You're forced to DOWNLOAD it through iTunes. Nothing is forcing you to USE it through iTunes. The files are sitting there on the hard drive plain as day. Now that they have no DRM on them you can do what ever you want.
Then palm should have written their own Sync Program. I don't think Apple would have had a problem if they used the iTunes library XML files or just the iTunes media files themselves. What Palm is doing is lying to iTunes to get the Pre synced as an iPod.
Apple did all the engineering, R&D, and human interface work for iTunes. (Ok, other than what they bought in the beginning). Now Pre is trying to piggy back on this.

Look for stuff photographers use for geotagging. Sony makes a good one (expensive). Some you can set to do every second, minute, hour, everytime object moves X distance.
Personally I would have gone with something from deal extreme, a GPSSMS bridge. It costs the same as the iPhone, but without the contract. You could have bought simple card from Walmart.
Not to mention it would have been designed for this and probably last a bit longer. Put in eBay after you're done and recoup some of the costs.
What does a iPhone cost without the data plan? (Say the phone broke and you need a new one, not to mention you just signed up for 2 years)

We just have these stupid laws because you COULD take that waste and turn it into a bomb. So rather than let someone potentially make a bomb, we decide to just take the highly radioactive stuff and bury it.
If the laws were changed to take all that 'waste', reprocess it and shove it through the whole process again, and repeat until it's dead we could probably end up with 'waste' with half life in the decades instead of centuries.

1) I use IMAP Spam Begone to check my google inbox and mark stuff as spam/not spam. 2) I use DMZ's remote SA-Learn to learn spam from my google spam folder (after I check it for false positives) and I use it to learn ham of stuff that IT marked wrong.
Result, I haven't had any spam make it through since I started using it.
(Both scripts do require editing isbg.py hasn't been updated in 5 years, so to work with newer python I fixed some things and sa-learn.pl needed to be edited to work with GMAil).

I'll stick to my Diesel Jetta which can run on Diesel, Biodiesel created from waste oil, crushed soybeans, algae, liquefied natural gas (GTL), or liquefied coal gas (GTL), any one of a number of renewable resources. If I stretch it I can get 800 to a TANK and still refill in 5-10 minutes.
