    Hard to believe but you could also say it is like the Regan "just say no" administration selling drugs to raise funds to support their covert ops.

    I don't see what the problem is? Most IDE hard drives either go out within one month or last more than 5 years anyway.

    You will when the drives begin to only last for 18 months. Why do QA when a warranty reduction will be far cheaper. Does it bother anyone that the big 3 are all doing this at the same time. Smells like price fixing to me.

    To solve the problem we should all just wait till we have owned one for 11 months, do a backup and then let them run all night in front of a furnace register. After they die from heat in a day, just mail it back. See how they feel about a 1 year warranty then. Seems to me it would serve em right.

    My apologies to the parent poster but I would like a few replies.

    I own an A/V amp, 2 TVs, 2 VCRs, and a audio CD player and all are made by JVC but as I vote with my dollars I will not be replacing any of them with new JVC equipment. Can anyone recomend a brand or brands of a similar price/performance level?

    I am planning to replace my main TV set this year (around Xmas time) so if you know of a good 30ish inch set that is of good value and quality in the 200-350 dollar range it would be of some help.

    This really sucks the big one.

    I mean if they can sue over the use of the zilla suffix, couldnt the major religons sue over use of their GOD icon? This really sucks. They want to be a household word like any franchise does, but they dont want us to use it as such. I would say this is crossing the Fuck You threshold.

    I have been a fan of the big green lizard since i first saw the american version of the original film, but thats all over now. I gave up on Star Trek when they started going after fan sites in the 90s. what the hell is the world coming to?

    .....in this case, civil disobedience via DOS hurts not only the RIAA. but the ISPs that have to carry that traffic and are innocent. Don't make a third party have to pay for your cause.

    So are you saying that the DoSers should instead of hacking, build a bomb and just attack RIAA in the real world?

    The way I see it is, If the ISPs grow tired of getting hammered with collateral damage "by carrying the bandwidth" Then they (ISPs) should refuse to carry ANY RIAA traffic at all. When you facillitate the argession you make yourself a target. If they just refused to pass any RIAA packets to or from the RIAA sites they take themselves OUT of harms way right? Isnt this an already accepted method. Ask any Cuban boat person who you might meet.

    Well I cant deny that this sounds really cool, but I just cant see much use in it for Joe Average.

    80 MPH at 20 MPG for 1 person to go about 90 miles?
    1. Hell even a motorcycle would be a better mass transit vehicle.
    2. If ya wanna take a buddy ya better bring a rope.
    3. Even the most foolhardy insurance company won't touch this thing.
    4. I don't own a jet ski/motorcycle and I know how to swim/walk, forget about walking home or swimming to shore if it runs out of gas.
    5. You don't have to worry about refolding that roadmap because ya cant hold the damn thing and maintain control at the same time.
    6. Its easy to know who has the right of way at a 4 way street intersection but what about a 360 degree 3D intersection?
    7. Airplanes glide, copters auto rotate, but unless ya have a ballistic parachute your screwed.
    8. Crosswind landings are going to slam you through your neighbors living room window.
    9. Even as the crow flies I can't see this as a decent way to get from point A to point B without GPS.
    10. I live in Kansas and bird hunting is really big, some drunk with a shotgun is sure to ruin a nice day of airscoot'n.

    That being said, if they solve 9 10ths of these problems, I really want one of these things.

    Well, I don't know about getting porno, but it would be nice if they would start showing more movies un-dubbed. You know the movies that are totally ruined by editing the language. Movies like comedys where most if not all of the jokes are of an adult nature or contain BAD words. They show them but why? In the edited form they are not only no longer funny, but most of the time they don't even make sense at all.

    Maybe commercials will be better too, imagine an ad for bras, "When My tits got saggy like this, (removes shirt to reveal the now deflated milk bags) I turned to the NEW SUPER TITSLINGER 2000"!!! Or one for a jock itch powder, "Gee Dave, my balls are driving me up a wall but you NEVER seem to scratch. What's your secret?" "Well Bob, I use NEW MAXIMUM STRENGTH NUTS GUARD, it really works!!!" Or a feminine hygene spray....

    What was my point again?

    I feel the same as you I think for the most part, gov. has been sticking its nose in the wrong business.

    Here is a thought to chew on....

    Many of the arguments made by this or that political party is "yadda yadda is bad because it's un-natural". Well, in nature when a nest is disturbed by an outside entity said nest is often abandoned by the parent and the offspring die as a result. Is that different from what we are seeing in our human world?

    (Score:0, Redundant) huh? Well ok I admit it was kind of soon to repost the link but I find it interesting that the moderators were quick to stamp down my post on that basis considering the topic in question IS censorship.

    What has "Boy this would be cool if we beowolfed these in a cluster" added to a discussion? Really how many times have we seen this as a post?

    Anyone with half a brain could see that it was prefaced with the fact that I had posted it before, but I see the obligatory "first post" post wasn't redundant it was just off topic.

    This is a subject that is likely to generate lots of the same reactions and as such I guess I shouldnt have bothered trying to draw attention to a book like 1984 as everyone here has been there and done that. Even though I can't count the number of people who I have spoken to (or read /. posts from) that have refrenced "BIG BROTHER" with regards to everyone from Bill Gates to the US school system. And very few can say they have read the freakin book, much less to understand the concepts contained their in. To most of them BIG BROTHER = ANY BAD THING.

    I was attempting to give a chance to see the real thing without them needing to try to find the printed work.

    I guess I'll point out the fact that I am from Kansas. When I mention that to Aussies I chat with the first thing they ask is "aren't you afraid of the twisters?" closely followed by "Do you know the wizard?" or similar reference to the wizard of OZ. I have never heard "Kansas eh, you must screw your cousins". When I hear about Australia, exiled prisoners is NOT the first thing I think of, though lawful persecution of the native peoples is.


    I am aware that the school policy about not teaching darwin's evolution theory makes us a laughing stock, but actual evolution is still working in kansas (I'm not sure how a law could change a natural process).
