    An empty disk allready has tracks on it which are followed by the laser when writing. Those track are different for different media, so you cannot write a cd-r format to a dvd-r.

    Often spam doesn't have a valid from: address, however, there is always a url in it where you can buy their stuff. So now you know the email addresses of the business who hired the spammer to spam you. Just send some (much) bogus emails back. If everyone who hates spam does that they will have thousands of bogus emails for every serious reaction. I don't think they will hire a spammer again.

    As most of us could use more memory, better leave the floppy drive in the computer! You can make a swap partition or swap file on it!!! Think about 1.44 megs extra virtual memory!!!!!!

    We need to focus on better ways of identifying and solving technical problems and developing stronger critical thinking skills.
    Maybe the people have enough critical thinking skills.
    But when i think something is going wrong i dont tell. If i tell what the problem is people will say i think i know it better then the others and treat me as an impolite person. The people will eventually discover the problem themselves and then it will be solved.

    I think the microwave energy goes throug the air without much heating. When it hits the rocket it is bundled and at the focal point of the radiation the field strenght is so high the air at that point ionizes and the energy of the microwave is dissipated there as heat. The expansion of the heated air propulses the rocket.

    At the moment the pentium 4 at 3.06 is the most power hungry pc processor at 82 watt. So future processors will consumate 320 watts? Imagine an office with 10 of those computers. I think it is time for processors with a better ratio of processing power / electric power. And more efficient optimized software that doesn't waste so much clock cycles.

    Most manufacturers of drives have free software to test the drive. It can:
    test the drive and indicate when it is defect
    remap bad sectors so the drive seems to have no bad sectors
    write all the sectors of the drive with zero's
    tell you the SMART status
    for example:

    IBM has DFT, (drive fitness test)
    I am sorry to say this software uses windows to make a bootable dos disk.

    The americans don't have another manned spaceship or rocket in service at the moment. A successor of the shuttle will take many years to design, test and build. So they will improve the safety of the shuttle and go on with it. Until a third accident proves the unsafety of the shuttle.

    Most renewable enery sources don't work continuously. Solar energy isn't much use during the night or a cloudy day. The wind doesn't blow continuously. There will be a need for as much conventional powerplants as without renewable energy for days with little sunshine and wind.

    Some technical people are in fact autistic. Those people can be very intelligent and computer literate. However, they will be bullied because they don't understand the 'political games' and don't know how to stop the bullying. You can google for 'asperger syndrome'. If you are autistic, i hope i didn't tell you something you didn't want to know.

    Recently i bought a 'telescope' for 40 euro's. It has three eyepieces, a barlow lense, an erecting eyepiece and a prism. The aperture is 60mm and the box says 525x magnification. However, even at the smallest magnification (35x) the picture isn't very sharp. The picture gets sharper when i put a lens cap with a hole on the front lens. So the oculars for more magnification are useless.
    However, allready owning an oscilloscope and a microscope, now i am a supernerd!

    In theory 1 electron could enough to store one bit. However, i think 1 cosmic particle would be enough to set or reset the bit by adding or removing an electron, or the electron might simply be lost. Would this 1 electron memory be reliable?
