You must be kidding? Every company of any size hires EE's? For what, changing lightbulbs?
Hate to break it to you but unless you are planning on doing a Masters or more in EE you might as well assume you won't be doing any "EE type stuff" (circuit, power, antenna design).
"So what? Let's say that some young woman believes her boyfriend has given her an STD. She is poor and cannot afford a computer at home, so she goes to research female sexual health online in the library. Unfortunately such a pornographic site as this is blocked, the young woman would have to go and ask the librarian to remove filtering so she can research her "problem""
Maybe she could go and get a BOOK and READ IT in the library? Oh wait, all the books on female sexuality are checked out. Right. Comon, this decision is just and correct.
Actually it looks as though SCO DOES have a case potentially. They apparently showed an example file with code with the EXACT same code, comments and variable names. As Ian said, that doesn't prove that the Linux code was copied - however unless SCO is lying or mistaken, it most certainly was. as ACO said, that will come out as a finding in the court case.
I don't know how anyone here can reasonably think that SCO might not have a case. It is certainly feasible that source code leaked from one system to another. There is no way that Linus checks every code checkin to make sure it is "clean."
Er yeah. Unfortunately that isn't what the author is saying. All he is saying is that the unconscious decision is best because the ISV has effectively chosen to support the platform and it doesn't occur to the ISV to consider any other platform. I don't know where you get the inference that the purchaser has endorsed the policies and practices of Microsoft.
Of course, this is a stupid statement - ISV's do consider other platforms when making decisions, but they reject them for economic reasons.
"Also, when we got to some of the book's more in depth assignments, they would no longer fit on floopy disks. OK, no big deal. I'd just burn them onto a 29 cent CD-R. Nope. For some reason her computer system wasn't setup to where she could accept CD's. So I'll just do things the hard way and use WinZip disk spanning. Nope, can't do that either"
Wow, so no one in the class was able to turn in any of these in depth assignments, so you all got C's? Or was it just you?
My Win2k solution already downloaded and installed the update last night automatically via WindowsUpdate.com. Nice system.
Good AI is always just 20 years away.
Timothy,
Spend less time watching movies and more time being productive.

I know, I have an EE.
lol. AOL has "kindly" given you 2 million to start you off in the independent route?
Corps don't give money away. Your foundation is not independent when 95% of the funding comes from a single entity...
I think its a bad idea. I would rather people go to the stores and buy the CD's. That way we make billions. Why mess with a good thing?

Nice. Are you the dude that modded me down? Nice. It is NOT A HACK. Mod me down, but it is the truth.
If his ISP was poisioned then he would be hacked. His ISP wasnt poisioned.
Oh please. Someone "noticed you getting a book and reading it"? Christ, now you guys are stretching.
I love it. I get a flamebait mod.
" but who gets to decide what is offensive and what isn't"
The people who we trust to run the libraries get to decide. Are you interested in deciding? If so, get a job or volunteer with the system.

This is a good decision. Children should NOT be allowed to access everything on the Internet.
:-)
After all we don't allow them to access pornographic or other offensive material in the libraries, and the blocked internet sites are no different.
Oh and spare me the arguments about all the kids wanting to do breast cancer research and getting blocked by the software...

You were not hacked. You have spyware on your computer. Good lord.
Hi,
The President doesn't impose tarriffs. That is not his job.
Thank You.
I know SOMEONE would drag Microsoft into this. Can we stop the obsession here guys???
Maybe IBM believes that SCO's actions have some merit? Maybe they are preparing their defense first?
Guys, the Senators don't think of these ideas. Their ideas are proposed by aides, consultants and lobbyists.
Do you really think Senators sit around and think up ideas all day? When would they have time for meetings and golf?

Of course it is. Its always Microsoft around here. What an obsession you guys have. I even got a -1 Overrated moderation. How interesting.
Yeah....its all Microsoft. I heard they deal drugs too to preschool children.
"Is there a country were[sic] people will work for free?"
Yeah, many of them. Haven't you heard of Open Source?
Don't work for the corporations for free. Support Open Standards, not Open Source.

"I'm going to a university in Minnesota for a Mass Communications degree"
:-))
Dude, what were you expecting? Minnesota. Mass Communications degree.
"How many people do you know who are stupendously competent, but have little in the way of formal certifications?"
Hmmm, I can't think of any. How about you?
I think you need to learn exactly what DOES "run" the internet. Cisco/Juniper routers. Unix and NT boxes.
Hard to believe for the slashdot crowd but the internet doesn't run on linux.
