What I want in a company is a good product that has a niche. Not just a code monkeys college product turned commercial (not that that is always bad... think samba). Provide a good product that does something your competitors dont do or dont do well. Document it and make it idiot proof and then back it up!
Good luck, good ethics will help you alot. Keep to your goals.
Only on the WB and not until 2005 you have to have something to follow up that crazy Bernie Mac!
WAH!
No personally I love gadgets but I wouldnt want to subject any of my friends and family to my pasty white face. If I ever have a dire need I can use a webcam but I think it is too 'gimmiky'.
Comcast keeps giving me lower rates when my promotion ends. I have gone the last year with cable modem rates of $20/mo just by asking for a discount. Drawback is that they DO NOT offer static IP. Although my IP hasnt change for a year, I may have to move to a more costly provider if my requirements increase. What's perhaps driving their pricing is the competitors in my community. While Comcast was instrumental to spreading broadband to the South King country and North Pierce county with their pushing upgraded cable to rural outlying areas, I saw several miles of expansion over a course of months in the Buckly WA area, companies like Skynet Broadband with ads like Show us your bill and we will double your Bandwidth for the same price as your current broadband provider have cut into their sales and retainings. Unfortunately recent server comprimises (a month apart) and the days of downtime for their subscribers has kept me from pursuing it. However the average user is often price driven, so perhaps they change over. In the long run it may be the quality of service and dependability that keeps them as loyal customers. I hope the little guy can do that, until then I am sticking with what works at a price I can more than afford.
Are you serious about the $300-$800? You spend $300 on a good camera alone. Do you think the benefits are gonna outweigh the costs (try $1k+)?
As interesting as the idea sounds, I see alot of hurdles to get over, perhaps the greatest of which is training a 65yo how to use it.
We have a local wireless company Skynet Broadband in NW washington that has been hacked twice in what seems like less than that 60 days. As a result its subscribers are out of internet for 3-4 days while they rebuild everything.
I'm willing to give them a chance though I'm not entirely confident in their services.
Sure NAT is the first thing I thought of however I personally dont think NAT is going to be the be-all-end-all of the internet. It is conceivable that one day there could be enough servers or devices (a whole lotta!) that need to be in the dmz and there are limitations with NAT.
What I was always curious about is exactly what Symantec is talking about in their "blended threats" speeches about people walking through NAT like it wasnt there. I would imagine if that is the case there will need to be something more secure to replace it. But honestly I dont know what that could be, or how that will effect the IPv4 vs IPv6 implementation.
A commercially viable use for bluetooth. Perhaps this is the first truly successful use of bluetooth. However, like all of the other hype surrounding bluetooth it will no doubt be driven totally from a marketing machine.
The only difference I see between this and all of the other uses for bluetooth is that it didnt start with marketing hype and no usability... just the oposite. Usability that will soon directly benefit the marketing and ads companies.
Bluetooth may have been more successful if it were developed this way in the first place. Usable concept first, release the hounds second.
Does anyone subscribe or put this into regular use? I see alot of information but it is a bit beyond my scope. Are there any security manuals or best practices focused to small biz or SOHO anyone has had success with?
Most of those stupid function keys are based on the driver.
I use a logitech cordless mouse/kybd combo and also suffered the f-lock combo maddness. However I used the driver for an HP Multimedia keyboard (send me a message and I can send you a copy) and it enables the volume keys and the email button, IM button and a couple others while leaving the Fkeys undisturbed.
Otherwise use the windows default drivers. Win2k and XP default kybd drivers 90% of the time auto recognize the volume controls and sleep buttons.
I cannot stress the value of good contracts!
A good starting point is http://www.proposalkit.com/ that has excellent boilerplate proposals and contracts.
Think of the professional image you give with a 5-8 page proposal and a legal binding contract. It will seperate you from the amatuers out there that dont know anything beyond dreamweaver and give single page proposals.
It displays professionalism and forethought, both of which are vitally important to your potential customers and safeguards you from a major fall.
I have been working with burton hosting for about a year now and have had nothing but success and glowing appreciation. I have around a dozen domains running with them and have had NO complaints. Tech support is more than knowledgeable and prompt. With MSN and ICQ supported for online support I have never needed to call. All the latest hosting features supported and it is extremely affordable.
and aid in making linux distributions more commonplace and easy to configure. I have installed and configured just about all every distro out there and still find something lacking. If I can get it modularized or configged as the post describes it may put me over the hurdles I have been facing. And as new features and ease of setup issues are resolved the platform becomes more powerful and usable by all. Isn't this the point of Open Source projects?
I used to sell Apples and now is the time all the stores freak out about overstock. If you are looking for a good deal, and you don't mind being a little behind the curve, hit some of your smaller shops and you can really save some money.

Cool consoles, but how are you gonna fit a 2 litre bottle of MtDew in those little bitty cup holders?

Will shortly be announced as the replacement of DVD. And they all told me I was crazy!
While I applaud your for your efforts, isnt this thing a little big? I mean it looks like it has twice the volume of the other case.
I would be more impressed if you took some of the original shape or something so you could look at it and still recognize it as an XBOX.
complaining aside, good work with the plexi, I would have a mishapen mess and nothing but scratches and abrasions

Was reported to say that 'Longhorn wasn't ready for the desktop either'
Oh well, perhaps in another couple years.
I have installed some win updates that shut down the entire system with no warning.
Nothing gets your blook pumping like a minor patch rebooting the DC in the middle of the afternoon.
Note to self... 'finish' sometimes means restart.

Noone pays any attention to his Mincemeat Pies.
My bad. I intended to mod it insightful and I hit the scrollwheel and then mod.
Note to self... be more careful with the mod points! -although I am probably gonna be banned now

Not too long and you won't even be able to find a bluetooth mouse.
Bluetooth was laid off a long time ago but due to a glitch it was never informed. We fixed the glitch... It will just work itself out.
How about if it works dont fix it?

I thought 802.11g was made a standard according to this /. post.
