Jesus christ, do you actually believe the dribbel your spouting?
This isn't about semantics, this is about you being a dick who can't understand that different people have different tastes, and then somehow thinking that your tastes are superior to everybody elses.
YOU'RE WRONG. There is no ultimate way to decide if something is good or bad. Yes, there might be a general consensus among people, but it is all opinion. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having an opinion, and I can't fault you for having one. What I CAN fault you for is judging other people based on their personal tastes.
Grow the hell up and realize that you are not cool just because you like different things than most people out there. I don't know whats more pathetic, the fact that you actually believe what you're saying, or the fact that at one point your original post was up to +5 insightful indicating that other people shared the same short-sightedness.
Wow, how in the hell did this elitist crap get modded up +4 insightful? Mods, you've been trolled HARD.
That's really fantastic that you don't like what they are making. You get a cookie for "going against the man".
Now get off your bloody high horse and realize that not everybody has the same elitist tastes as you do and that to the vast majority of people, the "Entertainment Industry" actually makes some things they enjoy.
Who cares what these numbnuts do? Well, apparently you do. If you didn't care you would just enjoy watching what you watch, and let people enjoy their own entertainment without judging them for it. I doubt these people are sitting at home getting all pissed off while they watch the latest Hollywood release thinking "the sooner suckmysav stops watching that indie crap the better"
I would recommend checking out Mudconnect for starters. Try some of the many fre available MUDS (they have it broken down by genre.
The good (and bad) thing about most MUDS out there is that they are all based off the same worlds and engines, so a lot of the knowledge is transferable from one MUD to the next. But the good ones go out of their way to make theirs unique.
If you want top quality, there are pay to play MUDS like Gemstone III and Dragonrealms (both by Simutronics, and no I don't work for them). I've played those since they both came out and I can honestly say it is totally worth the money and they'd get my credit card number over Sony any day of the week.
Ok, since I'm having trouble understanding this apparently, please explain how you don't make money off the ads on the website. Isn't that the whole point of having the ads? And I don't want the article as a file ad free, I wanted you post the original link to a page that had the article ad free. But you can't go back in time so perhaps just keep that in mind for your next submission.
Did you even read my post? I told you exactly what would have helped. Post a link to the article on a page without ads. You say you don't make money off the ad traffic, but I really fail to see how an increase in viewers to pages with ads does NOT make you money off of ad traffic.
"i'm honestly not trolling for hits, i'm trying to write cool stuff i think people will like and find useful. that said, i realize some people are up to no good, so it causes any reasonable person to be skeptical about any post."
You know, you COULD give us a sign of good faith. You could for example provide a link on engadget to a page with ZERO ads on it, showing you receive no direct monetary benefit from posting this "cool and useful" stuff. I think putting your money where your mouth is would satisfy a lot of people on here who think you're just trolling for hits.
One of the pitfalls of every MMORPG I can think of is maximizing time in order to advance. Every action to advance your character requires you to think of the most efficient way of doing things.
This does not sound very fun, and aside from social aspects, what gameplay features do you plan on implementing to make sure CoH strays away from this rut that every MMORPG has thusfar fallen into?
I have a great interest in language (and dialects) and am currently teaching myself Japanese and then Dutch (I pick the easy ones right?) and I've always thought that if I were to just learn their language with materials from grade schools and stuff like that, it would be much easier to learn. Think about it, remember all those dumb little rules about language you learn when you're little? Well, you learn that in grade school, with materials geared for children. The "teach yourself japanese" stuff out there does not address things in as simple a manner, which really is best to do if its a completely alien way of thinking (order of japanese sentences compared to english).
I wonder if one day when they can make "brain software" if they'll be able to translate this concept into software to help us learn native languages.
Perhaps a more practical present use for it would be to create an automatic language deciphering device, much like you would see on Star Trek.
This is what will make Augmented Reality devices mainstream.
Once cellphones became compact, well-designed and a social accessory, they went mainstream much faster than they could have if they weren't.
People are much more accepting of new technology when it appeals to their eye, and looks like something they'd be familiar with. Luckily glasses are familiar, and thin headsets are starting to be what with bluetooth earpieces and stuff like that.
We just need someone like Apple to come along and come out with something people will want to buy. Once the consumer money is behind it, it could take off in ways the MIT Media Lab never invisioned.
Can someone please comment on the time required to actually advance in the game?
I'm a senior in college and about to enter the work world where I will not have much time to play. I enjoy MMORPGs, but they were too big of a time sink for me to get anywhere so I didn't enjoy them.
Oddly enough, I enjoyed UO because of the trade skill system, so perhaps people can comment on that as well.
Is it just put X items in bag and combine? Or do you have to go to the cave, mine the ore, smelt it, and forge it etc?
What you want is a MMOFPS, much like Planetside except well....not sucky. There is a large split in gamers where one group wants to have unrivaled abilities if they put the time into it, and one group wants their actual skill to determine the outcome.
Which almost makes you wonder...how often to the designers decide "well, its not THAT big of an issue, because someone else will make a product to fix it, and we'll be able to get licensing fees or something like that out of them anyways"
I wouldn't doubt the DS. Nintendo has a consistent history with its portables of announcing VERY conservative estimates for battery life, wireless range, etc, and then far exceeding them. Which if you think about it, makes sense from a marketing standpoint because people get a pleasant surprise rather than an unpleasant one, and its not like the numbers Nintendo offers are bad even though they're conservative. As it is now they're still better than the PSP numbers.
So what it ultimately comes down to is that Sony is most likely overestimating theirs based on their track record, and Nintendo is most likely underestimating theirs.
Look at the way the story is posted and look at the language. As someone in marketing/advertising, I feel pretty safe saying that this is written like a press release and is most likely put out by the company in question.

Well, hate to burst your bubble, but on the internet pretty much all of the "hot goth chicks" you will meet will present the same problem.
That implies that it actually finished beta-testing...
You know....battleaxes....great helms....shields.....no bows though, dwarves don't need no damn archers.
