Very easy. If there's no drugs, there's no way people can use them and get behind the wheel of a car.

Sure! And if there are no guns, no one will be shot and killed. And if there are no elections, we can't vote for the wrong person. And if we aren't allowed freedom of choice, then we can't make the wrong decisions.

As a webdeveloper, I can surely say that IE (not even the latest, which isn't very recent), isn't fully CSS1 compliant, which means that a well formed CSS might break in explorer.

I said it looked fine in IE, what are you trying to argue?

Now, you go to school, and learn a bit more instead of trying to act smart.

What the hell? You attempt to argue with me and then insult me because I answered a question that you could have very easily gone and checked out for yourself? Grow up.

How about a new look altogether?

I had a look at the new site, and while it does fix many problems and should certainly be used to replace the existing setup, why not go a little farther and retool the look of the site as well?

The look of slashdot has barely changed since the late 90's, and while the look certainly brings part of it's character, it's beginning to look dated. Perhaps it can be redesigned with a more effecient and cohesive interface while still retaining some of it's previous character?

Or is it just a pipe-dream...

Ah, well, then I stand corrected. However, my point was that I think it's a bad idea for a country to attempt to write laws governing a worldwide network.

After all, these U.S.-based spammers can still relay from anywhere, and they aren't the easiest to trace.

However, perhaps a do-not-spam list is a good thing in that possibly ISP's will be held accountable for the actions of their subscribers, and will thus work more dilligently to watch their networks.(and not sell bandwidth to spammers, you hear me, verio?)

No, It's a _horrible_ idea. Two things.

(1.) U.S. Laws only reach as far as U.S. borders. Where does 95% of spam come from?

(2.) What is to stop spammers(who have previously shown themselves to be willing to break the law and root people's servers to use as relays) from using this Do-not-spam list as a database to spam? I mean, think about it, a nice, large index of completely valid email addresses? This is spammer gold people!

Mainly, the finder. It's an unweildy, awkward interface that makes managing files on your drive an absolute chore, it has a completely useless properties menu that allows almost zero customization, and it doesn't remember choices in later instances(i.e., it refuses to STAY in a single view mode).

While the article is largely FUD, it shouldn't be completely dismissed, because some of it is accurate.

    No. Absolutely not.

I use free software because it is often developed and a more agressive pace, and the features I want are more likely to be implemented. Free software also cuts out the middleman a lot of the time as far as getting help with some software. Numerous times I have had a problems compiling x program and emailed the developer and gotten the help I needed to get it working, not to mention clued the developer into the fact that there is an issue getting their software to work on insert my platform here.

Compare, for example, the MSN Messenger, and Gaim. Gaim has more features, has an extensible architecture so that even non-geniuses can write plugins, and no advertisements.

Free software is better because it does what paid developers can't.
