So, uh, they're going to support a beta Web browser instead? Interesting. yes, firefox practically always gets updated to the latest minor release. So from the support side it doesn't really matter... and if you ask about security support: mozilla lands security fixes they push into 2.0.0.x branches first on trunk. so you will surely get those too... maybe even before the firefox 2 release that would include those.
A good bunch of Linux kernel is licensed GPLv2 only... so in fact Linus cannot switch to GPLv3 without approval of all contributors - which is hardly doable imo. Remember how long it took the mozilla project to get permissions from all contributors to relicense the source under Tri-License. Maybe I am wrong, but even if Linus sees that GPLv3 is a good and necessary step... he would not admit that.
For me it looks like Linus tries to find reasons to justify a (wrong) decision he made years ago: not to trust RMS to keep upcoming GPL versions within the spirit of GPL. He intentionally removed the "and later clause"... and now the ball returns.
He believes that rather than adopting technological methods to try to stop unauthorized copying of music, record companies need to do more to remove the incentive for piracy."
Yes, as always, innovation (of products, price, distribution and markets) to match actual demands is almost certainly superior to oppression and enforcing old entrenched business models by law... but why is noone listening? Do they all need to live through oppression on their own to get a clue?
Both ISPs are so self-named premium ISPs in Germany. All discount providers do it the way you described above. AFAIK, both: Alice and T-Com never put a transfer limit on anyone. In fact, I use Alice too (6Mbit/s Down, 600 kbit/s Up) and never experienced any limit.
In addition, you have none of the above bads and no hurricanes, earthquakes et al. Maybe the weather is bad, but who cares if you have that much bandwidth.
I hoped that mankind was following other virtues than those given by evolution. Otherwise, I don't see why we need laws and all. Just do what you like and what makes you survive.
Is it really that way? Is everthing in RHEL GPL? Let's say I download the evaluation version and install it and as soon as it tells me that the 30 trial is over I say: Gimme the source, so I can fix this?
Would be great to know! But I guess that's not true or is there a free redhat clone out there?
Freenet was designed to prevent you to track where the traffic comes from and where it is going.
That does not mean that it is impossible to find out if you are running freenet at all. So freenet cannot protect you from a government that makes freenet illegal.
mozilla and firefox are capable to do kerberos SSO. NTLM SSO is flawed anyway. Try about:config (type to the location bar) and set the config value for: 'network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris'. For example set it to 'https://somehost.somedomain.com' to enable SSO Negotiation for that domain.
We all agree that selling the binaries does not violate the GPL, if the source code is still available (at least upon request). I found that the current *nix source includes a build instruction for win.
So has anybody tried to build it that way? If the only patch not included would be the 30 day trial count, I think we all could live with it! If it is not that way, maybe someone should simply ask him to provide the source code of the windows version! Maybe he is just and will send you the source-code he used to build the win binaries from!

Oh, some games actually work great!! I am used to run my unreal tournament 2003 game on my debian sid box once a week. It's pretty nice how linux developed in this area. Maybe some more game vendors will start pushing the development. Then even the "except play games"-constraint will vanish soon.
... and it probably will get another boost now that millions of ubuntu users will be using it.
I never used Windows XP nor Vista. Still its probably the most popular OS. Welcome to the club of niche product users, I guess :)
... or sudo apt-get install firefox-2
exactly ... and remember that even mozilla thinks its ready for prime time

from debian bug 277572
I remember a student-project at our anti-virus test lab that ran corporate/enterprise editions for all products they tested.
Norton took 6 days to scan a heap of files other scanners managed to process in 3 hours.

Ah, and I nearly forgot: Starting from Oct 2005 you can get a 18 MBit/s flat incl. telephone line for 49,90 EUR.
... so move.
Though, the 25MBit mentioned in my post above is a trial, this one is RETAIL! You can get it in 14 cities of germany
p.s. sorry for the german links. Maybe try babel or google translation to get a clue.
Come to Hamburg, Germany .... here you can get a 25 MBit/s DSL line for 28,99 EUR + 29,95 EUR if you want all this flat.

I guess that would be the next move here!
Bug confirmed ;). A fact that IBM's revenue is less then microsofts would be ridiculous.
Nevertheless, my question is still (even more) valid.
Microsoft will earn $38 bn in 2005.
IBM received $23.2 bn in 2004.
How will those figures look in 2008?You remember?
