The prices of high end television sets and surround sound systems are decreasing. More and more consumers are going to watch movies at home instead.
1) Comfort. At home I can eat what I want, drink what i want, prop my feet up, watch the movie in my underwear.
2) Ticket and refreshment prices at theatres are getting stupid-high $5 for a diet coke?
3) Schedule. I can watch the movie on my time, pause, watch half tonight, half tomorrow.
4) Environment control. I find movies houses to be rather chilly and drafty. In my home I control the temperature. I also don't a bunch of noisy kids and lowlifes hanging out in my living room.
Eminem's track was actually titled Sing For The Moment, which sampled Aerosmith's Dream On's chorus. It is Steven Tyler's voice singing the chorus not Eminem's. The verse lyrics were entirely Em's. There is a difference between covering a song, and sampling a chorus. Anyone that couldn't tell the differences in the two singer's voices doesn't deserve either disc.
I never understood why more companies don't do enough user testing. Just have one "wanna be I.T." advanced user of each team (these are the ones that will also help you troubleshoot if functionality is altered - after all they know the in house software best) of each department test using the in house apps against the new service pack. that's what i did.
find a couple of users with the typical drone set up and anyone w/ any kind of freaky additional software, loaded 'em up, let 'em get at it for a few days (or less, if problems presented themselves.) and took their observations. at the end of the week (actually beginning of the following week - who wants to push service packs out over the weekend?!) presented the findings to management along with my reccommendations.
deputizing users to techs can help sometimes, especially when the compatibility issue may be with something you never use, but they use daily.
2.95 million buys a lot more Linux support than 2.95 million in Microsoft. The portion of money that would have paid for licensing can paid to developers, technicians, trainers. They can use this money instead of just earmarking it for Redmond.
In reality 3 mil is a small amount to 'test' Linux in the 'real world' and see how it goes. My guess, in years to come, judging the strong technology climate in SKorea there will be even more funding to switch from MS to Linux in even more government agencies.
I would never use I.E. again if Firefox could do one thing (more), to be able to navigate to other (windows) boxes using my browser (like i can in I.E.)
by typing \\servername or \\ip address
my understanding was that this functionality was part of the API that is not available?
this is the only thing keeping I.E. on my windows desktop.
C'mon now, you know that innovation is only important if it's profitable. Copying a current, successful design sounds profitable, so who cares if it's innovative?
Actually, I don't think so for everyone.
I agree many people had problems with the K7S5A, but many did not. I was a lucky one and personally built several low end Athlon and Duron systems for clients, friends and family with few problems. I was picking the board up for as low as $30 shipped. Sure, the onboard sound sucked, but my clients couldn't care less. They didn't want their employees listening to music anyhow.
I can't remember for the life of me now, but I think there was a direct correlation to the level of quality to the hw revision number. I must have been getting the 'good batch'.
All the ones I personally sent out are still running, or have been replaced due to the need for more power. No failures (insert knock on wood). I have at least three friends still running a K7S5A for something.
Cheap. Mid-grade quality from my experience.
Ok, i'm not going to touch that one with a ten foot, flame retardant pole.
But I wonder? Why would Intel release a case? How about instead a motherboard that would fit in the damn thing?
But an ubersmall PC does have merit. Just have it use the PIII mobile cpu that's in the centrinos. And FDB lapop hard drives are finally starting to come out... that would be nice and could compete w/ the mac mini.
no one is verifying the information.
in fact i've been using an ex-girlfriend's Food Lion MVP (same idea) card since 2001. Neither one of us live at the address have the telphone number that they have on file.
but considering that cd markers are so cheap (4 for less than $3, comparable to most cheap sharpie type markers) I really don't see a reason to risk it.
Agreed. it's not the expense, just convenience. i know at the table in my bedroom somewhere next to my server, there lie two or three sharpies. in my laptop bag, four easily. there are probably three or four at my computer desk downstairs, another two or three in my car. there are probably four in my desk at work, at least one in each of my coat or jacket pockets, and probably a half dozen scattered about in my girlfriends house/car.
i use sharpies everyday (for things other than labeling CD and DVD R's) so i know i've always got one within arm's reach.
were those three all recorded within the same week, off the same spindle?
i've written thousands of data and audio discs since '97 and always used a sharpie to label my discs. i've never had a disc 'go bad' unless i got it scratched to all hell. i have had crap discs that i threw away after burning but before labeling that wouldn't read. often times multiples on the same spindle.
i'm not doubting that there is truth in your experience, i just haven't noticed any correlation in mine.
XFL - lasted one season and went under $35 million in the red. i don't see the publishing houses lining up to make an XFL game. Most football video game players and not video game nuts. they're football nuts. they want to play as their favorite team. they want simulation. they want the game to be as close to what they watch on sunday as possible. for major league sports video games licensing is key. why even try unless you're going to get that license.
Your example is not plagiarism, though. Just 'recycling' the same work through out life. Not illegal, just usually not accepted as new material, which is the premise for these types of awards.
I turned in the same research papers in grades 8-12. I wrote the originial in 8th grade. And while I was never found out, i imagine there would have been occassions where i was forced to re-write on another topic.
compare it to whatever other computers (likely running XP) they are exposed to. they'll just notice "oh, it's linux, and it's slower than windows on my 8GHz P6. stupid linux"
Nah. I don't think so.
I think it will be more of a "Well, I guess that's what I get for buying a $500 laptop. Stupid wal-mart computer - i shoulda got a Dell."
The non-techie user will probably adjust pretty well actually seeing the cost benefits of a Linux OS on a cheaper than dirt laptop.
yeah - i was going to say more people would notice the actual satellites on their lawns, cars, houses, and buildings than would notice the service was down.
Founded and then sold eleven years ago.
He just recently regained control in April of 2005.
So, if you think it's going to take 3 hours to fix, just go out and buy a new computer.
unless the data on said computer is worth more than the hardware, this is the case with a lot of business machines and home users that work at home.

since when are only MS boxen are susceptible to DoS attacks?

the one that already exists is for mozilla/ firefox. here

or domain controller?
Only with the "log on as a service" right.
in Win2000 at least...

iPod photo is actually $449. Add the extended warranty and a few choice accessories and i'm sure you could beat $700.
none of the Mac benefits

nah - that's real.
Making software is really important to MS, in fact it's their second most important goal.
The first goal being selling that software.
I smelled "used car salesman" throughout the whole interview.

I could have just as easily used a fake name.

Make an XFL based game then.

or the Ronald Reagan Space Station

that was my recollection as well.
