Actually it does, after it crashes and you reboot your system it says your system has recovered from a serious error and asks you to send the error report.

He's probably getting a serious system error that XP is set to reboot on by default, you can disable the automatic reboot by right clicking my computer and going to properties, then advanced, then going to the startup and recovery settings. Uncheck automatically reboot and you should get a stop error.

No monitary incentives? Surely you cannot seriously use that arguement. The monitary incentive is makeing it unneccessary for a user to purchase a legit license to be able to run Windows.

As for making a copy of the cd? Go right ahead, just make sure that you use a legit cd-key when you are installing Windows from the copy and that use of the cd-key is within the boundaries of the EULA.

As for stealing a parking space? How can you steal a parking space, unless you payed for the space it is not yours, from a legal point of view, in the first place.

Now comparing the software to music, this I like. Music, like software can be used by anyone, as long as it is only coming from one source per license, or cd in the case of music.

As for Microsoft not telling the truth about it, just call their tech support and ask them, they will have no problem telling you that. It was developed to stop piracy, however do you really think Microsoft is stupid enough to think that there is a 100% gaurenteed way to stop piracy, personally, I don't.

How is sharing with friends and family not piracy? I always thought piracy was installing software on a computer that it was not licensed to be used on. Also Microsoft isn't stupid, they know that people that are bound and determined to pirate their software are not going to be stopped by activation. The people they intenend to stop are people like Joe User who isn't aware that it is illegal to pass copies to their friends and family copies of Windows XP and really have no clue that things like cracks and leaked keys are on the internet for it.

I don't know where you get the idea Microsoft has bad tech support. Perhaps I am biased because I work for the nameless outsourcer that Microsoft hired to handle tech support (I work with Windows XP).

Microsoft support centers are all copc certified and have pretty strict rules when it comes to customer satisfaction. More often than not there is less than a 2 minute wait on the phones (This isn't always the case, sometimes we get a rush of customers) and very frequently we will try to support issues that have nothing to do with us (AOL loves to take advantage of this.)

And just in case your thinking I am some brainwashed Microsoft drone, to be perfectly honest the rules there are a pain in the ass.

That video looked fake. The computer wouldn't have taken a hard enough hit to smash the cover off (I suppose he could have been like me and just too lazt to put the screws in). But still I couldn't see any motherboard there either, looked more like an empty case.

If that actually happened to me though, there would be a large number of dead gamers.

  12. Re:Closed source.... on Microsoft: Because Bugs are Cool · · Score: 1

I am currently working for the company mentioned above. Most of the calls we recieve are users with setup issues that are usually things such as an outdated BIOS, drive overlay, bad hardware (paticularly fun when the hardware went bad just after installing XP).

Most issues with crashing on Windows XP are caused by bugs in 3rd party software. Frequently re-installing the software is all it takes to iron those errors out.

This is probably going to sound a lot like ego stroking but after hearing horror stories from customers about phone support from other companies, I have to agree with the parent that MS is running a tight ship when it comes to tech support.
