Those are two different things. They are required to give out the source code to their version of Linux (if they modified something), but presumably they've written some proprietary software for Linux, which they are not required to give the source code for or otherwise allow distribution.
Emergence basically means that we can't predict ahead of time what will happen, we have to 'see it through all the way'. Many higher-level processes in the universe are emergent phenomena (life, for one thing), which is one of the reasons why we'll never be able to predict the future.
So if you're trying to prove a mathematical theorem, I might agree that brute force could make you lazy (I'm a computer scientist though - so probably not:-), but in this case, there's no other way.
Err, did you read the article you refer to? They solved it for a very simple situation with just 16 possible answers. Doing it by hand or by computer would've been vastly more efficient, and they admit that scaling it up is the big problem right now. So we're not "already there" I'm afraid.
It's kind of complicated, so bear with me..
Type "www.google.com" in your address bar, type "MySQL download" in the Search box and click "I'm Feeling Lucky". If you get stuck somewhere along the way just post again.
There's an enormous amount of work to be done on this.
...and an enormous amount of funding needed, I would guess. Too bad the article doesn't show any opposing views, just the opinion of the guy who thought it up and hence needs to promote it at all costs.
Granted, it's an interesting idea, but I'm wondering how sharp this supposed 'creativity boundary' really is. I find it unlikely that something so complex and essential to human society would be linked to only a handful of genes - that's ignoring a very large part of the evolution of the primate mind.
"The RIAA _claim_ sharing their content hurts the bottom line, but imagine the damage caused when people learn they can find their own legal music..."
Yeah, it's about time there were alternatives to all that overpriced commercial music.
Let's create free, open-source versions of Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys!

"Console game seem to have a lot more operations cash lying around, but I can't understand why."
Because console games make vastly more money than PC games.
This is caused by a combination of factors, like piracy, PC's being harder to use, getting obsolete much faster, having more diverse hardware and hence being buggier, and the fact that you're not half as comfortable sitting behind your desk with your mouse and keyboard as you are with a controller on the couch.

Massively useful that thing, too bad it doesn't do phrases like "100 gigapixel pictures in libraries of congress" yet.

3. Send regular and lengthy papers to the funding orginization
4. Collect paycheck
Shouldn't #4 read "Profit!!!" ?

The original poster is in trouble because he has breached his contract. He agreed [...] to keep records and originals.
Don't the companies themselves keep records? Maybe he could just phone them and ask for a copy of the contract.
