not the point whether they give away their product or charge. they are costing people money in bandwidth charges to prescan web sites.

TFA isn't really clear on what AVG is looking at, so don't know exactly what they are scanning for in the pages.... i hope its the HTML and links in it. here's an idea. grisoft/AVG can have this one from me for free: how about they scan the users page and files as they are loaded into the computer. you know, WHEN THEY CLICK ON A PAGE OR DOWNLOAD A FILE, maybe scan the file in _realtime_ as it loads. that way they aren't generating fake traffic and costing people who don't use AVG extra bandwidth costs. maybe i should patent that idea so no other AV company can use it?

also as ISPs start charging per megabyte/gigabyte, this 'feature' won't be all that interesting.

i found it easiest to tell em my name was "jim john joe billybob" and my address was 123 A St. and make up a phone number with the local area code. then complain if they thought it was hokey. i wonder if jim john joe billybob ever got all those catalogues???

I guess I don't understand all the WD bashing. They do have warranties, you know, and I hear they even honor them. i've had far too many crap out. i cant count the dead caviars i had to deal with when this school i did some contract work for used them. 30% failure in 2 classrooms by year end. my old roommate insisted on getting one a few years ago and didnt look too closely and got a WD with a 90 day warranty. i could never buy a HD with a 3 month warranty. they offered a 3 year extension sucker bet inside the package which was around 1/2 the cost of the drive. just buy a better drive with a better warranty IMO.

i guess their stuff is better now, but meh.... too much bad history to even think about it.
