I wonder if Jack Thompson would be as happy if someone attempted to remove all the gruesome bits of (questionable) history from the bible, as that is just another piece of violent artistic fiction?
In reality I don't care what this born-again Christian is spouting (apart from verbal crap) as he has no right to sit there and judge what is morally good for other people...
That's like the US telling the rest of the world what to do....Oh Wait....
[0002] Software tools are currently available to help a user who is learning a new language to conjugate verbs. Many of these software tools are available via the Internet. Although there are many variations of these software tools, they typically receive as input an infinitive form of a verb and display its verb forms.
Huh, does this not specify that prior art exists? The only new thing then is providing a non-infinitive verb to a system...???
In some regions of Paris, they are testing out 2 Gbps connections (up and down) for 75 a month...Now THAT is speed, so much so that even your SATA drive would be hard pushed to keep up.
Worse than that, it is costing you Americans jobs...Innovation is stifled, companies are fearful of investing in new research, employees are not hired/retained...watch your 4.8% unemployment rate keep rising...shame, real shame for the US.
How can it exist but be unprovable? If you and your family have a super-natural connection, or at least one that is not currently explained by science, it can be tested.
And how do you propose to do this for GOD? Scientifically speaking, 90% of the known world's population believe in some higher being. Are you suggesting that it can't be tested for hence it doesn't exists and therefore claim that 90% of the world's population is deluded? I know this is completely off-topic but it is a valid response to your statement.
I am squarely in the 10% bracket, but this is a difficult situation to decide one way or another. I understand your argument for "if it exists, you can prove it" but I would ask "When?"
Your argument doesn't hold up properly. It also indicates that you can't love...How do you prove love? I feel, sense and experience (like telepathy) it, but I can not PROVE love...(buying flowers doesn't count).
What it doesn't say is that once you put a request in, your IP is logged, looked up, your ISP contacted, address, phone number, work place and pets names retrieved and the whole lot is sent for cross refrence to a number of intelligence agencies to determine your employer, who is contacted and informed to sack you because you are looking for viruses in the wild...While looking for new jobs, you are traced and if you attempt to get another IT job the agencies will send 100 armed officers to arrest you, charge you with terrorism and send you to guantanamo bay where you will be subjected to torture and only an appointed military lawyer. While there you will admit (whatever your views) that you are anti-american and fighting a non-existant jihad war whereby you will be incarcerated for life...
What I would do to own a time machine. I would buy as many Gb of RAM at $100 a Gb and go back 10 years and sell for $100 a Mb...instant 1024 (minus 1) times increase in investment...$100 becomes $102400...millionaire on 10Gb...Not bad...
'To put MySpace's growth in perspective, if we look back to July 2004 myspace.com represented only.1% of all Internet visits. This time last year myspace.com represented 1.9% of all Internet visits. With the week ending July 8, 2006 market share figure of 4.5% of all the US Internet visits.'"
Strange use of figures here...Initially.1% of all internet visits, then 1% of all Internet trafic...Lastly week ending July 8th the figure is compared with US stats and not global. So comparitively speaking it is a little bit questionable the figures quoted.
I wonder if the district attorny would object to those same kids joining Uncle Sam? I mean, they put you in a position of danger, give you a gun, and train you to kill...
Different?
Oh yes, sorry, my mistake...no-one gets hurts playing video games...bad games...Oh, games allow you to think for yourself and how you do things for yourself...Yes, very bad...
Army ok, games not? Huh? You keep doing what your told and shooting who we tell you too...That's right...good boys...
This is just an ignorant statement. If you think that any of those 25 countries will see any of this money you are very very mistaken. You will probably find that this money will be put into research grants, charitable projects and pay court costs. It is obvious from your statement that you have no idea of how the EU works, what they do and how they do it. You probably have no clue as to the differences between the European Union, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of EU, the Court of Justice, the Court of Auditors, the Ombudsman, the European central bank, or the European Economic and Social Commitee.
In fact, I believe the vast majority of people on slashdot have no idea of what the EU is all about, and I would go so far as to say that the majority of UK citizens do not fully understand the system.
To combat child porn, ISPs will create a child porn database? Am I missing something here? Or do we just have to hope that a) child molestors don't work at ISPs and b) the database is VERY VERY VERY secure...
This is the start of a police state when I can't go to my local library with whatever frequency I like and read whatever I like and that that information is freely distributed to the police force without proper procedure.
It's like the police entering a place of business and grabbing the clients database without a subpoena...It is wrong, and the public should push back on this or face a never-ending spiral into a police state.
You fought and deservedly won your freedom from us Brits, don't let your own government return you to your past.
"If there are that many people that desperate to get into a university, the obvious question would be, why don't they just open more schools?"
Under communism, you don't want that many acedemia because you want to have manual workers. If you educate everybody you risk losing control and democracy taking hold. Although this hasn't happened in Cuba, this is the reason why there is only limited places in University in communist states.
Cuba is slightly different as it is a semi-marxist state. They encourage you to go to university if you are clever enough. However, it is also easier to control people because what Cuba was under American rule was worse (read much worse) than under Castro...well, until recently anyway. Things are getting worse again FOR THE PEOPLE...
I know that the US has given us many many good inventions, UK likewise...However, just cause the US did it first does not mean that no-one would ever have done it.
Yes the US do good, but they also do very very bad things. The good does not outweigh the bad.
My comment on bullying is a direct attack on your military might which the US seems to throw around at its discretion. Now I am from the UK and we (and we are talking governments here, not people) are far from perfect examples of being nice to people and not throwing our weight around.
To be honest with you, I don't like the idea of IRAN ever having nukes, but I equally dislike any country having nukes...I just don't like this human requirement to be able to extinguish a massive number of other humans...It's tribes all over again but with bigger sticks (a.k.a nukes, planes and tanks).
This could be good for both of you guys (US and Iran)...Us can build new nukes and offset the cost by selling the old lot to Iran...Then in 15 years time when the old ones die, the US can then offer to clean them up (for just a little cash) and get them back, all the while making Iran feel safe over 15 years while they develop their own...America wins with dollars (cause they will have to accept that Iran has nukes sooner or later whether they like it or not) and Iran wins with what they want, a deterrent against the US.
On a serious note though, what makes the nukes in the US administration's hand any safer than anyone else's? Some nut case could still make President in the US (newsflash: possible nut case already in office in second term) and press that big red button with "press ME" written on it.
In the end, the US is just a big bully, both economically and militarily.
It is too late for sony to remove the Blue Ray Drive from the PS3. With the cost being known for the standalone drives being more than the PS3 people could argue that by replacing it with a DVD Sony should be able to give the console away.
Even if MS brings out an external HD-DVD drive one year after the release of the XBOX 360, it still means that I will be able to get my hands on one before I can get hold of a PS3. And a hunch tells me that it will be approximately the same price as a PS3 minus the current cost of the XBOX 360 or possibly less...
Like allofmp3, multiple formats, cheap downloads...
Oh wait...The US is trying to shut that down and holding Russian membership to the WTO as a precondition...And the UK threatening to sue them...Get em while you can.
Yet they don't ban cigarettes or alcohol...strange that...Considering that they are more harmful to society than a few gun-toting crazy gamers...Maybe its cause of the vast amount of money in tax governments make on cigarettes and alcohol.
Back on-topic with detox centres it is, unfortunately, all about money again...If you can make a clinic work for emptying yours bowels then I am sure that this game addiction clinic will rake it in. If not in customer's money, in government spending. Karem
I would definitely like to see more vacation time and less invasion on personal time, but that costs money.
Yes and No. It costs money, and this cuts into profit and makes shareholders unhappy. Hence, get your employees to burn the midnight oil and your shareholders are happy, but employees less so. Who are more important? Shareholders of course as they bring the money. Hence, money remains in the shareholders, employees work 80 hour weeks on a 40 hour week salary without too much complaint because the fear keeps you there. Sorry, but outsourcing isn't a solution when intellectual property is at stake. Your point is true for some, but not for all.
As UK is part of Europe I thought I would say that the statutory mininmum holiday is actually 20 work days (plus national holidays). In essence this works to about a month. I actually have 25 and build up more for overtime and weekend work. However, this is because Europeans (and the UK is amongst the closest to US policy) are attempting to maintain a social agenda which includes family time. The problem is in the mentality (not insinuating, just reflecting).
US people have to fight for their jobs and so tend to do "extra" to maintain their job because it is easy to get fired. The UK is not so easy, and countries like France it is near on impossible to get fired (and even if you do you get paid for a year...they also get 35 holidays a year and 35 hour work weeks mandated by law, any more and you can recover in extra days off)...
SO the moral of the story is that the people are to blame for a) not preventing your government for bringing in anti-social work ethics (a.k.a capitalism) and b) for accepting the situation enforced onto you by your employee (bring back the Unions).
In reality I don't care what this born-again Christian is spouting (apart from verbal crap) as he has no right to sit there and judge what is morally good for other people...
