California State Constitution, Article III, Section 6

English is the common language of the people of the United States of America and the State of California. This section is intended to preserve, protect and strengthen the English language, and not to supersede any of the rights guaranteed to the people of this Constitution.
(b) English as the Official Language of California.
English is the official language of California.
(c) Enforcement.
The Legislature shall enforce this section by appropriate legislation. The Legislature and officials of the State of California shall take all steps necessary to insure that the role of English as the common language of the State of California is preserved and enhanced. The Legislature shall make no law which diminishes or ignores the role of English as the common language of the State of California.
(d) Personal Right of Action and Jurisdiction of Courts.
Any person who is a resident of or doing business in the State of California shall have standing to sue the State of California to enforce this action, and the Courts of record of the State of California shall have jurisdiction to hear cases brought to enforce this section. The Legislature may provide reasonable and appropriate limitations on the time and manner of suits brought under this section.
Section 2: Severability.
If any provision of this section, or the application of any such provision to any person or circumstance, shall be held invalid, the remainder of this section to the extent it can be given effect shall not be affected thereby, and to this end, the provisions of this section are severable.
Maybe, but you don't see either of them preparing Toad in a Hole or Spotted Dick, to name two traditional British dishes.
If you truly believe French food is overrated, you haven't spent enough time there. I can usually eat better in a French Brasserie than I can in the states for twice the price.
While it seems everybody wantd to give you the benefit of the doubt, is it possible the 3rd party company was right?
I'd suggest taking a good hard look at yours skills versus your peers and make sure you measure up. Human nature being what it is, we are inclined to having a higher opinion of ourselves than that which others may hold.
Companies don't pay for 3rd party assessments unless there is some compelling, underlying reason. Most likely, the reason for your replacement is not black and white.
Make it a learning experience for you. Improve any deficiencies you may have. You'll be a better employee and person for it.
Less that 10% of the market is CDMA. GSM dominates and is predicted to do so in the future. Granted, 10% of the Chinese mobile market is still a big number, but the earlier article on the GSM linux smartphone is much more significant.
I believe in the best tool for the job as well, but if it's not free software, then it is very unlikely to be a candidate. Note that I am one of the (few?) people who consider long term effects as well. If I use non free software, it may encourage others to do the same thing (or at least it will encourage them less not to), which is bad for the software I have at my disposal. I assumed that free software is better than non free if they are the exact same code as a fact, read the philosophy section of www.gnu.org for details if you haven't already.
Try running a multinational, multicurrency, multilingual business using free software. Start with an accounting system. Note it needs to be certified in many countries, by the approppriate government agency. Good luck.
I'll skip the philosophy section of www.gnu.org, thank you very much as I am a greedy, capitalist running dog who expects to make as much money as possible off the fruit of my labor.
Typically, the need to run other apps on newer versions of OS will drive, in a large part, the need to migrate the underlying operating system on the desktop. 'Tis the same in the open source world. How current, commercial apps will run on RH 5.x or 6.x?
...when you use Microsoft software, you never own it, and the future of the software is controlled by Microsoft, not you. Hence upgrade treadmills, deliberastely incompatible file formats, and the like.
[Disclaimer: As I have stated numerous times before, I am OS-agnostic, believing in the best tool for the job]
I humbly disagree. I have reviewed both my Eneterprise and Select agreements. For all intents and purposes, I own them. There are restrictions, but they can't take it back (unless I violate the restrictions).
Regardinng upgrade treadmills, nobody forces you to upgrade. I have seen figures that estimate that >40% of all Eurpoean corporate seats are still NT 4.0. When was that released? 1995? 1996? Something like that. I can attest that my company's European subsidiary is still running ~500 NT 4.0 seats and we are the market leader in our segment. We will upgrade this year to, guess what? Win2k. How many people (percentages) are still running their flavor of the version of linux that was released circa 95-96? How about since 2000?
Incompatible file formats? Modulo Access, Office has been compatible from 97-XP and, to my recollection, has always been forwadly compatible.
Open Source is no saint when it comes to backward comptability either. There's no commercial requirement to do so. If it's too hard, or gets in the way of killer new functionality, the hell with backwards comptability.
As the original title said, "Welcome to the 21st Century". Adapt or die.
Corporations are global and motivated by profit. You can either figure out how to profit along with them, or bitch and starve.
Who are these magical people that you think will replace executives (who have, I will add, been around a whole lot longer than IT people)? Like them or not, until you have the wisdom of perspective from both sides you will always be working for one (assuming you can stop cursing long enough).
I'm sure that a 50 geek gathering is a lot less odorifierous than a 500,000 geek gathering.

Nice write-up on Netflix, but nothing really earth-shattering there either.
I've read and re-read the article. Other than a couple of vague references, there is no list there at all.
Do you get a free burial too? Your healthcare measures are going to be largely palliative as there is no known cure for the disease.
As long as you don't eat beef, you mean, right?
A. Because they only know how to fvck up.
and yet you don't subscribe to Slashdot... hmmmm

How much for France? Good food, hot chicks... I'm there.
...cuz I expect you'll be referred to pics of said cube.
Ask his peers & former bosses (though I'd skip the most recent one).

FWIW, Office 97-XP is compatible both ways.
Actually, I'm in the married w/kids category as well, although I do have a big UID. ;)
You have a girlfriend?
You are obviously new here. ;)

Good strategy, that.
