The key difference is this notifies you of new mail.
Having a tab refresh doesn't notify you of new mail... you still have to click in there - something that's been bugging me all day at work with checking squirrelmail on my home server.
Aren't people using retinas for developing biometric identification? I wonder what the consequences of this would be...DoS a system with a bunch of people with the same retinal scans?
I know with the iris they can measure the amount it constantly expands and contracts by to verify it's not a contact lens or similar. I presume though when they reach the stage of replacing the whole eye they'd be able to even fake that.
I couldn't agree more with parent post.
As for grandparent... no, whilst I'm a student, 2 hours of my life a week isn't worth 2 pounds a week! That's about a quarter of my food budget to pay for the privledge of having less suitable time to check email during shitty TV programs?
Yet if I don't buy a TV licence and have a TV, the chances are I'll get fined even if I don't receive anything. I can't choose to just get BBC1 and C4 say and pay half. Or even just watch cable - there's no choice and that's what people hate. The cost just goes up each year whilst my income goes down with the programming quality.
At least I graduate next year... think I'll disappear abroad and leave my 16 000 pound student loan behind.
Yeah thanks... bit frustrating getting modded troll for something like that. Still... I made an ugly workaround:
I copied the source from linux-2.6.7-rc2's drivers/input/mouse to the same directory in 2.6.8 - and my mouse works again!
If I get a bit more time during the week I'll perhaps try and narrow it down a bit more, but the fact that I have to rebuild the nvidia graphics driver every time I rebuild the kernel is a bit of a PITA.
Cheers for the help.
I spent fucking ages trying to work that out for someone. Hmmn. I couldn't work out what it was so I just unplugged the PC speaker, then last summer I put it in engine oil for a magazine article I wrote in the UK. After that I chucked it out and can't go back and fix it:(...ah well... the one that got away.
Same issue, Slackware current. Apparently png_sig_cmp is supposed to have replaced some deprecated function according to a google. Beats me... I've got the latest Slack libpng and I compiled from source off the official site too with the same error.
Normally we see crappy AV software picking up fake hits to make it look good... where will MS go with this... false positives to make the AV software look good or cover ups to make the OS look good?
It might be a novel idea and almost certainly redundant... but what about the idea of focusing more resources on prevention rather than cure? It'd be less admin for them, although, they'd be another 'feature' down to further clog up Windoze.
I wouldn't buy from Aria again, they charged me for an order I never requested and never received (a big order)... it took over a year of me sending letters (polite ones) to Aria and my credit card company before the credit card company gave me my money back when I told them I'd had enough and was going to the police.
Any other company you'd hope would realise it was theft and just give you your money back. Any other credit card company and you'd probably not have had to wait so long. NatWest are just useless, but Aria were fully aware of what was going on and just happy to keep my money.
Ok, so add biometric identification to the ID we already have; passports, driving licence, etc. but why on earth are we having this centralisation? Surely everything we've learnt about security technologies says a layered approach is needed?
What happens when someone beats the system? Everyone will trust it completely because nutters like Blunkett say biometric id is unbeatable. What about the human element of the system? If someone exploits this database they can write themselves a few new lives, delete other peoples lives, etc.
It scares me. Ah well, I'll just move abroad with my girlfriend and take our 30 000 of student loan with us.

what's the point in posting now... it'll be ages before we get to 100 000 000 :(

Thanks but neither worked. (Nor did the google suggestion from the other poster).
You can get an instant off switch with a PC by setting it to hard off (oh lord) instead of soft off in the BIOS.
...I prefer a system that runs with enough heat and fans that I don't have to pay heating as well as the electric for my computer.
It doesn't function correctly - you move the mouse around and the cursor furiously flickers around the screen.
Xorg, Slack current.
still isn't working after anything newer that I've tried than 2.6.7-rc2. :(
fallwell.com cache (I'd never heard of him or the site).
Gmail me! cs02rm0@ex.ac.uk
Google cache
THAT'S WHAT IT WAS!

Google for Brutal File Manager.

Just hurry up with Looking Glass.
So why are these exactly wrong...
Half the others are only one digit away and if that's all the spelling mistakes you can find on the internet...
...just a slight conflict of interest here?

Just use kernel.org (it's definately there), it'll take a bit to work down through to the other mirrors I guess.

... like this might be worthwhile for that office!
I'm ... not ... American.
/. must be American?
Why assume that anyone not Canadian reading
I'm British ;) ...well, English.
...I mean, we are talking Canadian dollars aren't we? :p
