    I think that "true" gamers should be worried about this move.
    A real game company will try to have its own studios pumping out great games for their consumers.
    Microsoft is in to get into your bedroom as a multi-function entertainment machine (to push their media and software empire), they're not in to make great games.

    It makes business sense to leverage partnerships to improve your weak spots because ultimately any company is in for the money, but I think that if Microsoft gets the 3rd party support to be an "Entertainment" powerhouse, it won't be long until you will have to accept an EULA by pushing the action button.

    I completely agree with your post. I have an example, Capcom recently hired a company to do the Megaman compilation on GC, sadly the company was "smart" enough to configure the B button for jump and the A button for fire - WITHOUT- an option to change the configuration. Sadly, this is a recipe for disaster. The games seem to honor the original versions, but sadly, the experience is not the same because if the controller configuration. I'd like to know how is the configuration on the PS2 (maybe the layout is correct) and therefore we could assume that the developer never even paid attention to the layout of the controller.

    Well, let me spoil Nintendo's hopes to make more money on extra GBAs. I know that the "looks" of devices have hurt sales in the past (E.g. the toy-look of the GC), however, any reasonable gamer knows that:
    Success == Good Games == High User Base = Developer Support = More Variety (*).

    Think about this:
    * N64-like capabilites in a small form factor
    * 4 face buttons
    * Bluetooth
    * Backwards compatibility (games are available NOW!)
    * MSRP of $150 ($100 less than PSP) (everyone knows that the target pricepoint is $99-$75 for handhelds - clever manufacturing, economies of scale and semiconductor improvements will make this possible in a couple of years)
    * Innovative interface

    This is a pretty good deal to me even if it doesn't look cool or hip. The only big if is the choice of storage (Maybe it's N64 all over again...BUT... again... portable optical media on a handeld is a big gamble too... big risks == big payoff)

    I'd love the PSP to be good competition to the DS/GBA, bc it benefits all gamers!
    But let's just make better judgement calls before announcing that some product is going to get crushed.

    On the business side...
    At 95% Nintendo's market share on the handheld market can only go down, but, it's time to make sound decisions.
    * Minimize loss on main console
    (Sony is coming in and it's going to be willing to take a loss to gain market share agressively)
    * Focus on quality games
    * Keep 3rd parties happy
    * Clever marketing

    Oh well... this is going to be an interesting week... happy speculation....

    The gaming device can keep track of the games that have been played, and within a pre-set threshold/manually it could out and try to find devices that may have compatible games.

    If a device is found, you can invite the person to a game. (of course, you can keep yourself "open" or "closed" to invitations).
