  1. Re:Please... on Windows 98 Phased Out · · Score: 1

And, in some cases, people have fairly new and actually quite decent hardware, but when they try to use that hardware under XP, nothing gives. Like, oh, my video card(a GeForce 4 Ti4600) that I can't seem to get to work properly under XP. Even the WQHL drivers from nVidia don't work right under it; in fact, my box claims that they're not WQHL cert. So, I'm stuck on my 98 copy, unless I want to use that (formerly) expensive graphics card as a 2D card.

Such a bleak outlook.. Perhaps if you tried for a more positive look on things. What America needs right now is an upbeat agenda, a presidential candidate that doesn't make the other side look bad, but instead says that this is how he wants the country to be like, and what he would do to make it happen. That's what I seem to miss in presidential elections, not the dissing, but the visionaries, the ones who say, "I hope for a better tomorrow."

I don't post here often, nor do I generally take part in discussions, but I am appalled at Slashdot's lack of sympathy. Instead of giving a buck or two, maybe even five, we have people saying it's worthless(their opinion, not mine, and I don't believe anything is completely worthless), complaining that it's not an authoritative encyclopedia, and many other things. I went through trying to see how many people gave how much... I could only find 175 dollars, and 100 of those were given by a single generous individual! This article has over 600 posts. Averaged, that's about 30 cents. Come on, Slashdot, it's a community effort, and in that it's no different from open source or even Slashdot itself. Community efforts are always an interesting experiment, and I believe this deserves a go at it. We're always harping on free speech, and then turning our collective backs on a utility that allows us free speech, and a chance to change the world a little. A dollar or two from a thousand Slashdotters would provide 1/20th or 1/10th of the amount they're looking for, and if 500 slashdotters gave 5 dollars, that would be 2,500! Say, would anyone like to find out the total dollar amount that's been given thus far?

Just imagine how much easier it would be to be a librarian with RFID tags... granted, you have the privacy issues of them knowing what you read, but that's not really the RFID's fault.. you check out the books anyway. And if you're worried about warRFIDing, put up tinfoil. Anybody who's that paranoid would be bound to have a lot of tinfoil :)

First off, for distribution, why not take the file, reverse all the bits, and distribute that? IANAH(acker) so I don't know what reversing all the bits of a song would do, but I'm willing to assume that it changes the song profile a bit. Then, on the client side, you take the bits and reverse the bits back. That changes the distributing of the copyright(what is distributed is not the original song) and leaves the infringement back to the end user, for possessing it.
    Rant #2:
Isn't scanning a computer for illegal files exactly like going to somebody's house and looking through the windows? Or opening their front door and looking but not touching? That's intrusion on private property, if I may say so myself(IANAL). And end rant #2.

My physical body is in America... but really, there are places I'd prefer to be where my heart is. Canada, where are you? Am I allowed to pass through the Iron Border? Or does America have to seize my computer at the border for illegal MP3s, PGP encryption, movie trailers and more?
I can't stand the way the USG is handling this. If Americans would stand up for their rights instead of being in a stupor over "terrorism", we could get our hard-earned rights back. One of my Canadian friends from online has called me an honorary Canadian and is offering me safe haven should the USG ever come after me lol.
Enough rambling... go talk to friends and more, print out pamphlets, write your Congresscritters, do something constructive towards repealing and destroying these evil policies.
