This is interesting but has existed for years - DON'T just mod me down - finish reading, please.
What's new is the Duke Energy "New Awesome Smart Meter That Makes Your Home More Power-Friendly" meter (that's literally how they present it and it's suggested to be just that on the meter itself).
This meter is a replacement that all customers (at least in the Greater Cincinnati Tri-State area) are required to let Duke come out and swap. Oh, they charge you for the swap, too.
If you'll look at the poles with transformers installed on them, there's a new little grey box that's installed with an attachment to the 240v low side as well as the high voltage side (bypassing the transformer).
This new setup allows Duke to remotely signal (by wire) your meter to read it, AND (this is what they're not telling people), shut it of remotely if your bills aren't current (no pun intended). No more dogs protecting your power meter from a pull, less Humans needed hired for this manual labor, faster disconnect and reconnect, etc.
This is something other power companies will follow suit with soon, so I'm sure people needn't worry too much about this wireless power meter issue that's existed for years and hasn't been knowingly exploited before now.
Oh, that's fine. They'll just find another one that harms other companies and raises the price and preceived value of their product slightly more than this one would have.
Well if Apple really only wants to pay $1.00 per phone, and Motorola says 2.25%, why not sell the phones for $44.44? Both companies would be happy, and so I suppose would the consumer.
I've heard that cock-lengthening pills for Apple are cheaper than that or they would definitely go for what you suggested.:->
For once, we have a judge who just wants to do her job.
Lucy Koh is another judge who apparently just wants to do her job, but as an Apple employee.
Ooh, some Apple spinmod did not like that post, oh dear.
Slashdot needs a browser plugin that uses the webcam on one's machine to sense the facial expression of "Oh, crap, I've just been out-commented" and automatically disable their ability to moderate for one hour.:)
But I guess everything looks like your comment when you're a mindless fanboy or fandroid.
Where in the heck does it state that if you think Apple is a patent-happy, greedy, partially immoral, and self-contradictory corporation, that you are a fan of Android, Google, or any other company?
Think of it this way, I'm a better singer than 99.9999% of all rappers, but that doesn't mean I can hold a note (nor does it stop me wailing 80's power ballads down the highway).
The RIAA may beg to differ. At the rate we are going, our cars will listen to what we are singing, determine how many people are in the car listening to it, and automatically charge you for royalties on each person as well as a surcharge for bad singing.
I'm sure I'm out of tune enough for it to be considered an original work. Especially with the low standards of originality in the music industry.
Oh, I'm sure you'll just be summoned for a copyright violation in one day for using their prior art to create your own work.:->
...Even the most unsophisticated consumer sheep is going to lose it the day playback stops because their friend walked in.
OMG I'm so sorry to "butt in," but I just got the funniest vision in my head of some kid c0d3r using the input to stop the porn when mom walks in the room, but continue it if friends walk in. Maybe even stop the porn and start a game... The possibilities!
...that Verizon doesn't screen their employees with an IQ test.:p
True, but even more disturbing (but it can't end until we master brain reading) is the fact that all employees are trusted with insanely sensitive and/or private data with a mere word or signature on a piece of paper.
In other words, put that into a sentence, and it looks sorta like this: "I understand the rules and the repercussions. I also know the means I have to break the rules and avoid repercussion. I promise, oh yes, promise that I won't break the rules EVER. Trust me."
This has happened since computer service came into existence.* What I find odd about this is the two oddities put together.
First, the idiot was stupid enough to share it with a CUSTOMER; let's leave the 'other employees' out of this - that's risky enough. Second, the idiot was STUPID ENOUGH TO SHARE IT WITH A CUSTOMER. That leads to an odd picture (no pun intended). I take a guess that the tech was quite young, first-off. It might have been a full moon day (that's pushing it, I know). Best-for-last: I am guessing it was a set-up. For it to be shared with this "friend", said friend would have had to either play the "I'm a tech at some other place" game, and try to play the role, or the employee was just that young and stupid to actually SHOW A CUSTOMER. The caps indicate my extreme questioning of this logic and risk, in case that's not obvious.
The above items not being the case, it also leads to two other possibilities: 1.) The friend had already schemed with the victim to find the pictures would be shown, not tell management but quietly go to the police and file a police report, and have the place warranted and searched without time for direct deletion of evidence.** 2.) The friend told the victim out of guilt OR in passing, and the victim was smart enough to go to the police instead of management (see 1).
In my head (and I'm just guessing here), from all of the years that this has gone on and nothing like this has made the news***, this reeks of a planned act to get shitloads of money. Call me stupid, but hey.... Time and actions taken into account here, this just seems too well played out (unless, of course, the victim was told in passing AND was pissed enough to call the police; Human behavior taken into account, I'm shocked she didn't report the friend as well out of shame and guilt).
Sorry for the $0.01 in thoughts here, but hey. It's a comments section.:)

I propose synchronized runs to the store to purchase crap we don't need!
Everyone go to www.nukewebcam.edu, pick one of the 26 plants, and as soon as you see precipitation, run out the front door screaming as you run along all the easily reached streets where you live.
"Nobody has a product that lets you work and play that can be your tablet and your PC. Not at any price point,"
That's actually a true statement. Ballmer's problem is that it is still a true statement after Surface debuts.
But the Surface doesn't have a 'price point'. It uses a 'bit-point' that covers workability smiles, play smiles, happiness smiles, and all of the smile smiles in the smiley Bit-Point World(tm). Heeeee!/sarcasm
"Beyond Abbott's confession of issuing some verbal abuse, the video does not appear to display a significant blockage of traffic nor anything noticeably criminal."
Clearly she was redirecting the attention of a couple of critical TSA authorities so a terrorist could get through the line. It was a plan, I tell ya. A plan!
They only gave her one year of probation so they could cyber-tail her and watch for accomplices.
So where are all the "Clean your computer NOW or be disconnected." letters to the customers with computers infected by more viruses than a $2 whore on half-price Thursday?
They tried that and it didn't work, so they stopped.. Ooooh, I see where you're going with this one, you slick person, you.:)

That means Apple cannot re-file the case again.
Oh, that's fine. They'll just find another one that harms other companies and raises the price and preceived value of their product slightly more than this one would have.

Not really, they're too busy playing with their iPhones and iPads to notice some random AC joke on Slashdot.
The ADD doesn't let 'em finger-scroll far down enough to see more than the first comment and few replies. Cha-ching!

Thanks, but I'll fix my own devices. LOL

I tidied that up for ya.
*snicker*
If only I were 100% joking....
No, no way. Come on, no large conglomerate like the RIAA would EVER do something like that. Pull the other one! /sarc

Godz-eel-a?
It's pronounced "Go-zheer-a' in poorly dubbed copies.

Nyark nyark.
"The Pinch."
When they set it off, most all of them had their hands over their groins with their bodies 75% turned away from the direction of the blast.
Good movie, BTW.
As long as the [amusement park | store | etc ] is legally required to remove it before you leave their premises, I would consider it.
I also would NOT want it to be easily removable for obvious reasons.
Side note: Heck, we already have leashes for our children...... :)

Ooooh, I see where you're going with this one, you slick person, you.
They can just increase profit by going "Oh, let's pick accounts daily and accuse them of piracy."
There, fixed that for you.
There, fixed that up for you.
... if I didn't do anything wrong. THEY should first prove I did.
"For $70, we will consider your idea."
Maybe now... Future profits on alternatives must outweigh true value. That's how it goes.
Year 2024...
Gasoline: $21.50/gal
Ethanol: $29.45/gal
Electricity for quick 20-min charge: $20/min
Yeah.
Monkey see, monkey do.
I thought if you fly twice as far, your camera will work 1/4 as well, not 1/2.
He was talking to Kindergarteners, not Khashishis. :)
Quit playing with PP.
