    It is kinda sad, acutally. I find that Windows 2000 Server is pretty stable when used with good hardware, but it is indeed hard to test the endurance of the Windows 2000 servers because most critical patches do require a reboot. MS did reduce the amount of reboots with 2003 Server but did not eliminate them.

    Only time that you'll need to reboot on GNU/Linux OS for the kernel updates, and I'm pretty sure it's the same way for UNIXes, and *BSDs.

    I use a SUS server for my organization as well. I set my domain policy to have the workstations and servers check the SUS server once a week so it will give me some time to test out and get feedbacks on patches. If there is a chance of imminent attack, I can alway patch them manually.

    I guess you didn't hear about the patch for XP that disabled Internet access for hundreds of thousands of users. And while I had good luck with service packs, many others did not.

    BTW, you may want to change your sig because at first, I thought that it was part of the message. Most mods won't know the differents and will mod you flamebait.

    Who says he doesn't? You honestly think that a college student without any money pays much of, if any, tax? My guess is that he's going to a tax payer funded college and maybe even getting financial aid on top of that. I'm making assumions about him but he made assumions about me so it's fair game.

    An Iranian family who fled Iran with only four suitcases. A Vietnamese who came over on a boat. A 35 year old Korean that came over here with his first job being a janitor. What do all of them have in common? They didn't speak a word of English when they came to US but they are all millionaires now. I know all of them personally and they got to where they are now due to work hard, not by sitting on their asses and bitching on Slashdot all day. It's really pathetic when disadvantaged immigrants and achieve the "American Dream" while many of you only sit around chanting "Oh poor me".

    If you think that you can do better in France, why not go there instead of just talking about it? Although I doubt that you'll do any better there since their unemployment rate is higher.

    I guess you haven't read their internal E-mails. MS sure knew they were doing something wrong when it "lost" a bunch of E-mails.

    I have nothing against natural monopolies but my gripe is that laws like this attempts to create artificial monoplies. For example, I wouldn't mind if MS gains monoply due merits of its products, but I do mind if MS does it by threatning the OEMs or breaking the standards just for the sake of gaining monoply.

    I think that the problem is that US is becoming less capitalistic. Capitalism is about about competition and this does nothing to promote it. It's sad to see that US is moving away from capitalism whereas China is starting to embrace it.

    First of all, Windows 2000/XP is set to automatically restart after a BSOD after the memory dump. On most modern systems, the dump happens quick enough that the user won't even see the BSOD unless the settings where changed to disable auto-restart.

    Besides, it's take to take someone with a sig with a link to "Linux Security Flaw" site that lists NetBSD vulnerabilities.

    Firewall's not a substitute for regular patching and spam filters can filter out legit E-mails. Not to mention the increased cost from the mentioned services, which will be passed down to the consumers.
