I am no professional. But being blind to the reality is not a wise choice. My question is, where is Gimp heading? Non-pro users get things done using lot less sophisticated tools. Using GIMP is a overkill for people like me.
Frankly, the people who cry "I'm a professional" and are manifestly unable to learn a new UI... I have a lot of trouble taking them seriously.
Funny how "standard" is a forgotten word when it comes to Gimp.
One cannot deny that at the end, it is all about UI learning. What is debatable is how much of it is worthwhile. People also complain about Blender, but after learning it, it is beneficial, which makes people learn it. Unfortunately, GIMP is not so worth-while, as I said, since now it has better competitors.
There are far too many anomalies of usability, lack of features and intricacies required for Gimp. Today, Photoshop is the industry leader, and anyone doing serious editing is using it. To be successful, Gimp must surpass it in more than one way (the one way being free). Kind of like what Firefox did to IE. Unfortunately, Gimp is no where ready for that. And I get a feeling that it is (heading to) nowhere.
I have been using Gimp for a long time. When I first installed Linux it was the only program everyone used to talk about. KDE's kolourpaint was not yet there for general purpose paint-brush replacement. I have used it for years under the hood of open-source fanboyism. And I think that is the reason why it has suffered. It had no competition, and now it is just a software which you don't want to open, again.
Now, I know it is not a paint-brush replacement. But it is neither a Photoshop replacement... and the middle land is already full of other utilities. Inkscape, Krita,... may be even Blender. The problem is that no one wants to be in the middle. Utilities need to rise to the top, or they face the fate of XMMS. I hope there will be a replacement in GTK too, just to show Gimp how to use the toolkit:)
PS: posted this on journal before... this is shameless re-posting.
There is nothing wrong. It is just some person (GP) projecting his own belief of how to raise a kid on Hans Reiser and calling him weird for not qualifying it. It is quite probable that Hans did wanted to raise his kid as "a Man", after all, how many of us have not thought of raising our kids "unlike" us? Add with this the affinity his wife had with "Manly" people (his other boy friend is in hard code BDSM), it is quite understandable.
Ofcourse his being weird does not shed even a bit of light on how he could be a murderer.
Windows 95 did jack shit with 4 mb of RAM. "... . To achieve optimal performance, Microsoft recommends an Intel 80486 or compatible microprocessor with at least 8 MB of RAM."
You so opened my eyes to the reality. I almost felt like a blind for a moment! GGP was such an jack-ass, missed the whole point!!
I am using Filter von Dr.Evil for Adblock Plus, and the popup got through. Though after clicking 'close', it didn't appear again even after refreshin it. Possibly because it stores some cookies.
I have stated this before. The concept of "Intellectual Property" is as alien to India as is "worshiping a cow" for West. There is a fundamental philosophical difference, the one between individuality of West and the societal benefits of East. And India is a champion in its home grown social structure. Believe me when I say that people saying they were just doing "sewa" (a word originally coming from Sanskrit, and a concept common to all Dharmic religions), are not at all lying. It is a mob culture out there, where Internet is for downloading, and software is for getting a job done. It is going to take a lot if anyone wants to teach them paying for a software because it is "copyrighted". Such concept is, simply alien.
I don't know what I like more. On one hand I have bashed Microsoft for a long time for not stopping piracy to promote their monopoly in India. (Right now I am sitting with an Indian guy, coming from much "praised" OMG IITs, in Germany for internship, who laughed at my colleague's attempt to buy an anti-spyware. After trying to convince him for two weeks that piracy is bad, he has become numb, and probably will introduce me as a jerk to his friends back in India). And now that MS has taken a anti-piracy stance, my heart rejoices for the thought of seeing more people talking about OpenOffice and Linux.
On the other hand, it means stern cultural brainwash that is going to happen, that was cooked in West in the name of Individuality. How ironic that Indian guys like think of "owning" stuff - wife, pride, religious superiority etc., but don't want to think of others owing something which is good for themselves. In short, this is what happens when you mix two cultures without a reason. India is a place of confused people. It is where Afganistan and Iran have been before. Unfortunately or fortunately, India is too democratic to converge this unrest towards praising the past and hating the West. The only way out for her is to completely be westernized.
So, for those people saying this, in ANY way, will lead to greater acceptance of Linux, sorry boy, you are dreaming. Just wait and watch, when years later India will be new America. After China is no more, that is.
I know you made a type there:) I myself have no sense of English language, and I somehow am able to do it... but "Gadhi" in Hindi means female Equus asinus.
Coming from one of the most praised IITs, IIT-Kanpur, I will have to say, BullShit! In my stay I have seen every single hostel being renovated to look like a 5 star hotel (yes, it is better than my current "Wohnzimmer" at Germany), every fricking road built twice and then thrice for apparently no reason. Actually,in my first year the footpaths were above road, and in my 2nd year, they were below.
This does not mean IITs don't do any good. IITs do good research, but as every "hip" place where people think they are superior than others, and thus are totally cut off from real world, the researches concerning local problems remain of no consequence. Simputer and Tech-Thela (lit. Tech-Wagon, basically a rickshaw with a computer with wireless capabilities - an ambitious project from IIT-K Mechanical department, now resting in basements) are flawed because the users need food and water before computers.
Probably these tech products will look good for developing countries which have crossed a certain point of development and are help back by lack of mass availability of technology. No one can deny that India is NOT in that position. Rejecting OLPC was a good decision. This 10$ project, as someone said above, is just government's way to distribute money among "relatives".
If they try to play a VCD on a PC, the VCD secretly loads a program on the PC that interferes with the PCs ability to read the disc.
Good thing I use Linux.
While one can say that this software is "DRM", I am pretty sure that the lack of proper technology is because public is NOT as tech-literate as most people in West think.
Linux is invisible to India. Only communist politicians listen to RMS and that because they don't know a dime about Linux. Most people doing outsourced jobs don't even know basic commands of Unix. I remember one of my friend studying at IT-BHU (one of the leading insitutes of technology) who did not wanted to install SuSE 9.1 because he "likes to install everything and SuSE comes with 5 CDs and Windows takes only 1". And he was studying computer science.

Yep! Thanks. This option was checked: "Show the links domain only in recommended situations"
:)
I suppose then, Wikipedia is not recommended
Just a noob question. How did you manage to give a link without Slashdot pointing out the domain name?
I am torn between funny, troll and flamebait. Guess I will let the others decide.
Yep... that thought never entered my mind. Thanks.

For those who don't know, TMP is short form of Tampon for memory leaks.

Interesting find :) Might be that they realized they were driving through long lane all this time.
Nice links there :) For mods, read them... they are not troll.
That was me, by the way.
Clearly, you have never been to India.

From when did hot possible naked dudes become porn?

Wow, you are actually insightful!
What is the defination of "full rich life"? Having sex, going to places you haven't been before, healthy life, and having sex.
To me, they all are nature's ways (or the way we have evolved) to raise more kids, healthy kids.
To say again, I am not against population control etc., it is this individuality that makes me sick; where process becomes more important than goal.
