    It's his own server - and it appears to have melted. Hopefully it wasn't one of the G5's, because that'll hurt Apple BIG TIME, and I was thinking of switching (I WILL NOT buy a PC with a hardware DRM implementation!)

    I could just see a fairly serious scene be ruined by XP's Fischer-Price GUI...

    "Quality" shows such as ER and Navy:NCIS both use XP on their sets - look at the monkeypox-like outbreak episode of ER, or ANY episode of NCIS.

    Except they don't mention that the XTerm can also handle mouse input. Try telnetting to sdf.lonestar.org, getting your account activated, and play with Links (2.1). BTW, Links 2.x can handle graphics (yes, they went from 0.99 to 2.0).

    There ARE always used TVs, and 33cm IS SLIGHTLY under 13" (so close it makes almost no diff). Also, one could buy a TV tuner card (~$50 for a cheapo one) and a projector (~$1000 for XGA) and clear a wall for TV... and it could be MUCH bigger than 45", and it would also be A LOT cheaper than 45"

    Hey - I only get CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, a local christian station, and (barely) FOX (listed in order of reception quality) - and that's just classic broadcast - if you want HDTV, you're dropped to the CBS station, which doesn't have nearly the programming on HDTV! This is near Johnstown, Ohio. Cable's available, but no HDTV, ad not cheap (that's why I have ADSL and not Cable).

    Actually, think XTerm - I use PuTTY. It does EVERYTHING an XTerm does, except it's for Windows. Of course, the UI has caused people to port it to Linux...

    Then again, you DO have a point. But, the point I was trying to make was that if they used Telnet/SSH apps on Windows, they'd still have a Windows license.

    DUDE! This isn't the Matrix. I'm saying what could have been used on the set (yes, it's a set, not reality). From what I've heard, though (need to rent the DVD), it would have been the Matrix SIDE of the power plant - therefore, the agents would have had to conform to SCO, MS, and other companies (how much would they interfere with the Matrix to get the front end safe from MS? - I mean, they're trying to match civilization in 1999).

    I meant instead of KaZaA - Klite is the only fasttrack for windows that's worth using.

    Visit my site. I dare you. It doesn't look GREAT, and it's sure as hell not handcoded, but I actually LIKE FrontPage. That's why I've actively looked for a clone (Quanta Gold is the best I've found, and it blows chunks unless you want to hand code)

    But, since Mac OS X ONLY runs on Apple proprietary hardware, that means that anything wrong with the HW brings the OS's value down, too.

    From the DigitalRoom Multi Monitor Guide (for 98/2K/XP):

    * Each monitor must have its own video card (i.e. 3 monitors would require 3 video cards). The exception being if you have special multi-monitor video cards.

    * Anywhere from 2 - 9 monitors are supported.

    Errm, a full-screen telnet to SDF would take care of that REALLY quick in Winders. So would a fullscreen Cygwin-bash session.

    Also, what are you doing posting to /. if you have a life? You should know (having a sub-2000 UID) that none of us have lives by now!

    Of course, a geek without cash COULD get Winders off of KaZaA...

    BTW, she could have been using NMap on either Windows or Cygwin on Windows, with the console set to green. Personally, I think that it was probably a LEGALLY free (either variety) *nix.

    Why not 2000 pro? More reliable, faster, a couple less security holes, works in 99% of the situations that XP pro works in.

    It's not targeted at all. In about 5 ads, one's for eStamps, one's for GoToMyPC, one's for an online backup service, and the other two are for Eudora.

    I doubt that it would even TRY to look for New.net - not because it's a mediocre anti-spyware app, but because Earthlink is a New.net partner.

    Actually, I've NEVER noticed Eudora target ads. Opera used to only target ads if you told it your info, but now you can OPT IN to ads related to the page you're on (it's Google AdWords).

    Of course, you've got the safest browsing habits (seeing as you own a major porn hub)... I don't think it's so much the spyware authors that have fucked the inet, it's the browser authors who leave goatse-sized holes in MSIE. Besides, Opera (just an example) has popup blocking, tabbed browsing, a workable e-mail client (download Thunderbird if you like living... without spam) that can't get the lookOut VoTW, great speed, some of the best MSIE compatibility there is, etc. Mozilla comes damn close (speed, UI, and minor rendering issues are my problems with it), so does Firebird (speed isn't an issue there - however, Opera IS a touch faster).
