No kidding. I think there's a huge shift going on where games industry editors have lost a LOT of credibility, and fans are noticing.
For all the other issues they have, the NY Times has at least been good about mentioning the background of someone if it might cause some conflicting interests. Game review editors could learn something from them on journalistic integrity. God, never thought I'd be saying THAT.
Here's a novel idea for them. Instead of wasting lots of money on lawyers and further damaging your relationship with your crimi...err....customers, why don't you invest that money in R&D and try to come up with a way to GIVE US WHAT WE BLOODY WANT?!
As shown by the success of iTunes and Netflix, people want their damn media WHEN they want it, HOW they want it, and CHEAPER than what you're currently charging.
Sorry if you feel that movies should cost that much...but frankly the market is saying otherwise.
Because when something becomes more easily available, the decision of whether to watch it or not becomes a lot simpler.
When you have sites like Suprnova up where every single tv show, movie, game, app, etc is but a click away (and a few hours of downloading), many people think, "hey, its there, its free, and if i like it I might buy it, if not I've saved myself some money"
So its not so much that there's now an intense desire to grab the movie (well, in some cases there is a HUGE desire, but I'm talking about the "shitty" ones), its that there's less reasons NOT to watch the bad ones.
Before nobody watched bad movies in theaters because they didn't want to waste $8. They would just rent it instead for $3. Now they can just check it out for free.
Just a tip in advance, ignore any postings by the guy spamming his DSLinux website.
He created the account for the sole purpose of doing that (as shown by his only posts being in the DS discussion yesterday where he spammed his website). He has no actual work on there, and is asking the community to do it for him (and create his logo) in exchange for $1000 which he is most likely getting from ad revenue and from the pre-order commission links on his website.
So, just trying to prevent this guy from getting more clicks than he already has last time he spammed, as it seems likely that he will again this time, most likely under a different uid.
"2) If you are a shareholder of SCO, you could bring an action against the board of directors, personally as individuals and in their role as directors, and probably McBride and other "wayward" executives. The basis for this would be that the management of SCO is doing things that are actually against its shareholders' best interests (as confirmed by the miserable performance of SCO stock), and thus violating securities regulations."
So let me get this straight, all you would need to do to fit this category is buy a single share of SCO stock? Hmmm......lets see.....
One share of SCOX - $3.50
Price of litigation - $0.00 (contingency basis)
Going down in history as the geek who finally called SCO on their shit, and got its execs put behind bars? Priceless.
As long as they let me skip through these voice-acted dialogues, I could care less.
The thing that has always appealed to me about subtitles is that most of the games using them let you fastforward through them. The other benefit is that you can scan them for the information you need, and quickly go through, which you can't easily do with voice.
Ok, I understand the purpose of sending the takedown notices. They have special deals with those affiliates whereby they pay for exclusive distribution of the trailer.
But Lucas, don't be dicks about sending takedown notices. Your trailer WILL get distributed via other methods, and you should be FUCKING GRATEFUL FOR IT. We're using our own bandwidth (or our schools hehehehe ssshhh) and saving you precious PR dollars with a word of mouth campaign you could never match in a million years with all your greedily earned millions.
I say its about time Lucas shows some fucking appreciation for their fans.
I think by now we can safely say its time to retire the "sharks with laser beams" joke. Its gone the way of AYBABTU and Overlord jokes, so please, no more. It was never even that funny to begin with. I don't say this to troll, I'm just asking nicely.
I disagree. Ask to be transferred to a manager, but only after you've gotten the employees information, whatever you can get. Name, employee ID, whatever. You should get that at the VERY BEGINNING of the conversation. Then if they fail to satisfy you in any way (well, almost any way), ask to speak to a manager and if they refuse to put him on, just say "well, you can either get someone above you on the phone right now, or I'll be calling back later and informing the on-duty manager that (insert phone monkey name here) was very rude, and unhelpful and that you might have considered keeping the account, but that they made you lose any desire whatsoever.
When the person on the phone has a vested interest in keeping you happy, its amazing how many hoops they will jump through.
And of course immediately after getting the persons info, I would simply say, "I'm cancelling my account, I don't want an extension, I don't want to use my remaining time, I have no interest in continuing my service and I don't want to listen to any spiel you may have to try to convince me otherwise."
If they don't, thats when you ask for the manager.
I say mod this down. According to your site, you aren't porting anything. You have a message on the webpage asking people to port it for you and you'll offer them $1000. (and you have the same request for a logo)
Now, I'm just going out on a limb here when I say that you're probably getting that $1000 from the preorder links and Google adwords on your website. And since you don't have any REAL content on your site that isn't rehashing what this story just told us, I don't really see how it is at all valuable to spam the link here except to generate you page hits and ad revenue.
Not to mention the fact that this is a newly created user id and your only posts are on this story spamming your dslinux website.
Um....ok, pretend I want to buy it, but I'm really a fed. How will they know when they try to collect? This seems like it would be mind boggling easy to catch them red handed, so if there's an angle I'm missing on this someone please fill me in.
This has nothing to do with marketing at all. This is them not wanting to deal with pissed customers when the supply of DS's is unable to meet the demand of preorders.
Great, thanks a lot for slashdotting Suprnova guys.
So far Suprnova has really managed to escape the mass media, I wonder what sort of protection they have to handle the legal issues. Aren't they based out of the US and use proxies?
My point was that people don't want to have to recharge the batteries in their main computer speakers. I have a home theater speaker setup for my computer, and I wouldn't have even considered them if I had to recharge batteries inside them. The goal of this is to make LESS hastle, not more.
Wireless speakers would be fine, but they would need to address some VERY important issues first.
First, I'm assuming that the speakers would still have a power cord, and thus still technically be "wired", but if they didn't have a power cord, batteries would be a big issue.
Second, and most importantly for any audiophiles out there, what happens to the sound quality? God knows how much money is spent on expensive speaker cables, so what happens when it goes wireless?
You fail to make a valid point. I was saying everybody is entitled to their own tastes, just not thinking their tastes are better than someone elses, because taste is personal.
You are not better than someone just because you like different things, you're just different.
I remember a while back there was a big deal about the number of customers AOL had been reporting. Seems they weren't taking into account customers who had signed up and then quit the service. So they'd just keep a cumulative tally of all who joined without ever taking people off.
If there was ever a franchise that was destined to be milked in this regard in Japan, this would be it. Can't say I'm surprised about it, just shocked that it took this long.
What's next, all our medical records will start being outsour....oh wait...
*Note to self: That wasn't as funny on the screen as it was in your head.

If thats the case, I don't think the statement in the summary is accurate as it does not currently reflect Nokia's product offering.

Its bad enough that CDRs and DVDs degrade over time, but now this? I want media that LASTS LONGER and will protect my data over time.

I call spammer on you.

I think SCO would beg to differ...

Does anybody know if this is still happening?
