Right, so they'll have 2 PR divisions, 2 marketing divisions,... The key word here is "expect". My former company's management didn't expect layoffs either, but funnily enough they did 6 rounds before sinking completely.
If you read the article, you would have seen that both companies are keeping their perspective names and business model the way it is. The only thing that is merging is the cluster technology on their systems to compete against bigger companies. Doing this, both companies will most likely create a department for testing the clusters on their hardware and providing hardware, software, and support in one bundle to the customers. By trying this move, the company can brag about selling everything you need for extreme computing.
It reminds me of the Oracle radio commercial: We have the violinist, pianist, and the guitarist.
In this case: The Penguin, The Wulf, and The Beast
The parent post only got a score of 4? Sheesh... I think Alan deserves his own story. What do you need a hot-shot (Bill, Steve, Linus, Richard) to pass away to get noticed. Bad/.
Along with kernel panics hahahahahaha
Linus: Sure, I have had my linux box crash plenty of times.
Dude from SuSe: It must be your CPU.

Oh you mean a faster blue screen of death. Thats just great a 64-bit Windows XP OS for Word and Outlook apps. So does this mean, one needs to wear 3D glasses when an email arrives on my desktop. What a waste of cpu. I could understand server 2003 but a XP 64-bit. Sheesh, you swear hardcore gamers won't setup a 64-bit lan game server running 2003.
hmmm... sorry I do not agree with you. Last time I used redhat (1998), I had to do the same as slackware. You mean to tell me if I install RedHat, Mandrake, or SuSe in advance mode I won't be able to do the same as Debian or Slack. All that Slack brings to an installation is a full blown CD with options (eg: base) to load on your disk drive. On the other hand; Debian is a great distro that lets you do the same as slack but also you can download packages like gentoo. Uh, if a newbie does not know how Deb's update system works; then it is a waste of time getting their system to work, as opposed to use that time to learn about the basics. Sorry not all newbies are l33t to automatically pickup a floppy and fdisk their drive and start downloading utilities. Once again, I think the LFS project is the best method to learn the systemworks of linux after getting your toes wet with a working easy to install linux distro for a newbie. I don't think a mechanic's first step to learn about cars is howto rebuild engines before learning howto drive.
Just my $0.02
Mandrake was one of the first distros I used to learn *nix. I hope they can focus just on the distro and once again start making dough. I just wished LFS was around when I first jumped into the *nix world. Peace.
Haven't we seen this about RH already?
Haven't you heard of paying your employees? What you think all their (RedHat) money comes from software sales? In order for a company to make it's product succeed "$", it needs to prove that not only is it a great product but also it is a solution for an enterprise environment. That said, you need qualified, certified, and experienced candidates to perform the job. A person who acts like she or he does not need a certification; shows laziness for not going out of their way to represent their company as fully qualified professional. I think this is a great move by Red Hat, Oracle, Apple, etc. to get their product supporters certified for better business representation.
Linux is now for the masses, gentlemen time to get those linux certifications and start wearing those three piece suites!

Go for it, you will soon find out that you will pay more for tuition and classes than shelling out cash for an iPOD.
Neo follow the rabbit.
Neo: Hey you are not morpheus!
Hugh: I know... Welcome to my house Neo.
Neo: Look at the jugs on her WOW!
Hugh: Neo... you can choose the Red, Blue, or Green pill.
Hugh: If you take... WTF?
Neo: Shit... I'll take'm all.
Neo passes out.
Hugh: Girls remain calm, this is the first time someone has swallowed Viagra, XTC, and Spanish Fly all at the same time.
Bunny1: He is mine.
Bunny2: No, mine.
Neo wakes up:
Neo: Where am I, and why am I so f#@*en sticky?
Hugh: Neo... Welcome to the Playtrix.
Trinity: Wake up Neo, were under attack!
Neo wakes up and realizes it was a wet dream and has white stains all over himself.
Neo: Not again.
Reloaded the movie starts.
SCO is like North Korea, threatening people to help them out because they are starving. This is not a joke it is a sad thing.
Their source code/secrets etc. is out in the wild, there is no way SCO can sue everyone in this planet.
