Just because they own a distro of linux doesn't neccessarily make them likable around slashdot. Just look at Sun - alot of mean stuff flying around about them. And, really, having Novell gain (in my opinion) at the very max a couple of hundred million when they just gained over half a billion dollars a few days ago, isn't exactly going to start a linux rennaissance.
I'm just going to stop now - I've had enough trolls in the past few days!
How about "guys who are trying to protect their intellectual property from competitors who [*cough cough*] stole code off them and are now completely ruining their business"?
Everything has two sides, even with people trying to kill linux.
I do. I just think that winamp 5 is the best player out there. I mean, winamp 2 (which XMMS is a clone of) is good and all, but for some reason everything has come together with winamp 5.
However I do like some of the extra features that come with XMMS that even winamp 5 doesn't have, including the queueing system (which I don't know why winamp 5 doesn't (or at least didn't the last time I checked) have that).
Perhaps an open sourced winamp is on the cards? (or at least the engine minus any proprietry licensed stuff) That would be fun, especially if my favourite player could be ported to linux...
*shrug* just because you didn't get the joke doesn't mean I care what you think (or even what the moderators think).
Frankly I agree with you - I only posted it to make me laugh, and that was all that mattered. If other people don't laugh then it shouldn't be moderated up, and frankly I don't give a flying f*** what other people think of that one! I think only a sydneysider would even give a mild chuckle, as the joke was aimed at us (or an even narrower subset of sydneysiders).
Exactly. And how many computer "idiots" (this is quite obviously a generalization - I know not all of AOL users are technologically incompetant) are subscribed to AOL? How many will follow the leader?
Well no, I think that it'll go something like this:
Day 1: Cold
Day 2: Damned Cold
Day 3: For the last f***ing time, it's F***ing Cold you a**holes!
Day 4: (let's have a competition to see who can make the best next message shall we?)
The main problem is, like it or not, the characters just don't look realistic. If you saw the character in a real picture you'll be able to spot it as computer generated even in a situation like wheres wally. Light doesn't glow off girls faces usually - you might get some specular but almost no glow. Again it doesn't look realistic to me at all, and I think with a few simple modifications to the textures and material properties, it could make the characters look a huge amount better, which, to me, is a major disappointment when looking at the game's graphics.
Of course, it doesn't actually matter that much to me. I'm not going to play it anyway - I use linux so I'm just going to stick to the copies of Doom 3 and Unreal Tournament 2004 that I bought and maybe play Half Life in the unlikely event that a linux port comes along.
actually I think the half-life humans look like crap. It's their skin - there's no pores and it's too smooth. Doom 3 did a whole lot better representing humans, though there wasn't many of them.
However, I haven't played the game, and if the animations are done properly it may account for the bad texturing.
I was trashed not long ago for not recognizing a Chasing Amy quote when I had seen it about 8 years beforehand - grabbing the DVD and watching it again was worth it if only for the millions of slashdot references that come up!
I'm interested in a bit of a converse question: How much of penny arcade comes from your personal life?
I remember being surprised that their names had nothing to do with Gabe and Tycho, and they look nothing like in the strip. If their girlfriends/wives aren't as hot as in the comics I'll be losing all faith in the system.
yes it is. If I remember properly you have to go to add windows components under add/remove software, then there is a box for selecting IIS to install.
yeah you're right. The AMD processor is much better than the Intel equivalent, I mean it's equivalent to a whole 200 megahertz higher than the Intel processor.
when you've got a large piece of software, that software could be covered by literally hundreds of software patents. So chances are, the big boys will have another patent that the small companies need and force the small company to cross-license.
This is a software situation - a piece of software isn't covered by a single patent, so those scenarios are faulty.
A question for you (off topic but I'm curious): What operating system do you use?
I personally use debian linux and pretty much all open source software (except for my favourite and most used app, UT2004). I'm not trying to attack you or anything, I'm just genuinely curious as to what you are classing as "using OSS" in your comment.

A lot of linux zeolots around here (and even some Windows users) will be thinking that anything that could hurt Microsoft must be linux friendly.
So my answer to the question posed in the title is "yeah, why not?" Besides, it is topical to current computer events.

Oh the irony of using winamp on linux.

That's a lot of market share.

No, I think that he's the member that they left at Fremantle. Poor guy, the freezing breezes even in summer must be killing him.
To an Australian living in Sydney, Fremantle is the coldest place on earth!
Oh I've seen movies of it, but anyway...

heh, I live in Australia. At the cheapest place it'll be saving me $30.

not anymore though - or has tycho gotten his partner pregnant?

sorry to bother you but I think he meant a web server that won't get your computer hacked in fifteen minutes.
Thanks.
Damn multi-CD distros not using the fact we're *gasp* usually connected to the Internet and can download what we want.
I'm not sure whether that's a comment made in comparison to other distros, but, just in case, here is...
A brief broadband linux tutorial:
Debian
Ubuntu
Arch
Gentoo
The end.
like the person who took the screenshot using kde.
Thats like suing the maker of Windows because it runs BitTorrent.
What a great idea - why hasn't RIAA thought of that?
