TThis is true
If only people knew more history, they woult not call this country Macedonia.
For the love of God! This is a Slavic people that move to the land that once belonged to Macedonia, and appropriated the history and cultore of Macedonia.
They don't know Greek (not even greek based language) they don't have Greek names, they are not related to Macedonia in no other way, except occupying formerly Macedonian ground.
What is even worse is that they are trying to explain Macedonian history in Slavic terms (as if the ancient Macedonians of Alexander were Slavs). We have in front of us the biggest effort to falsify history. One that would make George Orwell very pround.
The only reason most people still know it as Macedonia is because that they don't care enough to find out.
But please note that the US Goverment officialy refers to "macedonia" as FYROM, which is a temporary name enforced by he UN until thre can be a final resolution.
Incidentally, i am in the print industry.
What i am talking about is not due for next year, maybe even for the next decade. But it *is* going to happen.
Yes, many people don't like reading in monitors. So what? The younger generation has no problem with it.
And their kids even less.
You see my point?
The reason many don't use the Internet excusively is because they don't know, are used to paper, don't have the resources, etc etc.
It's not going to stay like that forever you know.
And,indeed people have been predicting the death of printed material and instead, print and paper has *increased*.
That certainly does not mean that in the future, newspapers and 'information sources' will not by severely (probably fatally) affected by the Internet.
Exactly.
I stopepd buying magazines after i got hooked with interesting Internet content. Yes *even* slashdot:)
You want pr0n? you've got it.
You want funny stuff? Clicks way.
you want information? Not only do you have the kind you are looking for but you can get it much less 'filtered' than you otherwise would.
My point is that the Internet is killing the newpaper/magazine industry. It's only us, the geeks, for now, but it is surely going to spread.
The big problem for them is that i can get the same stuff (usually better) from the Internet *for free*. Which means that they can just say: "Hey, let's make an on-line edition of our magazine" and save themselves. They have to provide content that i can't get elsewere.
Its sad really.
This game has indeed received great reviews. From people who know and love adventures. The review on JustAdventure is one of them. Go see, how they rate other classic adventures.
And then some guy who writes for 1UP.com ( which means he is a fan of the age that has replaced the adventure era) sharply criticizes the game... it makes Slashdot news.
How sad.
Adventure games are beyond Graphics. Graphics are not the thing that 'defines' this genre (as it would for FPS for example). And yet we see a comment made by this critic , mocking an image saying "There are at least 1000 polygons in this scene". This should have given most readers away that this guy is all about action/graphics FPS and the likes. He probably would give any game that isn't Sonic the Hedgehog a bad grade.
There are still people who enjoy a good adventure, even for all the shortcomings (eg Graphics.)
As for the houmor in the Game, i have to say that either he is houmor impaired or he has never played another adventure before (on almost ALL adventure you have an invenotry the size of a small truck. And yet he criticizes this game?)
As for the name Nionios, it is a short for Dionysios (like the God Dionysos) and is meant as houmor.
Uhm..

Yes variation.
Please listen to the following groups:
Crimson Glory (the first two albums)
Therion
Apocalyptica
Arcturus (la masquerade infernale)
Tristania
Solitude Aeturnus
Paradise Lost (Draconian Times)
Type O Negative
Nightwish
i am not including 'extreme' death/black metal groups because i don't like them.
If that still sound the same to you then you have a serious problem.
I am not saying you have to like it just understand the variation.
I may not be a big fan of many kinds electronic music (such as dance, house, modern 'trance' etc) but i simply love the works of Future Sound of London, or Sven Vath). This is because i understand their difference.
I suppose that to you that's "all the bleeping sounds that the composer knew were on his synthesizer".
I am sick of this trollish argument.
1) If you don't like choice, use one and be done with it.
2) If you think that QT vs GTK buttons etc, are too confusing, then use a distro (like Mandrake) that has a default skin that makes the destinction almost disappear.
But more to the point. The problem is that the buttons have slightly different shapes in some applications and *that's* the reason you don't use Linux?
It's more like an article (even though it sa commentary in the title) and, most importantly, it's written by ESR
However, Brown's comment are completely misleading.
What ESR talks about is the security 'strenghening' that happens when software of extreme importance like the IOS has been exposed to many eyes (included the hacker/cracker community).
He says that the theft could potentially bring a be the source of many new exploits that would have been discovered and corrected in on OSS software.
The comment that Brown uses ("maybe the theft will be a good enough reason for Cisco customers to check out open source alternatives...) actually means that given the problems that could arise from this theft, many corporations may choose a product that has been developed with a differrent method.
Brown's whole article is full of errors and clear attempts to misinform and confuse.
This, however, is for other to respond to.
My favorite part is his response to (tannembaum's) comment that Brown is not the "not the sharpest knife in the drawer". He say (among othe things) that: "but nevertheless is able to converse with many intelligent people, and is accepted at fine restaurants and hotels around the world."
As far as integrated GUI building , i only know of BOA constructor (which uses WxWidgets).
However, if easy GUI building is what you are looking for, then i may suggest PyQT. This is the Python binding for the QT toolkit. You can use 'designer' to build your GUI (the XML file) and then the PyQT tools to create Python code.
Easy, fast, clean.
You can find documentation here
Then use the editor of your choice for the rest.
You could always try Kdevelop which has support for Python (and QT Python apps).
Are you *sure* this is in England and not in South Park Colorado?

What? You can most certainly run a program as root on an X session that is runnning as another user.
All you need is for root to have the magic cookie of your session.
So what you are saying is that when i was using Windows i belonged to the 99% of ignorant users, but by switching to Linux i isntantly became a Unix wizard?
Because i DID have many problems as a Windows user that were almost impossible to pin down, and a re-install would solve. But when i switched to Linux i never had any problem.
I think that the biggest problem with Windows is the damned Windows registry. This is a good idea (as a concept at least. Like communism) the was turned into the 3 headed monster that eats users for breakfast. (like the Soviet Union)
Well, you could always set up MySQL and read/write from a Calc (openoffice) spreadsheet.
Then you can use somthing like PhpCodeGenie to create some simple webforms for view/change/delete etc.
Maybe tinker with them a little so that they do the job...
But obviously, this is far from trivial (although not at all difficult for a Geek).
Dear lmpinto,
If the above post was made as a reflex response, like correcting something that "want's right" then you have been spending too much time on slashdot
I know because it took large amounts of effort to push the submit button without adding the "insnsitive clod" myself.
Well, I do live in the US, and I can plainly tell you that whatever news source is telling you that criticizing Bush is "to be avoided" is full of BS. You have a God-given right to criticize the government and no one can change that.
Ok, that is known. The problem is, are people 'using' that right or are they too afraid to do so? (they have interest not to, or being characterized unamerican so on)
If you don't believe me, just pull up a tape of Michael Moore's speech at the Oscars.
Well, i would expect a better example. Moore is under serious attack for what he is saying. I mean take a look at Slashdot, or all those www.moore-is-a-big-bastard-and-we-wish-he-would-di e.org websites. And his latest movie can not be distributed to US cinemas as far as i know.
So if this is what someone criticizing Bush should expect, then it verifies the theory that it is something to be avoided.
In fact, in the interview on the DVD of Bowling for Columbine he says very clearly that he is not the right person for the job, and that he expects journalists and more educated persons to do this criticism. But, since nothing like that happens, and almost all journalists are too afraid or too comfortable to criticize and tell the truth, he has taken it upon himself to do this.
I don't live in the US, so i can verify his claims. From what i read and hear, however, it does seem that criticism against Bush is generally regarded as not a wise move, and is to be avoided.
So, saying that Moore's works are not documentaries is not really a revelation that 'uncovers his true face', since he himself admits that there are flaws in his works.
Hey, you could better than that.
I like it more when people really overdo the number of lawyers IBM could ever have.
Something like:
They will hide the sun
or: They could burry SCO under 10% of dead IBM layers. No need for courts.
or: IBM lawyers are so many that IBM keeps 90% of them in cryogenic chambers for future use.
or: IBM's uses so many lawyers that several small countries are now under contract to provide lawyers to IBM.
or: IBM lawyers are so many that they refer to them by serial number
I'm sure you can come up with better.
Here in Greece it is illegal for the IRS (the Greek version obviously) to even *touch* your computer, let alone take it.
They alway tell someone "show us this" and "Show us that".
this is because you can claim that they tampered it, in an effort to harm/collect more/frame you/whatever.
I know this because both my sisters are acocuntants and they've been taught this at the University.
I do not know what the situation is with the police, however, but i assume that similar reasoning would apply.
