Now lets say someone was standing their and recorded what I said so they could share it with someone later, again, not stealing. There never was more then 1 paper in my possession.
Again...Wake up, its time to move on and realize that information is going to move between people freely, its the RIGHT thing to do.

If a band, regardless of popular, has made music that they like and have copied, they owe the band a good faith effort to pay for the music. What's so hard about that?
Because I made the copy and shared it. Thats good advertising. The right thing to do would be to compensate me for my time and effort. I think 1% of all future ticket sales is enough. I shouldn't have to come after the band for the money, they should do the right thing and send me the cut. Anything else is just dishonest.

I am really surprised by the requirements too. I have a laptop, about 5 years old, P3 1st gen Nvidia Go, and I have no problem running GLX and Beryl with KDE. So I have all the eye candy of vista (more actually, and more configurable) with more features and functions on the desktop and I am running on 5 year old hardware, why cant vista? Something just isn't right......
This is really telling. The pro Microsoft crowd gets so caught up in MS hype that they actually believe that MS products are new, exciting, and creative. Seriously, who is technology savy and thinks ClearType is innovative? I remember using antialiasing fonts LONG before MS put a word to it.
Whats worry some is that this group accepts the crap that MS gives them and sticks with it, because they dont know any better. I talk to people all day that are surprised that there are options. For you MS heads out there its important for you to know whats going on around you so you can put the company you are paying money to deliver.
I would rather face any threat of lawsuit now, rather then get "amnesty". This is a horrible idea. Do not give them any sort of validation to the notion that intellectual ideas are patentable. If I can solve a problem, using a unique algorithym, then they cant claim its something that I can not do.

My point was that taking a lossy format and converting it into mp3 with make that mp3 bad. Lossy --> lossy is MUCH worse then CD --> MP3.
However I can, and have proven to others, that I can tell when I hear a WMV VS a MP3.
Telling the difference between a high bitrate MP3 and source is much harder, but MP3's usually sound "harsher" and somewhat empty compared to the source.

The mountain is covered in a nasty smoggy haze when it isnt in fog or clouds, getting anywhere is a pain in the ass due to traffic and too m,any people, the Sound is a pit of nastyness thanks to all the fricken houses chemo runoff, nitrates, and oils sheen from the roads, the freindly people have been replaced with the Californication crowd, and to top it off everything is expensive.
As I have pondered doing this, I had concerns about the humidity level of the wood going up and down as the case got hot, then cold, then hot again. I wondered if this would eventually crack or split the wood. What is the longevity? Is his choice of woods helpful in this regard? My chioce would have been ceder, what a great smelling computer, but it is very prone to splitting, and covering that wood on both sides with laquer would be pointless if you wanted to enjoy the smell. Maybe my fears were unfounded.....
Frankly, I too am dissapointed with notebook manufacturers. Which of course has nothing to do with Linux. Making a crappy bios and not implementing standards is really not the OS's fault. This has nothing to do with the OS other then the hardware is inferior and windows works well on it because 1: they has the spec and implemented around it, and 2: windows is pretty sloppy with how it deals with bios functions. This is a flaw, as you wouldnt want your OS to behave in unexpected ways, and a standard should be maintained.
I would counter with: I plugged a USB device into a windows XP system today. After the drives attached the next letter would be G. I have several drive letters mapped to shares, but windows doesnt pay attention to the fact that I am using G so it assigns G to the USB device, making it invisible and unusable. You have to be an admin, right click my computer, select manage, select the usb device, and change the letter to an available one. Not an easy task for a normal user, and not even available if you are not an admin.
Windows has wizards and dialogs that act inconsistantly, are hidden, or require pure knowledge without any sort of cohesiveness or logic.
Quick rundown of my peaves: defrag, what the hell: linux doesnt do that, why does windows need it? Where are all my options for getting work done such as KDE's KIO slaves? Why does windows insist on making windows that must be responded to in order to go on? How come there isnt a system wide implementation of a spell checker so I can just use it with any program I want? In linux all files are just strings that be manipulated in hundreds of ways. I could go on and on.

The only thing I can think of thats going for windows is that it has drivers to more hardware, and even that is really a negative against windows due to the poor testing and security flaws inherent in crappy drivers.

Personally, I don't listen to music unless the licesnse is creative commons or license free. This way I am helping the bands by keeping up with thier website, tour dates, etc. These bands stop places like AllofMP3.com because they are distributing the info themselves, which is what you are talking about.
Your comment was convoluted, but I agree with you. CD's and recorded music are Ad's. When the performers go out and work by playing live they get that cash, just like anyone else doing a job.

Money. The Point is MONEY. There are some useful features with Google Earth for businesses. As another poster said, there is more then one version. The pay versions are getting their free advertising through this version. There are FAR better tools for most GIS work, but the smoothness of the display, the quick address location finding, and the fact that the boss has seen it make it a shoe in. Let me reiterate - the fact the BOSS and Upper Management have seen Google maps and now Google earth, they WILL want it over any functioning tool. Google will come to your business and show you just why you should buy it, and even offer to use your data to populate it if need be.

Purchasing the advertising medium (CD or download) is of course acceptable to those who want to because they are recieving the service of distribution.
Yes the musicians should play to make money, upsale items as best they can, and provide distribution where possible.
As it is now, they work a couple of months and then make money from that far into the future. Wouldn't we all like that?
Finally, you do realize that because of the signing contracts more artists wont see money except for what they perform for anyways?
