefit.
Performance AND low emissions is a long term, high quality investment.
Enough said.
I'm sure he'll get a huge bonus even if the company folds.
CEO's should get layed off first and paid last.
I ignore those ratings.
Then again, I personally check into the games and movies my children get.
My friends, reviews and my own two eyes are much more accurate than those ratings, plus I know the maturity level of each of my children.
Unless you remove $RACIAL_OR_RELIGIOUS_GROUPs that is a hate crime with the rape used as a form of violence.
Yes, it would place $RACIAL_OR_RELIGIOUS_GROUP_1 on the sex offenders list, but the example had a bit too much information for clarity.
Flashing: minor
Rape: major
Easy distinction. No racial implications needed.
On a separate note, at a first glance I see a surprising number of pairs of dots very near to each other.
Those are schools and churches.

The fact that you can patent a breed of animal is scary enough.

That 10.3 one is definately an empty CD size file. It's all zeros.

So don't bother with it. OTOH, you get great DL speeds
It's fun to be in the group, but honestly I don't think it helps. It probably hurts.
BeOS - DEAD
OS2 - DEAD
Atari - DEAD
Amiga - DEAD (close enough)
BSD - just kidding...
All had rabid fan bases and all died out. OS2 users weren't so bad, but those who liked it were very vocal.
No, they don't support 3D in Linux.
I haven't checked in a while, but it was a horrible situation the last time I checked their user forums.
Also, the Parhelia is dog slow at 3D compared to any basic Nvidia or ATI card.

That quote is simply too perfect.

Unless your hands are water cooled I doubt they get cold.
Heat output was one of the reasons for switching to x86 in the first place.

There were no updates all day.
Why is it that lately separation is viewed as a ban?
If you look at it as the founding fathers wrote it, separation means that there can't be laws written to either enforce OR ban a religion.
So how can you take a religious view to court?
As long as a majority of the taxpayers in that schools community are happy and a resonable attempt at fairness is shown, what is the problem?
Just like the vocal minority of prudes are trying to censor radio and TV, a vocal minority of Athiests are trying to stomp out freedom of religion.
BTW, I'm not a religous nut, I'm a freedom nut.
No more telephone calls between gay couples or else they both get sent to Guantanamo.
