    This is not entirely true. You can also fall under SEC jusirdiction as a private company if you number of shareholders incereases beyond some number. There are other ways to trigger this as well.

    What law enforcement agencies are permitted to do by law and what they actually do in practice are very different things indeed. It's naive to think that just because something is against the law means that law enforcement won't do it. Don't kid yourself.

    That's why you expand to salads, chicken, ribs, kiddie playgrounds, etc...

    Evolve or die. It's even more true in business. The greatest and most successful companies are those that continue to evolve in new and ever-changing ways.

    GE still makes a great light bulb. They just happen to also do a zillion other things too; many of those exceedingly well.

    From a business perspective yes, from an end-user perspective K=1, regardless of intelligence of said policies (resistance to change, learn new things, more steps to gain access, etc...)

    If it gets the job done efficiently, I couldn't care less how "ugly" the code looks.

    IMHO, Perl 6 is merely an employment continuation program for perl authors and training consultants. 5.8 doees more than everything I need and other languages fill in where perl is lacking (thr right tool for the right job and all).

    No carrier subsidies in China. You buy your phone retail and they cost as much as they do in the US. I don't think GSM has anywhere near 50% penetration in the US, but have not seen specific research.

    Just because most of the world uses it means just that. Kind of like Microsoft.

    Allow me to elaborate. The feature set on most US tri-band phones are behind those of the rest of the world. Why? Market share. Sell them in Asia-Pac and Europe by the truckload and then do a US design when and if time permits.

    Approximately 450 million handsets were sold last year. How many were GSM handsets sold in the US?

    Checked that. Doesn't need it. It isn't swapping either. On a totally quiescent system (OK, as quiescent as I can reasonably make it), it's still 5 seconds.

    This version only takes 20 seconds to start on a loaded 1.4Ghz Centrino with a ton of memory and a 5400 rpm disk.

    Hmmm... Let's see... The Avant wrapper for IE takes what, 1 second to start up?

    First impressions count.
