There are two problems with the sticker:

First, it assumes that somehow the theory of evolution, which has held up for 150+ years, is a tenuous set of ideas, especially in comparison to other parts of the scientific cannon. It gives evolution a position that makes it appear less valid than other scientific theories such as electromagnatism, gravity, and chemistry.

Second, it introduces doubt and confusion in students about not only evolution, but the scientific method entirely by confusing the meaning of the word theory.

Your argument continues to do what other Creation-Scientists, ID or whatever you're ilk are calling themselves, have done: you confuse theory and the scientific method with conjucture and supposition and, even religion.

If ID people really believed in their faith, they would persue the strict teaching of the scientific method and evolution allowing their kids to decide on what they want to believe.

This leads me to one fairly basic conclusion. Most of the people posting on Slashdot these days are young, easily impressionable males, that have little sense or understanding of two sides of a discussion and generally are very one-eyed about subjects with little or no flexibilty to gauge information as valid or relevant. You know you're reading Slashdot, right?

Seriously, it is entirely possible, and even a sign of intelligence to be able to hold two intellectually opposing ideas in your head at the same time.

    For example:
    - Apple and OSX is good, but...
    - MS is evil because of Windows which blows, however Xbox Live is remarkably well-made, and frankly if those engineers were put in charge Windows might start sucking less.

Flame wars are part of discussions on the internet unfortunately, where people are anonymous--how many flames are started or furthered by ACs?--and therefore much braver than they would normally be.

But, I agree the mods are just using the system to hammer opposing opinions; I find myself modding a lot of content 'redundant.'

Furthermore, the kid if properly taught will be able to quickly adapt to the brand-new MS Office which is somthing employers are really looking for: intelligence and adaptability. If a graduating student cannot get a job simply because he does not know Office than we should abandon the school system entirely and just simple hand-out MS manuals. Frankly, even with Word you can run into problems with students who are still using WordPerfect, WordStar or some other ancient program. There are benefits to using industry-standard standards, not programs.

I think the difference is Apple is trying to balance the need for DRM (some people really believe in this shit) and Fair Use. They haven't always succeeded, but at least they're trying. On the other hand you have Microsoft who thinks DRM is such a great idea, they're going to bring it down to the hardware level with Trusted Computing. IBM, et. al. have resisted getting into the fray at all, and thus Linux as an operating system has no real voice in this, at yet is probably the most threatened by DRM and all of it associated hobgoblins.

Remember that Apple often restricts iTunes because of a demand by the RIAA, so the fact that we still have a good system of actual rights with digital music is at least partly by the work of Apple.

I think if able to Apple would institute a transparent DRM system that was as fair as possible if given the opportunity. On the other hand, Microsoft will lock down your computer so much so you'll have to ask permission from someone in Bangalore before you can burn a CD.
