I believe this is the part in the movie where they ask "In English please?" and then someone else provides a dumbed-down explanation so that you can understand with no learning required on your part.
Not that I like Bill or his business tactics, but to be fair to him, isn't it true that the B&MG Foundation has donated a few billion dollars to worthy causes?
No, that's not true. Because of Microsoft's business practices, that money belongs to you, your family, friends, and neighbors. It's your misappropriated money which is going to good causes. Every time somebody buys a bare-bones PC without an operating system yet still pays for Windows it is, in part, that person's money which is getting funneled into the B&MG Foundation.
The funny thing about it is that nobody would get fooled. "Hole in OpenSSH? Obviously an April Fools joke." Had it been an article about a new Sendmail exploit, people would be saying "Oh, crap... you had me there. That's just not funny! I thought I'd be spending all Saturday patching."

The grandparent was mentioning companies which use OpenSSH. The proper comparison, then, is operating systems that have incorporated BSD code vs. operating systems which have incorporated Linux code. From that perspective, Windows and OS X have both used BSD code more than they've used Linux code. And given that those are the most popular operating systems today, I'd say your argument is the one lacking.
Simple... just put up your own quasar, brighter and more energetic than the real one. The difference is that you control the entropy, so you can always read their messages.
But given that it's the money they want and not the code, GPL wouldn't help in this instance. Unless of course they dual license it, in which case they simply put a price tag on the freedom and sell out once somebody pays enough.
Any sort of torch, assuming it provides its own oxygen, would either contaminate the air in the spacecraft, or if use outside, have the potential to apply thrust and move the craft off course.
I think you'd only have to worry about the thrust issue if you're okay with losing astronauts when they do welding. Assuming no astronauts are lost, the whole equal-and-opposite-reaction thing pretty much takes care of that problem.

don't call it dust, call it the fines
Pedantically speaking, one would call it "fines", not "the fines".
I've dealt with plenty 'black box' system running windows underneath where they shut you out entirely and you end up with infected nodes that you can't fix and have to wait till the vendor does. That's when its time to find a new vendor.
How's that a Windows problem? You could have a vendor supply you with a Linux system that you don't have admin rights to and, if they don't patch critical security holes, you're still screwed.
... if you ever want to rip it back into some compressed format, you're going to lose quality.
Yeah, no shit. You could record a live performance of the world's best symphony orchestra. If you record it into a compressed (lossy) format, you're going to lose quality.
Before leaving the factory, the platters on every single enterprise class drive receive extensive testing. That is why SCSIs still have a 5 year warranty from Seagate, because every single drive has been tested and meets certain criteria.
In case you weren't aware, Seagate's SATA drives also come with 5 year replacement warranties.
What are they going to do? Fine them? - it is already well known that you can not fine them enough to make it feasible for them to stop these practices. MS has moved above the law of any land. I feel the only hope is OSS as a groundswell, this the only way to solve the current software stagnation that is around today.
A splendid example of someone smoking the open source crackpipe. What are "these practices" you wish to stop? Selling an office suite, the components of which you can purchase separately? Or selling a server operating system with built-in directory services? I suppose you think OpenOffice.org shouldn't include different components, and that Open Directory must be a separate download when setting up a new server?
There once was a geek with some time To write a few poems that did rhyme But he butchered the meter And then didn't delete 'er Since he was apparently wholly unable to count the number of syllables on a line.
Anyone know Xen compares to jails in, say, FreeBSD? I've managed to setup a jail before where you do a "make world DESTDIR=/jaildir" and then do a jail on that directory, which gives someone the appearance of their own entire operating system. Is Xen similar to this, but allowing for many different operating systems rather than just another instance of the same one?
Also, glad to see the BSD section is at least still around. I can't seem to get it to show up on the Sections list, regardless of how I set it up.
What if the argument were turned around? Maybe Skype was planning to offer only 5 person conference calls, but Intel sponsored 10 person conference calls on Intel chips?
Deep Space Radar Telemetry huh....

Days like today are the reason you can tag articles with "bullshit". :)

Should have believed Stallman...

Well, for starters there's this neat thing called money...

How about we realize that, in this case, CNet is just a shill for the Microsoft PR department.
The statement in question was from the summary: "... because the company has historically only supported Intel processors."
That's a real shame. It would have been great to see the one millionth article be about one million articles.
Thus, it's not recruiting - although some homosexuals do recruit, witness the common fetish many gay men have for straight men - but it is targeting.
I find some lesbians really hot. Does that mean I'm recruiting and targeting them into my straight lifestyle?

No kidding... I've always wondered about that too. What if the guy had downloaded The Shaggs song My Pal Foot Foot?

You used the word putz. Referring to whale penises is always catchy.
