  1. the right technology on Hollywood Studios Fuming Over Indie Studio Deal With BitTorrent · · Score: 2

Bittorrent is the right technology to deliver reams of data to multiple client. It's really good at that. I think it's about time that the media companies accept the reality. If they weren't such dinosaurs, they would have made the move along time ago. But they are dino's, so they will probably still resist to the end.

Seems like this an attempt to overcome "the last mile" problem by some player not the telco or cable company. Like the power company. Maybe the wireless could overcome the last mile as that's what it barely able to do anyway. But most major trafic after that must go fiber anyway. That even they would have to rent.

Heck, look at ol' M$$ and what they get away with. I tell you the corporations are really runnin things here.

  7. Re:Talk about a misleading headline on Dance Dance Revolution Hastens Heart Attack · · Score: 1
These kind of headlines have always grabbed my attention(too), because it was easy to read more into them then was actually said.

you can't really say DDR hastened the heart attack but presumebly some form of strong exercise has brought on the attack; you just can't say DDR above any other form of exercise has done this.

And the headline doesn't explicitly say DDR above some other, we just assume it for some reason.

  8. What I like to see the focus on Building a Search Engine Using Open Technology? · · Score: 1

of such a search engine would be something akin to the philosophy of openness that is common to GNU etc, and free as in beer of course. It's OK to have open rankings, if the point of this is to index the more non-commercial side of stuff. And don't bother to cover the same base as google. What's the point?

I Agree. I've just started to use javascript(ECMAscript) because I had a simple application which would benefit from the UI of the web form, take some input and display the processed result in a window. I'm impressed with how simple it was ( 1 day ) of course I already knew HTML from perl/php programming. But with server-side programming, I had to send back to the server at every fork in the logic. Script can processes all the html objects and create new ones. It can work. But best of all, the UI is standard across platforms and THAT counts for a lot.

  10. Your business is not suitable for a 501(c)3 on What's the Right Way to Accept Donations? · · Score: 1

unless you are serving some group (other than your fiends ) in the fashion of education, social charity, or research that benefits everyone. That's my exprience from working with them (non-profits). Otherwise, your income and profit are subject to taxation. But as the previous post indicated, when the numbers are small it's considered a hobby and not a business. However, you're supposed to declare the income (with a profit/loss) and pay tax on profit. So the word 'donation' here may be misleading.

I'm thinking it's only a matter of time before they have enough umph to do it. Cell phones are headed to be THE electronic device that everyone has. It's sad but maybe true. When the consumer machine can be harnessed, all sorts of improbable technology arrives. It used to be miltary driving technology. Now it's consumers. It never made sense to me to be building P4 workstations for the masses. But it's there. And that is practically all that is there.

It's better advertising because it's not static. Maybe you post your url's around your tourism-based business, they are static... you don't need to change signs. But the pages behind could be dynamic. And some people would like the anon-nomity of that, viewing the ads away from the sales people. Maybe, or not.
