Those CDs can only be burned so quickly, though, and they can only be distributed so quickly. I know they're better than nothing, but you'd have to grab a new one each month at least.
You'd be amazed how quickly a Winbox can get hit by malware. I just had to disinfect my parents' computer, and here's what happened:
Over the last couple days, Google Toolbar lost effectiveness, and popups were coming up on sites like Microsoft and Google (spyware, anyone?) I booted it, and got a PCCillin warning saying "VBS_Freelink" was detected. Scan, and nothing. I hit it with Spybot, and it finds a small amount of spyware, some from the Kodak camera software. I then try to diagnose the virus, and get Avast. Still nothing. I go to get AdAware, and I'm getting popups EVERY PAGE LOAD. I remembered I had an old copy of Opera on there, and fired it up to download AdAware and do the search for solutions. AdAware found ~250 items (!), one of which appeared to be a DLL of the virus that started the chain of problems... (on reboot, I got an error message from the virus that a DLL was missing, and PCCillin didn't give the warning, even though I had done a signature update)
I live in the US, and that's what I use. Simple enough to figure out (OK, he put the year first), and not confusing (to Americans) like 14-05-2004 (there have been many/. articles that were called as old news when it was released the day before because of this).
Here's what I think it all is (correct me if I'm wrong):
A worm is self-propagating, and can have destructive effects.
A virus is nearly self-propagating (propagates each time only with user intervention), and has a payload, usually destructive.
A trojan horse does not usually propagate, and masquerades as a useful program.
However, it's possible to have a trojan virus - that is, a trojan horse with a payload of a virus. It's essentially a trojan horse with replication behaviors of a virus.
I think it's quite possible, if the computers he used at work were as insecure as the ones at my school. I know many people use *insert default search engine here*, or if they do use Google, they'll click on a result that is one of those "search engines" that point to pr0n, spyware, and scams that wasn't what was looked for. Add that to the fact that they've made the public share not so public (it was mostly used for Opera, and a few games), and now almost everyone uses Internet Explorer. Insecure IE, and Google Toolbar won't install w/o an admin password. ARRGH!
I'm tempted to grab my old P233MMX box and make it a Samba server once it gets replaced by a Duron 1.8GHz. Anyone got suggestions for a good premade distro, as in throw-it-on-give-it-a-hostname-and-you've-got-a-Sa mba-server?
Last time I did that, it just meant it listed every driver it started as it went into Safe Mode, and then fired up the GDI (in case you haven't used Windows, think X, the window manager, and CUPS).
The 386 WAS slower than a 286 - many people claim that a 286/25 was on par with a 386/40. Also note that the 386 was designed BEFORE the 286, and the 286 was designed because the market wasn't ready for the 386. Also, from what I heard, the Pentium was slower than the 486. The Pentium Pro was by nature slower than the Pentium, but its 32-bit optimizations pushed it past the Pentium - but since everyone ran old 16-bit apps, it seemed slower. Look at where that architecture's gone though - it's made it to 2.0GHz, and 2.4GHz overclocked, from a humble beginning at 133 (not 150) MHz. The Pentium ramped to 233MHz (a 266MHz OC was really pushing it) from 60MHz.
The P-Rating system? That was used by AMD, Cyrix, and IDT (they were in some sort of alliance against AMD), and NexGen used something similar (I don't think they used THE P-Rating system, though).
Well, http://vasc.ri.cmu.edu/demos/faceindex/05062004/us ers/2248.html (scroll to the bottom left) did something perfectly - look at Bush - according to the computer, he's two-faced. I could have told you that, but at least the computers can figure it out. I think they're going to hook me up to the Matrix...
Mainstream hardware? Well, something tells me that if the addon is Mini-PCI, and there's a PCI version of it that works on a PowerMac running your OS, it'll work on a PowerBook, but (AFAIK) not an iBook. BTW, when will Apple get smart and release an eBook or something? I know it lowers the barrier to entry, but some of us are poor and would like to try a Mac for a change. For that matter, are there any VNC access accounts on a Mac? Something like Workspot, but connecting to an OS X Mac?
Bonus points if someone other than mav[LAG] can figure out where that came from.
BTW, mav, it's STRANGE country, not foreign country.
Ahh... that's more like it. The 760 line was Pentium I. I know, because a friend of mine had a 760ED.
BTW, EPOC isn't exactly dead.

So, get a $70 Actiontec Dual-PC Modem (it's a router with a 56K modem instead of a WAN jack).
Yes, but people WON'T KNOW HOW TO INSTALL THE SERVICE PACK, or if they're on dial-up, WON'T WANT TO!
Commell makes a Mini-AGP board (Pentium M goodness, too). It seems some Dells take Mini-AGP, so you can even get reasonably recent graphics.
Also, you COULD settle for PCI...
Wait a sec... you said PPro?
What was THIS monster (FOR ITS TIME)?
Well, a GPL project could file it (although I don't think it would quite work, so it would be Microsoft to file it):

Whatever comes standard with MDK10 Community (probably something between 3.2.0 and 3.2.1)...
Of course, I prefer Opera for other reasons anyway, so it doesn't matter that much to ME, but...

Plus, this was a BETA, and they had released betas free before... FrontPage 98, WinXP, VS.net, WinXP64, etc., etc.

Konq on MDK10C fscks the /. profile page, for one...
So, that's what Opera's for, you mean. Plus, it's MUCH faster, IMO.
WHOA... I call troll...
The AC makes a good point, but that "investivestigation" link makes it a troll. Only follow it if you have done the following:
* Disabled images
* Disabled popups (in Opera, that's "Block all pop-ups", not "Block unwanted pop-ups")
* Disabled JavaScript
It's Nero-Online's Last Measure, in case you didn't know.

Only 1/32 of the cache needs to be powered on a Banias, and just from the die photos of Dothan, my guess is that only 1/64 needs to be powered.

I opened the tab and got a leech message, even after turning off referrer logging.
Quick question before I open the tab - is it work safe?
