IANAL, but i don't think so. Evidence illegally obtained will be thrown out in court if the defendants' lawyers are worth their salt, but i doubt there's any serious repercussion to the officers or detectives that cross these boundaries.
So what keeps a cop from going rogue, lying, cheating and stealing in order to gather information and then submit said 'dirt' under an anonymous handle?
Lots of people here talking of hoarding pennies, but you're not going to make money doing that unless you find someone willing to pay you more than $0.01 each, and since that cuts into their profits, I doubt they will. It's not like average people have the metallurgy skills and facilities to melt pennies and separate them into pure materials.
Buuuuuuuuut, if the government rebases them banks, retail stores, anyone will give you $.05 for each penny. That's a much better plan than collecting pennies, melting, separating metals, etc to collect $.0175 or so per penny. You're note even doubling your money. You'd have to have the facilities to process a great deal of pennies to make a significant profit, and unless you already own said equipment, i don't see profit offsetting the purchase of smelting(?) materials.
Now, if i cash $1,000USD out of my savings account, have it converted to 100,000 pennies, and store them in my basement for a few years, i could potentially turn that $1,000 into $5,000. Like any investment, there is potential for loss. I'm currently receiving ~4.5% interest on that money. If after five years the coins hadn't been rebased, i would have missed out on over 20% interest.
Actually, I was thinking the same thing. How much longer before their license subscription service offered to big businesses is their business model for home users as well. Pay $399 USD for 36 months of Office, and get upgrades from free. Month 37? Oh, that's another $399 licensing fee.
I've been using Office since '95, was very pleased with Office 2K, Office XP (2001? 2002?) wasn't bad. Office 2K3 is a little bloated for my taste, but the point is, I'd rather keep using 2K for FREE than pay the MicrosoftMonster a couple hundred bucks. When I can't use 2K anymore, I'll switch to Open Office.
XP, SP1 (SP2 wasn't out at the time I ditched it), and an Office (2000 flavor, i think...)Suite ran just fine. Not personally sure what SP2 would do to it, but if you say it'd slow it down, fine. I wouldn't have been running the MS antispyware, period. That program seems to cause a bit of bloat, if I remember correctly.
My point was that if my experience was acceptable w/ a 700MHz processor with 192MB of RAM, what's wrong with the 1.5GHz system w/ 256MB of RAM? Surely the additional processing power and RAM should make up for the SP2 difference?
For what it's worth, my notebook had a Windows Me sticker on it.
This is a cheap attempt for Apple Records to get money from Apple.
a lot more money...
From TFA:
He said the computer company had paid the Fab Four's firm U.S. $26.5 million as part of the 1991 out-of-court settlement, and in return had received "a considerably expanded field of use." The terms of the deal were kept confidential at the time.
Then why do others have no problems w/ far less horsepower? Case in point, my first XP box was a book, actually a Toshiba Satellite 1735 w/ a *blistering* 700MHz Celeron Processor and a whopping 192MB of RAM. Really slow hard drive, also, but I never considered it *slow*. It's probably slow by today's standards (I got rid of it two years ago when work bought me a nice new shiny centrino)but I think it would still get the job done (which at the time was office apps, Internet, webmail, DVDs, etc).
I think there's something wrong w/ your people's machines other than not enough processor power or RAM. There could be virus, crap software, spyware issues running amuck, taking up RAM and precious processor cycles.
"Microsoft's hotmail on your own desktop according to an article on CNET. it's going to be free software and your going to be able to manage multiple accounts and they are attempting to include the ability to also just control all pop3 and smtp accounts you have..."

if i can configure a mac mini w/ the drive for under $600, a new mac owner i will soon be...
