Yeah it all sucks, but one part of this equation is that no one has looked at where the parent company is located. All of the core money, profits, and taxable income will go to the country where the company is located/incorporated.

Yeah, your car may be made in the USA, by good ole' American people and that's fine. But you're only gaining the benefits from the taxes paid on their incomes not on the corporation. The profits of the company in the long run are going to back to the homeland.

So do you support your American workers or your American companies?

  2. State Govt on How Safe are Government Computers? · · Score: 1

I work for a state Govt agency finally got an upgraded pc this winter (promised last summer). It has xp. However, I am one of the few that have xp. My PC they just replaced was still on Win98 which is mostly what we run. I don't work in IT (I'm in marketing), but I can safely bet any of you that there's only ONE member of our IT staff (7 members) that is more qualified for the position than I am. Reason: because I am a geek at home, and my SO works in the industry. This is just the cabinet/department I work in. Now our state gov't has an entire IT department under the governor's office that the cabinet/department level IT staff report to, and they aren't much better. Governments can do a lot with the money that have, it is just they don't always hire the best people for all the reasons you've probably heard...and the dedication of the staff. It is the same with private and public businesses, it's all about who you know...

Mythbusters may have proved this wrong with the rail test. BUT I have personally heard the aftermath of someone not heading my advice to watch out for the fence. See I grew up on a dairy farm. We had this pipe that would always get clogged so you would have to snake it and it was in the middle of a holding area for some of our cattle, namely the bull. So this pipe was cut open in the field to unclog we needed and we put an electric fence around it to keep the bull out. The bull thought it entertaining to tear the fence down sometimes and you would find the fence down. We had a male work hand that had issues with working with me and that a kid in high school didn't know what the hell they were talking about. SO being a man, and doing and men do as needed he proceeds out to take a whiz. I try to warn him that fence was down to no avail. The next thing I know I hear help quite a few octaves higher than normal. He comes stomping back in the area I was working and starting to chew me out for not warning him... I told him next time he'd listen to me when I had something say....

It's not just a military thing. I work for state government. When hired on you had to review an ethics packet with a brochure on receiving gifts. We are not allowed any gift valued over $25.00 from anyone related to our job. We're not supposed to let people buy us meals, either. It's a government thing.

Here are a couple of sites that I've used:

Plus I have the software cook'n recipe organizer and it's really great if you're having to plan meals.

  6. Reviews on Amazon.com Pierces Reviewer Anonymity · · Score: 4, Interesting

I've actually written a couple of reviews myself, under my Internet name since I've only done a few. One of the authors actually published the review, so I think it is a neat way to get your name out in your industry if you really want to, especially since the books I reviewed dealt with my "real" job. Only he promoted my internet name. I also noticed that several authors I have met through work and know of them b/c of their books have openly wrote their own reviews on Amazon. Authors should not do that under a veil of secrecy. Just my two cents.

Really let's think about it. If we can record our dreams and thoughts, especially for those of us that do our best writing in our head and can never seem to get it on paper, it could be a useful tool. What about those that are deaf and blind? A way that would have the ability to reconnect the broken links. The possiblities are endless. It's not about creating super human machines; or making big brother. It's taking science and and medicine a step further. A way to help build new and better interpersonal commuinications for those that have trouble with this.
