Tickets For The World's Biggest Computer Party

vvizard writes "For Norwegian geeks in particular, easter is preferable spent at the worlds biggest computer-party [The Gathering]. That is, for those lucky enough to get tickets at least. Tickets for the scandinavian people where released through Partyticket last night, and got sold out as fast as the system managed (which due to extreme traffic, isn't very fast). However, there are still tickets left. Foreigners, demosceners and professional gamers have their own pool of tickets, which started selling tonight. So if you fit in one of the previous mentioned categories, and would like to experience the biggest computer-party in the world, now is the time to check out www.gathering.org for information, and www.partyticket.net for ticket-booking."

Assembly 1993 was also great. I traveled with other people from Norway. The atmosphere was almost religious when Future Crew showed their Second Reality on the big screen. This was on the peak for demo scene in general. I allmost cried at that moment. :-) -lAphy

i had no idea what you all were talking about. wikipedia helped me.

aparently its like cracking software and shit. i totally agree, every party should have some dedicated crackers incase a new patch is released or something.

The demoscene is an computer sub-culture that came to prominence during the rise of the 16 bit micros (the Atari ST and the Amiga), but demos first appeared during the 8-bit era on computers such as C64 and ZX Spectrum.

Demos began as software cracker's 'signatures'. When a cracked program was started, the cracker or his team would take credit via an impressive-looking graphical introduction or intro. The first time this appeared was on the Apple II computers in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Later, these intros became so involved that they evolved into their own subculture independent of cracking software. These were not initially called demos but rather letter, message etc.

I lovingly select my best pewter hand-painted fantasy figurines, and place them in their padded cigar box. I select my best "gemstone" gaming dice and place them in their leather sack. I place enough "adult" oriented comics into my backpack to last for two transatlantic flights. On my hacked Zaurus running Opie I have placed maps to the events, so I will not get lost.

Strongly agreed. I don't have time to read all the crap, which is what I like about moderation. But I get very tired of seeing stupid, obvious stuff modded up and wasting my time. Redundant "This joke has worked the last 5,000 times I posted it, so I'll post it again" jokes shouldn't be getting modded up.
