Android does have these features, present in cupcake, I believe (Android 1.5). I own a G1 with Android 1.6 (long live Cyanogenmod), and the pinch-gesture works for zooming in/out. The double-tap anywhere on the screen also zooms in. There's also zoom buttons on the screen when you slide your finger across it, in addition to another zoom button that zooms completely out with a small magnifier: use your finger to scroll to the part of the screen you want to view, then release.
I checked my e-mail today to see a message from Nvidia:
from Timothy Bornemisza to "laebshade@gmail.com" date Mon, Oct 5, 2009 at 3:49 PM subject Saw your/. post mailed-by nvidia.com hide details 3:49 PM (33 minutes ago) Hi laebshade-
I saw your/. post below - can you give me some more details about what changed 190.62? I can definitely check and see if we did this intentionally:) We're feeling pretty good about the 190.xx series of drivers and but if there's a regression, we would certainly want to go get this fixed.
Thanks, Tim Bornemisza Senior Software Engineer, NVIDIA
And my response:
"I'm impressed that Nvidia monitors Slashdot.
I'm unable to give you more details or provide testing info, as that computer is currently in storage 360 miles away from me. I'm fairly certain it was with the 190.62, that's when I noticed the problem at least. It will be at least 2 months, maybe longer, before I am able to get more detail/test with the newer version again; however, I can tell you I was running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and had been using Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit prior to that."
I had a similar problem with a driver update for Nvidia, though it had nothing to do with using another video card. My HTPC setup connects my PC with an 8600GT with component cables to my TV, an old, Samsung flat-screen CRT. I bought it used for cheap, the color is fantastic, and it does 640x480p. In combination with the horizontal/vertical TV adjustments, I also used the equivelant adjustments built into the Nvidia software to get the perfect screen size with no overscan.
For about a year I had been using it in that setup. I usually check the nvidia website for driver updates, and had been through at least 2 since I set it up with no problems. The latest driver update, 190.62, suddenly disabled the prized feature I was using, stating it was not supported with my particular setup. I had to downgrade to the earlier version to get it working correctly.
I'm not sure if Nvidia did this on purpose to try to get me to upgrade to a newer/better card, or if it was just some unintentional bug that was overlooked, but I've learned not to always upgrade to the newest driver.
I hate cats. Annoying little creatures. Imagine my surprise when I recently met a girl who hates them, too, though for different reasons: she's allergic to them. She's in Japan right now, but I'm going to ask her out when she gets back.
No, but that isn't the point. When everyone is using the same tool, it's a level playing field. Yeah, you can aim a lot faster with a keyboard and mouse, but it just isn't as much fun.
Your experience is completely different than mine. All of my mini-usb chargers/data cables I used on my Razr work with my G1 and vice versa. Every last one of them. One wall charger and one data cable at work: used them on my Razr until I got my G1. Both work with my G1 - yes, it actually charges it. Two wall chargers and a data cable at home. One wall charger was an extra Motorola-labeled one I had, the other came with the G1. I have a mini-usb data cable I've had for about 5 years that works with my Razr and my G1.
Motorola does not lock their stuff down. Cell carriers do that.
Reminds me of the anime, "Shangri-La". Carbon credits are sold like on a stock market. Kids have the market under their complete control. It's pretty ridiculous.
Like any tool, the more you use, the better you get at using it. I too had your same skepticism when it came to playing console FPSers after playing computer FPSers for so long. It takes a while, but after a few months, you get good at using the analog sticks to aim. Really good. Then you realize you have a lot more fun playing on your couch, reclined, with one controller in hand than you ever did sitting at your computer, back straight, staring at the comparatively tiny screen, using a few keys on one instruments to move around while the other controls your Z axis and firing. You're stuck to that computer. If I'm playing Call of Duty on my couch, and I want to switch to the other couch, or recline on my couch, lay down on my couch, or use my recliner, I can. I can stand while playing. My once gamer PC now sits in my room; I've since ditched windows on it in favor of Ubuntu, but I still only use it a few times a week. Most of my time is spent in my living room on my Xbox or using my MPC. But I do agree with you on one point: RTS on a console just doesn't work.
I switched from my Razr to my G1 and was able to keep all my chargers. All my data cables worked, too. Even though the HTC G1 uses the proprietary Ext USB connector, it is backwards compatible with mini-USB connectors. 1 charger and data cable at work, 2 chargers and a data cable at home, and 1 data cable to carry in my bag. I wish more vendors were like Motorola and HTC.
Unfortunately, my new stereo bluetooh Lubix headset has a microUSB charger. Damn.
Am I the only one on here that thinks of Dennou Coil or Eden of the East (Higashi no Eden) when I read about thiss? I would love to have an augmented reality ala Dennou Coil, complete with the glasses, but Eden of the East-style identification would be fun, too.
for this for my G1. I'm surprised this wasn't included, even though it's in closed beta. PF Voicemail Fusion works ok, but youmail is horrible for the G1. Google Voice already has an android app, so I can't wait!
Local banks are where it's at. My local bank covers all atm fees. I can use it anywhere in the world at atms that take Pulse/Star; the only catch is, I have to initially pay for it, but once the transaction clears, they refund the atm fees. Checking is free, unless I go negative, of course. But being able to overdraft in emergencies is useful.
TWC isn't in my area. I have Comcast, so I don't really care too much what TWC is doing. Even if I did, TWC doesn't serve my area, and even if it did, I have the commercial service with Comcast. Since I pay a premium, it's very likely I would be exempt. On Comcast, I'm already exempt from the 250 GB/month bandwidth cap.
I was waiting for this. Thanks.
Screw V-6's. Inline 6's have more power and better reliability. Inline engines always do.

Try joining Google so you can work on their new app. Use your existing app as reference.

And have a mouse/keyboard tied to your lap/table while you play? How much different is that compared to sitting down at a PC?

I don't have a laptop.

Replying to my own post, but...
I don't want the government tracking my mileage. Not in my car, not on my motorcycle, and especially not on my person (slippery slope anyone?)
At least where I live. Only the Atlanta/metro area require emissions checking. Not required in the relatively small city I live in.
I don't think anything I own is Sony-made, and it was never really a conscious choice.

Cheaper, better service, no threats of filters, uploading caps, and they're the only major US telecom to say no to Bush wiretaps.
All that, and you don't even know that it's spelled Qwest /works at an ISP

That's because Verizon locks their phones down big time. Since the phone detected a USB data connection, it refuses to charge.

Only if you want to end up like 1guy1jar.
