Well, you didn't cop out on the effort required for this post. As of yet, I've never come across such a very unique post on slashdot such as yours filled with truths and dispelling a few myths all in one submission. It was a healthy read but I read it all and will take it with me for the rest of my life. The proof is in the pudding as to whether other people will take heed of your words as well. Kudo to you my man. Might I suggest you don't watch television either, also don't you find it ironic that you're so well spoken and articulate considering it has been TV that has driven you to post.

Why waste an expensive controller on such low powered devices? FW is overkill. Instead you see FW on bus powered hard drives (have you found a 2.5" 7200 rpm drive running solely off USB2 for example?), HD video cameras, professional SLR's, inside F-22 and F-35 fighter aircraft and there are thumb drives on the market with firewire as well.

  6. Re:1394 For Life on Clash of the Titans Over USB 3.0 Specification Process · · Score: 5, Informative

How is this modded interesting, all the geeks know that FW 400 is still faster than USB 2.0 because 480mbps is theoretical and not an actual constant transfer speed like with FW400. Firewire is processor independent as well since it has its own controller whereas the main CPU is used to control USB 2, that means its transfer rate is dependent on system performance. Everything else in your post isn't bollocks though.

Before reading your post I was wondering if I would be reading a comment that would mention 10.1 and make the comparison and then suggest that we should receive some sort of discount because of no new features. If you think this 10.6 release only provides 'additional stability and developer tools' then you're half right since Apple state themselves that there will be no end user features. Well done on pointing out the obvious! You're not thinking about the second layer of ground work being developed here that will springboard us into a healthy looking 10.7 and .8 release. I think its insulting to only want to pay $20 for something which will provide current Intel machines with a refinement of OSX's technologies. At the moment I have a MB with 4 of RAM and a huge capacity HD with a 7200rpm drive, my only upgrades are a SSD or a faster operating, my only options before buying a whole machine. I would be glad to pay full price if it means not buying a new computer in 3 years time because of the streamlining of OSX taking place. This isn't a 10.1 people and Apple knows that. If you don't want to pay for some polish then wait for the shiny to come in 10.7, its not like Apple take 5 years to release a new version of their operating like some companies do.

Why is it that wind turbines aren't augmented with solar panels on them? I'm talking either in the base stem or actually on the blades, seems like a no brainer in so much that you save space and it would be useful for the those areas which are windy and sunny. I don't mean to suggest that their power generating capabilities are linked either, just why can't they take up the same space and whatever energy either of the technologies generate can be fed into that country's electrical grid.
