Because government people are still people and they, and you and I -- and everyone -- are stupid.... I try to be careful in my old age anymore with judging, blaming and thinking others are stupider. I've got waaay too many screwups on my record to talk. It is simply a matter of time before you (or me) has our next big stupid moment in finances, love, work, etc. Just because they work for the government doesn't mean they are different or better or worse. Probably one of the best arguments against vast and complex conspiracies is simply that: that people in any conspiracy are just stupid people like me and you.
To quote Bullet Tooth Tony:
"Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...."
The godfather died while playing with his grandson and putting an orange peal in his mouth, pretending to be a monkey. Also, I think when he was shot earlier in the movie he was at a produce stand on the street picking over oranges....
Good catch though. I never made the connection with oranges in the godfather movies....
Exactly. Blaming file-sharing for the practice of manufacturing celebrity is total crap. I grew up in the 80s. I hated the music of the 80s. I hated what they did to zztop, the police, on and on. That is, when legitimate, underground bands were discovered they were so re-manufactured that the music was disgusting. The era just before file sharing is the best example of marketers controlling the art.
As Tom Petty once said, "I like rock because just about the time it start to suck, something shakes it up again."
File sharing is the latest thing to do that, and has done it well....
Reminds me of a piece from that cache of quotes from court documents some where on the internet:
"Your honor, the fact that the defendant was dead has nothing to do with the pain they must have suffered due to a bad autopsy, and that is what this case is really about."
Seriously, listen to yourself. You sound like a lawyer....
Ever been in court? Defending yourself? I have. One day, when you are finally drug into court and have to defend yourself, what you said here today will come back to you in spades....
Harrassing a handicapped mother, her child and disrupting the child's education (by wanting to depose during school hours). Congo rats RIAA! You've pulled the trifecta!...
Seriously, the devil is going to be in serious need of something to do the way these fookers are going. I think even he sits back, looks at these cases and says, "dayum...."
Scan yourself down to the most fundamental level (regardless of what that is), and build an exact duplicate without destroying the original. Press the start button on the duplicate, assuming instantaneous duplication and starting.
My little daughter had some money from birthdays, etc. I take her to my bank, sit her down with the lady and we create her a savings account. I wanted the whole thing to be a learning lesson. I check it later and they've taken $10 of the $50 out for fees.... I didn't think they would since they don't take that money out on my main savings since I have other accounts with them. I've been planning on giving a piece of my mind soon. If they don't put the money back I'm going to withdraw and open at another bank that won't do that stupidity....
And blogs are are always people starving for attention
And news group/slashdot posts are always trollings

Otherwise, good jost of editing out a piece of my posts. Naturally, anyone would know that world-building is just a part of what makes Tolkien's work good. But, otherwise, you have adequately disqualified the worth of just about everything dear everyone here discusses ad infinitum (star wars, dune, star trek, etc.).
Odd. I always thought most slashdotters were Tolkien fans. Next: Star Trek blows....
I think evidence shows Tolkien published his work through the persuasion of close friends and by a final desire to share it with the world, money was an after thought.
I stated in another post that Bombadil had to be removed for the movies to work. I also have stated that I enjoyed the movies, but they are no more the work of Tolkien than "Shakespeare In Love" (with Gwinneth Paltro sic?) is a work of Shakespeare.
There is plenty in the books to reveal that Bombadil is far greater and important than at first realized. Only the novice doesn't know or see this and tons have been written on him -- perhaps more than any other character. Bombadil was not necessary to the immediate narrative of LoTR. He was irreplaceable to the greater cosmology that encompasses all of the books describing Arda.
Please simply google, "who was tom bombadil."
I'm getting rather too tired to explain all of these things to people when google is right there for you....
Good points, and I concede I have not watched the director's vo. I did watch the extra dvd footage with jackson interviewed, lee, etc.
I liked the movies too and have watched over and over. I do stress to others that this is not LoTR or Tolkien's work at all. It is an entirely different story as told by jackson and co. That it simply what it is....
You seem very sure that Tolkien would have objected, but I can see no evidence.
Two words: Michael White. Look up his thoughts on what Tolkien would have thought of the movie.
Tolkien did indeed sell the movie rights for 10k pounds in the late 1960s. However, both he and Christopher, apparently, stated it would not dramatize well. Also, knowing that he had a rather huge family to support -- and took up such extra jobs as grading jr school papers -- I would imagine he needed the money.
In any event, I do believe I remember a quote where he did learn of the early forms of d&d just prior to his death and did not favor them at all....
As my Koine Greek professor stated in illustrating the many uses of 'that,':
"Is that that that that man talked about?..."

Along those same lines, please explain to me the justification behind ATM transaction fees.
Gentlemen, you can't fight in here. This is the war room.
I think evidence shows Tolkien published his work through the persuasion of close friends and by a final desire to share it with the world, money was an after thought.
Too pejorative to be considered a proper response.
Good point.
best advice i've had all day....
I totally concur. Thanks for the quote. I've been making this point. Please read my other posts in this thread....
It's /. I post something you don't like, then you post something I don't like. That's how we do things here.

mebe. prolly not tho....
Oh, and you get points for "Bah Humbug." That's a rare drop....
Good points, but I never argued the movies were used, just that Tolkien would have not approved of them and, therefore, this game....
Very good point. When did Hardees do this?

He was a literary being, not a gamer....
