What users are failing to realize is that you have NO RIGHTS on the Internet. If companies want to block all user agents from their sites except for MSIE 6.x on Windows XP, there isn't a thing you can do about it.
There are lots of things I can do about it.
First and foremost, I'd stop visiting said sites. It doesn't bother me in the least to vote with my wallet.
Second, I can take guerilla tactics of my own. It's not hard to fake a u/a, though I doubt I'd go to the trouble.
When the shoe is on the other foot, does it still fit?
Yeah clubby, I have symmetrical feet:-)
I stand by my previous statement, companies have no right's on the Internet, they do not DESERVE to make money, money is to be earned through satisfying your customers and providing a valuable service. Something most tech companies these days have forgotten.

The last time that this was brought up on slashdot, most of the arrogant jerks tried to point out that you can "simply adjust the font size in the control panel". This doesn't work for anyone who has tried it.
Well, here I am on a 19" display, running at 1600x1200, using high-dpi fonts, and I can't help but say you are incorrect. Perhaps you have changed the wrong setting, or you have more dire font problems on that machine, but trust me, high-dpi fonts DO work(and they look tons better, especially at high resolutions).
I've been playing around with the firmware on my (non-linux) Linksys BEFW11S4 Acess point(the WAP/router one), but I've run into an issue where, apparently there is a checksum on the firmware image files, and it cannot thus be changed without also changing the checksum to match your changes.
Unfortunatly, I'm not leet hax0r, so I have no idea how to find the checksum in a hex editor, anyone have an idea where it would be?(yeah I've checked the first and last bits of the file.)
the best part will be reminiscing about how terrible computers were "back in the day."
I'm not so sure. Computers these days can do things like play mp3s and movies, etc(browse porn), these sort of activities I'm sure we'll be doing 10 years from now, computers will still be useful a decade in the future. Of course, this is provided that all the cheap junk that is made now will still WORK 10 years from now...
Why couldn't we just create a new html tag, something like , then blog coders could simply set the comments sections of their sites up with the tag.
Then, google would still spider the page, but any spam would fail to be indexed.
Of course, blogs aren't the only application for such a thing, any time you take user input to be posted online you could surround it with a tag to aleviate any spam possibilities.
As much as everyone here will rant on and on about how this is an intrusion of their rights, how "big brother" is watching them, this is actually a rather good idea.
I'm not saying it should be mandated that these be installed in every single vehicle manufactured, but I see no reason why they shouldn't be admitted as evidence in a trial. Perhaps it will make people think twice before speeding like maniacs......*goes to check that his car doesn't have one*
I have to disagree. After registering meep.ws there a couple months back I've vowed to never use GoDaddy again. The advertisements on their site are HORRID, I was really taken aback at the way the ads were in-your-face the entire time I signed up for the domain.
Why does a legitimate business who is ALREADY getting my money need to also assault me with a barrage of advertising?

do users genuinely not care as long as the game is fun?
Exactly.
I could care less whether I'm playing as the good guy or the bad guy in a game, so long as it is a fun game. After all, that is the point of a game, to be fun.
But even more important than the good/bad side of a game is CHOICE. Give the player the option to be a good guy, or to be a bad guy. Let them decide how they want to play the game.
Grand Theft Auto is a great example of the power that choice gives players. I play vice city a lot, but I don't play the missions, and I don't run around killing people. I install custom cars and race them around the city, doing jumps, tricks, et al. Why? Because Rockstar designed such a great engine such that it is flexible enough to allow the end user to do almost anything. I only wish more game developers would follow suit.
As far as audio out goes, you can splice the audio out cable that runs out the back of the soundcard to whatever you are using to amplify the setup, it outputs a standard line-level signal, so it's perfectly usable, and will save you from having an unsightly cable running out the front from the headphone jack.
You can get small, fanless power supplies that will give you 12v, you might want to check around hobby supply places, if you get lucky you might find one for pc components with a molex connector, but chances are your most likely find will be a non-pc power supply, which you can use just fine, you'll just need to make sure the voltage and current levels are the what the cd-rom expects, and probably splice an old molex connector to it to connect to the cd-rom properly.

How about persuing a REAL business model instead?
Doesn't Ask Jeeves use actual people to categorize their database?
Oh yeah! They have a bunch of 4'5" chinese dudes in their basement categorizing search results by hand.
And who says the chinese are lazy!

Why, a simple "yes > /dev/mem" command crashes it, hello, windows called they want their crashes back!
Ok, does someone want to tell me what the point of a CODE TAG is, if you can't show an html tag with it?
Not to reply to my own comment, but what I meant was to have a:
:-)
Tag, slashcode must have stripped it from my comment, oops

Wow, I don't know whether to laugh or go take a shower after reading that :-)

Who in their right mind would even consider ATTEMPTING to run outlook under linux?
So, am I the only one planning on buying one and raping it for parts?
:-)
A P4, 80gig hard drive and some ram all for $300 eh? Not bad
Good job, you just linked us to the story attached to these comments.
Reading the article surrenders....
The government mind-rays will be scrambled by the high-energy power lines.
I'd like to mirror the memos if someone has them up, the main server can't be reached by me.
Lets get a fundraising campaign for these guys going if they do indeed go through with it, they'll need it!
Is it me, or does this seem quite racist? I kind of sarcastic jab at another culture?
It's just you.

I have just tried gaim. Disconnects immediately with the error, 'Protocol not supported'.
Strange, I'm currently logged into msn using gaim v.0.96 on Windows...
Includes authentic "Blowing in cartridge action", and realistic "oh please good work this time" features.
Sounds great!
overclocked duron.
No, THAT would be the computer equivalent of a 4-cylinder honda civic with racing stripes.
