not only do I agree but I am sure you could find for cheap some old eMac's or flat screen iMac G4's floating around out there taht would be perfect for the elderly users. I have had a number of clients who have given their older Mac's to their parents who want just what you have mentioned: simple web browsing and email. The only caveat I have found it that the Mac should be 10.3.9 or 10.4.x for ideal web browsing. But, again, this will be a lot cheaper both in time and financially in the long run. In fact, this is what I will be doing with my parents home internet access, as I am tired of being a free IT support person who is out there fixing their Windoze machines that have caught some sort of virus, or spyware.
ok, so they are gonna interact with kids... sony will use it for marketing (big: "really?? no way!")... whatever, who really cares in the long run? except one thing, will they incorporate the three laws?? (ok, i scanned the feed-back, didn't see anything refering to the three laws. so don't bitch slap me if i am repeating someone else)
well... I do work for a couple of tattoo artist's, in exchange for tattoo time.. one hour of my time = one hour of tattoo time, so far i have spent very little on my tattoo's
16hrs so far $120CDN is the usual cost or $1920 in time.. my cost: $560
not too bad...
one note, it is the guys who are windows users who owe me more time, the mac guys i have ot pay for the time...;)

this phone does not work on the north american GSM system, as most people stated already, just look on ebay or craigslist for something simple.
