I too was wondering about the security issues as well... I know where I work, WiFi is strictly prohibited (sensitive data and whatnot) even though I have a secure wireless network in my house. Now, I couldn't see my hick neighbors trying to hack my network, but obiously the situation would be a little different in Iraq and Afganistan. I don't think it would be feasible to censor outgoing transmissions, so I think it would be up to the users not to broadcast any sensitive information.
At any rate, now I can get my one share framed! I like to keep all my favorite tech company's stock certificates on my computer lab wall.:)
Sweeeet!! You can buy it at an even more inflated price! At that rate, the stock would have to increase 45% before you would break even.... but you do get a nice frame;)
I found it funny that one of the offers listed on freeipods.com is for a $0.99 trial on RealRhapsody.
I'm wondering if Real knows this, or if they'll just take it anyway they can get it. You'd think that they would want to steer people clear of the iPod (especially a free one!) with their "Freedom of Choice" marketing and all that...
I wonder how one of these bots would fare against a human in terms of dexterity? It would be interesting, though, one whack from the bot and his human opponent would be done with.
Or.....
It would be even more interesting to see how these bots would do in a full scale game of CS!!
But anyone who picks a PC based solution is someone with too much time on their hands, and needs to examine their lifestyle, perhaps.
I agree that TV based solutions are not for everyone, but some people enjoy building their own PC based PVR (like me). If you are looking for the end result without the hassle, then building or (buying for that matter) your own TiVo is not something I would recommend. After about a month of tinkering and messing with my Myth TV based box I've finally got a stable system that has ALL and MORE of the functionality of a TiVo and I am very happy with the end result.
If $6 a month is even an issue to you, again, take a magnifying lens to your life.
$6 a month is an issue for some people who may have been laid off and currently unemployed in this great economy of ours. Why don't you step off your high horse and "take a magnifying lens to your life."?
Actually I have... Verizon posted someone elses payment to my account... I got my bill and it said that I had a big credit instead of owing them. I wasn't about to call and complain about it. They ended up realizing and my bill the next month was 2x what it normally is... oh well.
Has anyone found a way to attach an IR device to their PC to allow it to change channels? A TV card on a PC can change channels, but only when you plug the coax straight in, sans cable box (thus not allowing pay channels to be recorded). I believe the Tivo comes with something that changes your cable box channels for you, but I could be wrong.
Without patents, what's to stop a large corporation from producing your idea for a product cheaply and putting you out of business? I think if you come up with a good idea, you are entitled to some sort of protection so that you are able to make some money on your idea. Though I do agree that there needs to be some regulation on what is patentable and what is not. Some of these crackheads saying that they invented an idea that is so broad is just ridiculous.
I had a Jukebox MM 20GB and was very impressed with it until the battery cover kept popping off, the screen started flashing intermittently and the unit melted on itself (really). I tried to get some help from customer support, but they said I would have to send it to them for repairs that start at $60 not including parts and labor. This was obviously a result of poor QA or a poorly designed product. Considering all of the problems it had I figured that I could probably get another MP3 player, but not anything from Archos.
...Valve tries very hard to support as far back with system as we humanly can, and in this case we're going back to a Pentium II 800 with 128 of RAM, but as get up to a Pentium 4 class you'll see better water and better effects. For folks who want the ultimate experience, they'll want the latest ATI card, and the fastest processor available from AMD or Intel.
The game engine is scalable. In other words, the better your computer/graphics card the better looking HL2 will be as the game engine will up the detail, textures, polycount, etc. I think it's a pretty neat concept and can't wait to see how it works out. I will be very irritated if my buddy's P2 looks as good as my XP 2800+;)
yes I know my post is filled with realy bad spelling errors but i've been up all nite and too lazy to load up dictionary.com to look up words;)
Or the ergo keyboard really isn't working out as well as you think;)
Why doesn't the RIAA work out a plan to save their money sueing everyone and cut their bottom line to make the music cheaper?
If I could get music for a reasonable price online ($.99 is a bit pricey for a single song) then I wouldn't even bother wasting my time searching for a decent illegal copy. I understand there are certain costs that go into the production of a CD (recording time, artist royalties, stamping CD's, packaging, shipping, warehouse, etc), but by using the internet as a distribution channel you can cut a lot of the costs out.
I think the music industry needs to find a solution that will make them look better like they are at least thinking about the consumers' interests. Instead they look like jerks going around suing college kids for their life savings. It's no wonder so many people have this "I'm gonna stick it to the man!" attitude about downloading illegal music.
I don't know about anyone else, but I think if the airlines gave the passengers free reign on cell phone use then air rage incidents would go through the roof... As if sitting in the middle seat next to a fat guy wasn't enough, imagine him on a cell phone "bla bla bla"ing the entire flight. I think that would be enough to make me go postal.

What was the question again?Leadtek PCI TV/FM Tuner Card, Model "WinFast TV2000 XP" -RETAIL $32.00 (x5 $160.00)
Just curious, but....
Where are you going to put all of those PCI cards?

but what is everyone backing up that they would need a RAID array? Is this just a nerd thing? I don't get it....
