that vw bug idea is the best one i have heard in here. shite. actually the idea of the box is great too... if the dimm slots are near the processor you could even ground the box right to the processor heat sink's EMI pads. or you could make the box out of copper mesh, or even chicken wire. of course this would only benefit you if you were running the mem at 150 MHz or above...
that's good. now say it again with me: BOYCOTT etoys.com (with an s) they are not getting any of my hard earned $$. this kind of shite gives me the chills.
NO. it was arranged such that we can type QWERTY really fast while discussing this same old crap over and over... sheesh QWERTY is a bit slower inherantly but they are ubiquitous... switch to DVORAK if you want... see if i care!
isn't that sort of cheating? the part in the end about 'whiping the other's brain" i wonder if it was EMP? couldn't find anything about it at that cs dept page....
oh well i forgot there is actually a 32 bit digital unix and a 64 bit one... they have about the same functionality...
but in response to cringley's thinking compaq will drop it in favor of linux... that is a LLLLooooong shot! there is no way they will drop there installed user base like that... big mistake.
well Compaq only has one unix so they must be talking about Digital Unix. and as to whether or not it "runs better" is kind of speculatory... it depends on what you mean by better... HW support? linux speed? dec speed on HW? dec in my experience digital unix wins out here.. 'cept for cost and friendly user base;-) those two may be more important to use hobbiests but definately not to a computer professional... barely 2 cents worth
okay this has been an unwritten standard for years. storage companies want to make their crap seem like it holds more right? so we/they use MB which is 10^6 bytes rather than MBytes or MegaBytes which is 2^20 or 1024*1024 bytes... same thing goes with KB and KBytes... the former being pronounced kay-bees this is also the norm in announcing throughput rates, at least in storage... this is the first question people ask during computer architecture and other comp eng. tests: "how many bytes in a KiloByte?" and usually the prof didn't even think about it. so they say "just tell us your assumptions." Usually they had used 10^3 bytes in a KiloByte and their numbers come out round that way... even though it is technically incorrect...depending on if you spell it "KB" or "Kbyte"
yeah yeah yeah yeah. that would be good for a 3d window env. but it wouldn't really have to be 3d. see you could just render it with a known light source using the 3d adapter in real time like you said. it would just add another facet to the configurability. so minimize could be like 1/4 minimize where the window would warp into the background about 400 (virtual) pixels in the Z direction (toward the back of the monitor) and it would be rendered as such. then you could do stuff like make the light source move according to the time of day like the sun does so the 3d crap would actually look real... maybe some clouds to cast shadows... it might be useful. where is my tan.?? oh I'm not outside!!! hehe
some people are going to say thus and reason that this is why they should not be brought back to life. But with that reasoning then I tend to say hey then there must be a reason we have the ability to bring them back...

you are nuts if you think this is worse than what the cosmetic testing animals go through. I have no idea what is required to imbed a biodegradable polymer matrix in a mouse and grow human like tissue in it... but what the animals in cosmetic testing labs go through is not to be believed. think about all those chemicals that say on the label that they will cause blindness or death if they come in contact with your eyes or soft tissue. how do you think they figured that out? not by human testing (unless you are talking about gov't testing) ever seen a rabbit whose eye lids have been pinned wide open so a lab tech or computer can squirt super concentrated hair dye or eye makup solutions directly onto the animal's eye balls, only to be left there festering until the animal goes blind dies? ever seen what a chicken or veal farm looks like? 4 hens to a 4 cubic foot cage, cages stacked hundreds high. hens all shitting on each other and pecking each others eyes out because they have goon totally insane, the skin on their feet grown around the chicken wire floor on their cages? and that is just so you can eat them or their eggs. it is enough to make the biggest frat boy go vegetarian! sorry for the little off topic rant... who's superior?
so I guess I should read the articles first. I guess we can't grow stuff yet outside of a real living thing to supply nutrients... ah the life of a research mouse... that is the life for me.
hmmmm... I was just thinking... those of us who only care about the suffering of animals and don't care about health particularly... a cow finger sandwich sounds pretty good. no cows harmed (or humans) wonder what that sandwich would cost? hehe
okay this may be a dumb question but was that picture of anakin with Vader's shadow ever supposed to be in the movie or did a fan make that picture? I don't remember. What I can't decide about this movie is if George assumed that everyone knew the outcome (from ep 4-6) or if he wanted it to be stand alone. Palpatine should have been a secret had he wanted it to be stand alone. We shouldn't have known that the senator was also that bad guy in the cloak who was the master to Darth Maul. Then that little "subtle" camera shot of Palpatine close to the end would have been soooo cool. IMHO he should have made ep 1 it's own movie. I think he failed at that.
"Thank the maker, this oil bath is going to feel so good!" that is C3PO in A New Hope. Notice that now "the maker" is Anakin (Darth Vader) who is also the father of who he was actually talking to; Luke. (perhaps he was just talking in general to hear his voice as he like to do) there was lots of stuff in this movie that gets no mention in the later (earlier made) movies. Mito-chloridians for one. I hope as well as others have expressed that they get explained away in the 2nd episode... also all the ships in this movie seemed much more advanced than the next generational ships in Ep. 4. maybe it's because it is a revolutionary time and all the ships have to be salvaged, no one has any money or time for developement, etc.... I could go on, but I digress...
I noticed that as well. Just that very day my friends and I were discussing the jedi "fade away" syndrome. Obi Wan had his head chopped off in A New Hope thus died immediately so he faded away. Yoda had his number up and died when it was his time but also immediately so he also faded away. You'll notice when Darth Vader/Anakin is dying he is doing so slowly, we never see him fade away because we never really see him die. In Phantom Menace Qui-Gon Jinn gets saber'd through the torso and doesn't die right away. It seemed like lucas cut away right before Qui-Gon actually died. Thus we don't see him fade away. Hell, this is just an excuse I am making for bastardly George and one of his huge glaring mistakes in EP 1. He should have had him fade out after he died!!!!!!!!!!!! the other major mistakes being the devine conception of anakin (Jesus II anyone?) and the whole mito-force thingies (jedi particles in all cells) George is really in "Deep Doo-Doo Now!" I have to say that I liked it much more than most other people on this forum. I liked Jar Jar, but did get tired of poopy jokes and how he ALWAYS got lucky in that battle scene even though he is clumsy as a mule (who now has Qui-Gon Jinn's mustache on his ass; anyone see Leno with Liam Neeson?)

KDE Gets a Mascot

I agree that it does look too much like Mozilla. I don't like KDE too much either but I wouldn't really compare it to what someone above said should have a mascot of a blindfolded turtle (is slow and keeps crashing into things ). It's cute, needs a bigger tummy, some more lighting, and I guess a redesign from the top. go with another mascot. I think we all want a bigger tummy on it so it will be more like Tux. -et
anyone notice the last little tidbit they squeezed into the press release? "MovieFone has announced that it will merge with America Online subject to shareholder approval." interesting. I bet the line to get the actual tickets at the theatre after ordering them will be huge. I did the moviefone thang for special edition ep 5 and I went to a machine that took my credit card as ID and printed out the tix. no line. That was in NYC. let's hope it's the same for this one. Of course the line to get seats was huge. good thing we were there an hour and a half early. (we were still about 25 peeps back)
the only reason I see it struggling, one of the reasons I haven't contributed much, is that there is no product to make better. That is one of the reasons all the other open source projects have worked so well. eg: linux, fetchmail, etc. I'm sure this has been said before but hopefully this will change with the much more functional milestone builds....
Man... the itsy rocks! I want to strap a notebook type hard drive to the bottom of that, or maybe a ram drive (that would be better) and have the worlds best rio/palm pilot/wearable/translator/AI pet!!!! why won't they give me a job!?;-) sigh....
you JOCK!
oh wait. i meant:
you NERD!
wait... which was was it again.
